  1. just picked my alphmax up a few days ago and put anouther qad rest on and it shoots great was easy to set up and havent had a problem yet
  2. From the neck or horns only. one if you hang from the back legs and plan on mounting all the blood will rush to the face and when it is mesuared it wont be true. 2 i knwo a guy that hung a buck by his hind legs. that night a fisher got ahold of its face and made a mess of it. needless to say he couldnt get that one mounted.

  11. ya where i checked my bird in the guy was talkin about it. we see one sat moring what would push close to that bird. but he wouldnt come in close enough to shoot
  12. hey nice bird.. i just got back from maine last sat and took my first maine bird. what part of maine are you from. i was in west paris
  13. Well its been a heck of a year for me here in NH and Maine. Started off not beeing able to hunt the opener here in Nh because of having to work on the race car.So i went out monday moring with out roosting a bird. just set up blind in the dark. and just at daylight a jake gobbeled right infront of me about 50 yards. then about 2 min later a tom gobbeled in the same spot. and as it usaly goes they fly down and work there way down the hill to me and in to about 7 yards. i take the shot and there he lay. 18 pounds 9 inch beard and 7/8 hooks. then off to maine to hunt with some good friends that work with Northwoods adventure tv. Friday morning we tryed to double up with a bow(chandra) and a gun(me) but nothing would come in the set up was a lilttle off but the birds where there. she had to go to work so we went to get some food then came back and made 2 set ups on some birds. that were hung up and wont come. then it happened. a bird gobbled and it sounded like a gun shot. and it was close. after a few clucks and purs i see him up on top of the logging road strutting. and for whatever reason he turns and starts working his way down to us. once he gets close enough i let him work the decoys for a few then let loose on him. anouther great bird. 20 pounds and 9 1/2 and 5 1/2 inch beard and 7/8 hooks. and all on video. so far this year i think i have hunted a total of 4 hours and have 2 bird on the ground. Now off to VT to see if i cant get one with a bow.. Here is the link to my maine turkey hunt. its just a reay fast edit so there are a few things that need to be changed and added in but all in all it came out good. let me knwo what u think of it.
  14. congrats to him. sounds like a good day
  15. This is just what i was looking for. most people around here eather like it or Cant stand hounds and the people that run them. Just like VT hunter and Mich bow hunter said its not for everyone and i would never try to forse it on anyone. But if you would like to go and see the excitment ill take ya.
  16. Not sure if this is the right place to put this or not but here it goes Was thinking..... What does everyone think about when you hear the words hound hunting??? For me it is thoughts of my great grand father "Bill Green" and the Lee brothers on horse back chasing Screaming hounds hot on the trail. Also i still see the excitment in my fathers eyes when I shot my first Bobcat with 2 of our hounds hot on his heals. And then this year when my brother took his first bear with the same old pre 64 30- 30 that Bill green used in alot of his hunts. I knwo that not all people agree with this type of hunting and thats ok i just want to know what everyone thinks about it good or bad
  17. Yes look at the ears. but they wont look small. a little bear will have big ears and will look funny because they will be out of praportune to his head. a big bear will have small ears. Also look at hes head and neck. if hes neck is smaller than his head he is small but if hes neck is as big or bigger than his head he is big. look at thsi bears ears and how small they are compaire to his head. also his neck is the same size as his head. This bear was 552 pounds and is the new state recored for NH
  18. Thats how we shoot all our bears but they are treed with hounds not but peopel
  19. I had the same problem 2 season ago with deer coming in and for whatever reason looking up at me. So i left that stand in over the winter and tryed hunting it the next season but the deer did the same thing. so i grabed anouther stand and set it up 20 yards from the other stand and killed 2 bucks out of it but they still looked up in that direction. i think that deer just look around and happen to look up. im not big on that uv stuff but if u say it works then il trust u im not ganna bash u on it its just not for me.
  20. Graduated Hs in 2005. went on to VTC and left there with a construction managment thing. and now i drive a plow truck for the state of NH. O well put my 20 years in retire and hunt and ski full time again.
  21. So ya i had been hunting this one area for about 2 weeks now. i shot at a nice deer but just cut him open and someone els killed him the falowing tuesday. so today i decided to go to a new/old spot. I did see three does in this area but nothin like what i see on the way to the parents house. My parents house is where i had been hunting. well as i get to the area where i usaly park my truck i see somthing on the edge of the road. i slow and put the high beams on and i just about passed out. this is one of the biggest deer i have ever seen in NH. I did get to see that it was a full blown eight. and would push 200 pound. the reason this is a kick in the pants is because where he came into the road is only about 1/4 mile from where i sit. and they have to go down this funnel because it is nothing but ledge on both sides and he would of had to come in shooting distance. know i think il sit there tomarrow but i dont think he will come back for a while what do u think
  22. Man your lucky. i know a guy that fell back probly 10 15 years ago now and still cant bow hunt. when he fell and hit his left arm on a peg. it went in and destroyed a bunch of nerve endings and messed him up big time. that i swhy i bought 7 of them life lines from hss. even when i go somewhere els i usaly will leave them one is they like them or bring them back home with me
  23. no the blood was off to the side. i think i may have hit him just below the arm pit and in the elbow region. was i didnt understand is he didnt run away he walked. im guessin that if i hit him there he will live as long as the yotes dont get to him what do u think
  24. i didnt know nick at all but i love the idea of naming this forum after him. goes to show what type of forum this realy is. My thoughts are with u Nick and i kwno u will watch over all of us this hunting season and many more to come. And i hope to meet you one day even tho it wont be on this earth..
  25. thats what i do is track. i dont kwno why maybe its because im so short. there are a few guides that i help out with tracking and i just like to do it and i have to much respect for that animal to levae it for the yotes. i just hope i didnt screw up. im going back in there in a few min and sit and maybe he will come back i dont think he will but maybe never knwo. its snowing so thet have to eat sometime.
