  1. Season starts Oct 1 here on Long Island. Have a couple of new places I am interested in trying out.
  2. I cannot believe the amount of lead fouling I had in the barrel when I got done. Is it possible the slugs scored the barrel? Sure looks like it!
  3. My Benelli has 26" smooth bore barrel and i had Full choke. I was shooting Winchester 1 oz hollow point rifled slugs.
  4. I took my Benelli out this weekend, and was I disappointed!! It was SOO inconsistent. I could only hit an 8 in target at 50 yds twice with 15 shots!! I couldn't hit the same place twice. It was hitting High and to the left and right (by more than a foot each way)!! I was using Winchester slugs. What was I doing wrong?
  5. I use the Montec G5 and I got great penetration on the deer I took last year. However, I tried to sharpen the blades and noticed the tip was blunted a bit. I don't know if I can get it out with sharpening.
  6. I use a Carter Insatiable 3 back tension release
  7. I just picked up a dozen of the Easton FMJ 400s with 4" quik spin ST vanes. They shot great, and you could hear how hard they were hitting. I didn't even have to adjust my sights much. By the time I was done, I had to have a vane put back on cause it grouped that tight!! I am looking forward to trying them out this hunting season.
  8. I have the Summit Goliath. I am just alittle guy (6'5" and 270lbs)
  9. I just got scent-lok for this year. I also have and have used silver lined garments which is supposed to inhibit bacteria growth that causes human scent. Not sure if I am convinced it works.
  10. I recently got a Benelli Super Nova with the regular shotgun barrel (not slug barrel). I have been told that I can shoot slugs with this barrel, it just won't be as accurate. Is this advisable? How much accuracy would I lose?
  11. I want to hunt mostly wild birds, I don't think I like "hunting" pen birds. It isn't really hunting
  12. I am getting new arrows, going to the Full Metal Jackets. I am trying to decide which length vanes to get. What would the difference be between the 4" and 2" vanes? I like the quick spins, and they came out with the "speed hunter" this year.
  13. I use 4" quik spins on my hunting arrows. I am told the slow my arrows down a bit but I find I get a tighter grouping with them.
  14. Does anyone out there use scopeson their shotguns? I was considering putting red dot scope on my Benelli, but it will take about 5-6 weeks toget the gun tapped. I wonder if it is even worth the time and money. Does it really make that big of a difference?
  15. Stoeger is actually made by Benelli (kinda like how Chevy is made by GM). I have read and heard good things about Stoeger. I recently received a Super Nova for my birthday (although I was really wanting a semi-auto). I shot it and it is very smooth. I was happy with it. I think you wil be happy with whatever one you decide on.
  16. I recent got a Benelli Super Nova, and I am interested in trying Pheasant hunting this fall. I do not have a dog and I don't really like the setup at the "pheasant clubs" in the area. What would be the best way for me to get into the sport?
  17. I shoot the Montec G5 broadhead 100gr and I love them. They are one solid piece head, very stable . They also make practice heads so you don't have to dull your hunting tips.
  18. My cousin has similar problems. He has property in PA, (but lives in NY). Kids keeps breaking in and damaging/stealing things off of his property. Most recently they broke into his shed, and stole his ATV. Cops there won't do anything about it.
  19. I am currently shooting Axis 400s and I use the Montec G5 broadheads, and I love them. They also make practice heads so you don't have to use the hunting tips.

    Arrows

Last year I shot Easton Axis 400s with Montec G5 broadhead This year I am going to try out the Easton Full Metal jackets but stick with the same broadheads
  21. There have been several articles in the newspapers and on the news recently, that the deer population is certain areas out here on long Island have gotten too large. Many of the crops from the farms and people's personal gardens are being eaten by the deer. It is almost to the point where they are considering nuisance licensing for deer. I was considering either putting up flyers or taking an ad out in the local paper to hunt deer on their land. I would not charge, just request permission to hunt their property, if big enough. This way I get new areas to hunt, and they can get rid of some of the deer around their property. I can almost get an unlimited number of doe tags, and donate the venison to local shelters. Has anyone tried this? I am looking for feedback, both positive and negative before I decide.
  22. I need to replace my string and cables. I have a Hoyt Havoctec with 2 cams. I have heard that Dakota strings are good, another dealer recommends Winner's choice. I can get the Dakota stings and cables for the same price as the Winner's Choice string. ANyone have an opinions on these?
  23. Cabelas sell one for around $250.00
  24. I am trying to decide which rangefinder I should get. I am looking at ones that adjust for angles. I expect to use it mostly while bowhunting from a treestand, probably no more than 20ft up and under 40yds in distance. Would the angle adjust even be needed for being just a few feet up or could I get away with one without it.
  25. Has anyone tried the Easton FMJs (Full Metal Jackets) yat? What do you think?
