  1. Re: Low recoil deer cartridges?? that was a field dressed weight. probably closer to 180 live weight..
  2. Re: Low recoil deer cartridges?? I use a .270 wsm also. i just hate people saying that the .223 isn't big enough.
  3. I was just wondering how many of you guys use light to medium weight deer cartridges. I kind of stole this topic off of another forum and wanted to see what you all think. I beleive that a .223 with a 63 grain bullet has plenty of knock down power. A .223 was my first deer rifle and I bought one for my wife for her first deer rifle. I only shot does when i used (actually it was my uncles) mine. However, her first deer was a 130 lb ten pointer. She hit him right behind the shoulder and he dropped. I have also shot numerous coyotes with the 63 grain federal bullets. To tackle hogs, we switch to 55 grain full metal jackets. I shot one hog that weighed close to 200 lbs. The bullet demolished the left shoulder and lodged in the right shoulder. She too dropped. Is it just me or do too many hunters shoot overly large bullets to compensate for shot placement??? Feedback Please... for campfire conflicts..

    Nocturnal buck

Re: Nocturnal buck be in your stand right after a good rain... especially if you find a scrape line of his... other than that, during the rut...
  6. Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? we like to leave the horns attached to the skull and bleach it. looks good with or without a plaque... we always had the same problem with the cap being to small... they must have made them for "southern" arizona deer...
  7. Re: Ever get so wound nope... i always kill em... j/j.... i hate that feeling too... once i know it is a deer I want.... I focus on only the shot... forget the points, how wide, how tall... then as soon as the encounter is over... pure wonderment takes over....
  8. Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? [ QUOTE ] Guess I am a bit of an oddball when it comes to caps. I prefer standard percussion caps on my black diamond. Can easily get the caps on or off with my fingers if or when I have to very quickly. The 209 primers, they will not come off when time to put another one on with out using the capper, at least not on my gun. The capper I have for the #11 caps is also easier to get the caps in under my scope as well. The remington hotter caps they came out with about 4 or 5 years ago are pretty good, and while they may not be as hot as a shotgun primer, so long as you keep the breech and nipple clean, you should not have any problems. I have never had a misfire or any hesitations with ignition whatsoever with them in my black diamond. Having shot both, I have seen no difference in my groups with my setup from one to the other. [/ QUOTE ] same for me.. i shot 209 out of my TC black diamond until it broke on me in the middle of the season.. so a switched to the caps and didn't loose anything. I do think the 209 puts off a lot more fire and would probably be better in wet/humid conditions. but if you keep the gun clean and dry... no major difference..

  13. Re: Shooting From Ground Question always shoot from the ground too.... i usually try to at least get one shoulder when shooting with a gun... if you get one of them, you will have blood.... if they don't drop in there tracks!!!! i'd never aim low...

    Tinks 69

Re: Tinks 69 don't care what species if it works...probably is last years left overs..... but that is true for all doe urine purchased before the rut.... I know some is fresher than others.... i bought it because it was like $25 for 32 ounces....figured I give some to everybody and see if it works.... if it doesn't...oh well...less than $1 an ounce... and it really does smell like tinks... so I am thinking it will.... like I said, i have never had a big one come into any doe urine.... could resist at the price.

  24. Re: When are they old enough? [ QUOTE ] in my opinion they are old enough when they start wanting to go.....I am sure it will be the best memories of his child hood [/ QUOTE ] when they are old enough and when you are ready to sacrafice days afield hunting. when you bring them along... all of our rules/rituals go out the door.... you can't expect them to behave in the woods... it is way to exciting and boring all at once. it is definitely worth it... go for it right away. my daughter is 7 months old and she will be with me every time possible...
  25. Re: Muzzleloader deer (pic) if ten does come by me, one will definitely get drilled... at least shot at...
