well, ive posted stuff about that new peice of land we got permission to hunt on, and ive seen LOTS of deer, but none of the big bucks, and ive been huntin there since nov. 11th, or whenever opening day was, and its been warm and cold, thats NC for you, it mixes up, and ive seen a few bucks chase a few does, but not hardcore. I was huntin a big huge 4-5 acre field, but i saw only does. Then i hung a stand about 1/4 mile away from that field back in some thick hardwoods, where i have a corn pile, and where as some of you saw i got a pic. of that really big 8, and well i was thinking about going back to the big field, and maybe trying to rattle? maybe its too early? ive only got pics of like 6-8 diff. bucks, but i was wondering what some of you would do, knowing my situation? sorry for the long post, Thanks Dalton

Well, while sitting in the deer stand today(only saw 4does) i was thinking about predator encounters on the way in & out to your deer stand, lets hear about those close encounters, and for those NC hunters, any rutting activity? Down here in Chapel hill its gonna get real cold next week, so it should get good hopefully next week, thanks for your time.

well, got permission to hunt a 250 acre peice of land, hadnt been hunted in a while, and got 100 pics of does, opossums, coons, and 5 diff. bucks, in these pics their is 2 different spikes, ones rack is messed up, and two 6's, which one i let walk earlier in the season, and the last is a HUGE 8 pointer, esp. for NC. Thanks for lookin. BIG 8, with a 6 in the back, let him walk earlier. Ugly rack

well down her in NC we are having some pretty bad weather, its like 30mph winds and lots of rain. and yersterday i sat in the stand where i always see deer, but didnt see a single thing, and on the ride out, i saw an absolute brute standing in the middle of the road. but the weather is supposed to clear up thursday and i was wondering if i should just stay in this afternoon, and try tomorrow?

well i got permission to hunt this 250 acre peice of land thats been in my family this past weekend in bear creek, nc. Well im huntin this nice 4-5 acre field with a little clover and i threw corn out. well i busted 2-3 deer when i walked in friday mornin, and had about 6-7 does come from dusk-7 30 or so, and saw a little 6 pointer walk behind me a make a small scrape and he was on his way, just crusin. no big or decent bucks at all. then saturday afternoon i took my dad and we saw 10 does!! hes never shot a deer before and i was in a stand about 10 yards to his left. about 4 30 or so, 4 does ran across the field, i dont know why they were running? but about 5 05 or so, 2 does came out, i could see them and he couldnt, i told him they were out there, then about 5-10 mins later he sees 2 does on the left, and i cant see them but he can, and i didnt know they were there. THEN a big doe and her little one come out, the big one under my dads stand and the little one under mine. about 1-2 mins after they come out, i think the big one may have winded us, then he shoots, really unexpected to me. he shot at the deer on the left. we got down and i asked him why he didnt shoot the one under him, and he said he thought it was a little too small. the shot was about 200 yards or so, with a 270. we are both pretty sure he missed, no blood or anything, i wish he wouldve killed that deer, cause i was sitting near him and everything. oh well, but i still havent seen any good bucks just a lot of does? the rut should be up in a week or so., but just not seeing those good bucks. thanks, Dalton

Re: What did I do when... <pic> yep, just like the others, been there and done that, actually just last year on a nice 8 pt. good luck on getting him the rest of the season

Re: what would you do personally, i would probaly have taken the yote, because we dont have many down here in this part of NC, and i dont have that many big deer, i would really rather take my first yote then a deer anyday. but like captkb44 said, its a matter of opinion. hope you get your buck.

anyone in NC seein/killin anything im around the chapel hill area, i killed a small 5 point(first bow buck) and a good size doe, now im waitin on the big one. also is anyone seein and ruttin? thanks, Dalton

well i got up this mornin to go huntin, and i wake up early enough to get out there about 25 mins before light. and well i just decided to wait til sun up, i just dont like walking in the woods by myself. i tell myself the night before that i can do it, then i always decide to wait til i can see good, then go.

i wanted everyones opinion on if they thought it was too early to put some doe-in-heat out yet? its been around 30's at night here, and around 50's or higher during the day, and i have found some fresh scrapes, but i saw a doe with her 2 fawns the other day, and they say that a doe will leave her fawns if shes gonna come in heat soon. think its too early? thanks, Dalton

i just shot the ugliest deer ever, never seen him before, idk what exactly he was, but i saw he had an antler coming down covering his eye. and i knew he needed to be shot, but i shot him at 6 11, and it was a pretty good shot, but when i went to track him, i saw good blood at first, then none at all, should i go look now, its dark out. or should i wait til the mornin? its gonna be around 35 and higher tonight?

ok so heres the story..i got a cuddeback last year for christmas and hung it up after the season, and got pics of bucks i hadnt seen before when i didnt have a camera, well i used it all summer, over a corn pile. and got pics of some really good bucks. Ive only killed a little 6 pointer and a doe. and i know i have at least 8 more bucks out there, and ive set the camera out 3 different times for 2 days each, and everytime i dont have any pics of the few big deer i had when it was summer. im only huntin on a 40 acre peice of land surronded by houses, and across the road is some standing and cut corn, but thats on game lands for doves, and about 1/2 mile through the woods is another set of game lands where people deer hunt, and its about 60 acres or so. Ive got corn out, but i dont know where the bucks are? i mean theres no better place i can be, besides sitting there, i was thinking maybe the fact that i go back there with the 4wheeler at least twice a week? maybe that has the bucks scared to somewhere else? tell me what you think i should do? hunt on the game lands? thanks, Dalton
