Thanks everybody.. valuable imfo. I'm learning what to look for. Plus,,, even better. You all scored my bow kill this weekend in the 140's. I thought this guy was bigger than my bow kill. This makes me even more excited about the one I got!!! :toot:

yes, on anther forum many have said the same thing. I guess I have alot to learn. He looked bigger even than the bow kill I got this weekend to me. I guess he is not. To me, he just seemed so big bodied. I was thinking 4.5 years, but I was wrong. thanks

isn't his body huge?? check out the brows too!:jaw:

Tominator, is 140 the P&Y cutoff? Is it a benchmark? taking a few inches off doesn't concern me too much because I'm so happy with him anyway. So, don't worry it's not a wet blanket. However, I'm not understanding why the few less inches would be bad news unless 140 was some kind of measuring mark. thanks, woodshed

this is my first taxidermist worthy deer. I'm shopping now for a good one. If anybody can recommend any in the ST Louis, MO area, thanks. I can't wait to post my mount here when I get him back.

Thanks guys. It was a great hunt. When I saw him come into the field, the sun was right at the horizon. I was facing straight west into the glare. So I was trying not to look that way. All of a sudden I felt this big shadow come across the field because of the sharp angle of the sun it was across his profile. I looked up 275-300 yards away and there he was going directly across the field. In the field are some mature oak trees. He stopped at one and stood on his rear legs 3 times to grab a branch with his mouth and pulled it down then scraped. I grunted and he looked over at me, but was not interested. He continued to the opposite edge of the field. I was panicked that he would just go in the woods and leave. I grunted a few more times. He would look but then scrape each time. Thrash the branches. At one point he just grazed for about 10 minutes. I grunted one last time. He then came the final 75 yards right to me. At 20 yards I shot him. All he did was flinch slightly and walk about 10 yards to the corner of the field. He stood there for a few minutes as I prepared for another shot. (I learned I need a better follow on shot ability with arrows!) He walked the remaining 10 yards into the edfe of the woods and then just stood there for a few more minutes. Now I had no shot. Then he got weak kneed and tipped over. He was only like 30 yards away and within sight! It was such a great hunt. The repeated grunting then scraping and then comming closer was so exciting. This is what brings people like us back to the woods every year!! I was blessed tonight! Here are some before pics!!

Shot this guy 5:30 tonight. I grunted him in from 300 yards over 20 minutes. He's my best deer so far. Can you help me get idea what he scores?

I have the Ruger 10/22 and it is awesome. It's dead nuts accurate putting bullets in the same hole. Reliable as all get out. It's very affordable and in my opinion the best bang for the buck.

I need a low recoiling youth deer rifle. Used preferably due to massive pay cut. thank you, woodshed

I knew I was hardcore when I was told to lay in bed with frozen peas on my nads after my vasectomy (for 3 days!!). After 20 minutes I got restless. Brought my peas with me and went hunting. Shot a doe in less than an hour!!!! I ended up dragging more than the deer,,,,LOL

the website says you can see through it. I like that because you can stay down behind it until the shot. Unless you can find that kind of material, then making something else yourself wouldn't be as good in my opinion. It would be easy to make if you find the material. If somebody does, let me know. I'd like to do it also. I like this concept for my hunting style.

I have a new ML that is stainless steel barrel. Do I need to use any diff. products or techniques cleaning the stainless from the blued barrel? thanks.

I need to see what a grey laminated stainless steel gun would look like with a nickel scope and a black scope. I have a black scope I can use and think it would look nice since the laminate is dark and has black in it. If nickel scope is better, then I will save for that and get one if so. thanks

I just got a new TC Omega. It's Stainless fluted with grey laminated stock. I presently shoot the same gun in the Blue synthetic with a black Burris Fullfield II on top. Don't want to buy a new silver scope. Please send pics of your grey laminated SS Omega with a silver scope or a black scope so I can compare. I know this is vain/silly, but I want it to look good too. thanks

I have a brand new in the box Ridgid table saw. It retailed for 559.00 + tax. I'm asking 475.00. I've had it too long to return and I'd like to get a bigger saw. This has never been out of the box. It's the heavy cast iron top one with "Hercu Lift" base and rollers. This allows great mobility around the shop. This is the larger and more powerful saw that Ridgid makes. Ridgid warranties all their power tools for lifetime. Assembled Depth (In Inches) : 59.00 In. Assembled Height (In Inches) : 18.10 In. Assembled Weight (In LBS) : 324.65 Assembled Width (In Inches) : 29.50 In. Blade Diameter : 10 In. Maximum Cut Depth @ 45 Deg. : 2.62 In. Maximum Cut Depth @ 90 Deg. : 3 In. Table Length : 23.50 In. Table Width : 25.75 In. I live in Lake St. Louis, MO a local pickup would be necessary due to the size and weight of this saw. Thanks

I remember reading a study like that too. The main point I remember was surprising to me. I'm no ballistic expert just remember what it said. That is, a slug can travel just as far as a bullet due to the kinetic energy is stores from it's weight. The reason they really aren't safer is because they go just as far but at some point they become wildly unpredictable in direction. Whereas a bullet will still stay mostly oncourse til it hits the ground. Still unsafe, but the slug statistically hits as many people and buildings around the country as bullets do. The article's point was that just because you are only effective to 100-150 yards does not mean it doesn't keep going long past that.
