  1. To any Elk hunters out there: My buddy Erick is a finalist for Drury Outdoors Bow Madness - Harley Davidson. Trying to help him get some votes. It was a public land, do it yourself, over the counter hunt. He makes a great shot. http://www.druryoutdoors.com/12/tv/vote-for-i-shot-it-with-my-pse.php I think anyone who views his video will be very impressed.
  2. I have a green head lamp light I wear in and out of the woods. I only really turn it on though if I can't see...otherwise I just let my eyes adjust and use the moonlight to see with.
  3. thanks everyone...I just may get one soon. I read good reviews too, but that is why this forum exists...so hunters can talk to hunters about first hand experiences with the various products on the market. I'm not married yet, so I better spring for it now before my girlfriend tricks me into becoming her fiance! hahaha...thanks again!
  4. Fellas / ladies, I am looking into a game camera and was taking a look at the RECONYX game cameras. Anyone have any thoughts / experiences on their camera products?
  5. I have had one pair of Lacrosse rubber boots for 3 years now. I NEVER have had a problem with them. I use them for archery only or hunting in snow conditions. I recommend
  6. depending on water and nutrition in your area (proteins), antlers will grow from mid-late August and then begin to shed velvet.
  7. depending on the water and nutrition in your area, I believe most bucks grow their antlers until around mid-late August. Then the start to shed the velvet. He's be a nicer buck next year...I would pass on him this year.
  8. Fellas / Ladies I have brand new Realtree Hardwoods Plastics for sale. They have never been on a quad!! All reasonable offers considered. These are the plastics, NOT the plastic cover kits that are sold. Through a dealer, these OEM plastics will cost anywhere from $1,500 - $2,000. They look great ! Made for a Yamaha, but they don't fit my 2004 Grizzly 660 (a bit too small for that size quad). The Realtree Hardwoods pattern in sweet! If interested, message me or feel free to email me at: [email protected] I live in the Pittsburgh, PA area if anyone is local and interested. Thanks.
  9. practice, persistance, and dedication! Archery is a lot of form and creating muscle memory and focus. If you are going to be serious about becoming a good archer or bowhunter, make the investment to into a decent bow, get the proper set up done by a real pro shop and start shooting! Get some targets and shoot over and over. Get involved in a little club and practice around guys that know what they are doing. There are a number of instruction videos and a ton of tv shows on the outdoor and pursuit channels nowadays that are about archery and hunting.
  10. whisker biscuit...no question!
  11. I just bought myself a new Bowtech General for Christmas. It is silk smooth...fast, no handshock what so ever! Take my advice...I went and shot all of the new bows out like Matthews DXT and Drenalin, Hoyt's Katera, and PSE's XForce...then I shot the BowTech General last...WOW...it wasn't even a comparison! If you do that...you'll be coming home with the same bow in the truck like I did.
  12. I sat in my tree once while archery hunting and added up the price of all the equipment and apparel I had with me that day. It didn't take me long to approach the $1,500 dollar mark. However, I rationalize the money spent in this way...I work hard for it, it is MY money, it is what gives me the most enjoyment, the most is going to be spent on something regardless. I do diligence in really keepin an eye open for sales, clearances, after season sales, and look for stuff on Craigslist.
  13. fellas / ladies... I treated myself to an new bow this year...the Bowtech General. All I can say is WOW! Zero and I mean zero handshock. This bow shoots as smooth as a hot knife through butter...unbelievable. Back in the summer, I shot the XForce, Katera, DXT, Adrenalin, and General...impressed by all, but didn't buy. Then, my buddy told me that the same shop was selling off their bows at 15-25% discounts and simply going to be an all gun dealer. So I went back down this past weekend, narrowed the field to an Adrenalin or General...and the choice was easy...man was there a difference!! And really...neither bow was "set up"...pretty much just brass tax so to speak.. My goal is to get it set up tomorrow and use it in the 2nd season archery here in PA.
  14. I heard the Primos model is hard to deal with from a functional standpoint. Talked with a guy who took his back. Said the camera moved to much. Thoughts...
  15. I am looking to buy a camera arm for my video camera so I can start filming my hunts. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good one?
  16. I was looking to buy a scouting camera. I have looked at several and was thinking about buying a Cuddeback No Flash model. Does anyone have any feedback to provide on this camera?
  17. As a follow up to my earlier comment...the Boomslang site I have also was only about $60...with camo...the all black is closer to mid-low $50's. Again...a really niec site for a very reasonable price.
  18. I love the whisker biscuit rest...never have to worry about my arrow. Also...in case you are stalking or walking to from your stand during the rut...you can easily keep the arrow knocked and walk. I have a Cobra Boomslang...and really like it. 4 pins...comes in black and camo (Realtree) and the fiber optic pins stay lit for a good while...
  19. That was going to be my strategy too. In my area...as of this past weekend...I was only seeing early scrape sign. The "big boys" seem to only be moving late at night.
