  2. Re: FAT FAT FAT! 2 of the does I took opening day had a lot of fat on them as well. Sounds like it could be a darn cold one this year in Wisconsin.
  3. Re: Late season Bucks !!!! Great buck Kory.
  4. Re: My First Deer Ever Congrats, you never forget the first one. Keep up the straight shooting.
  5. Re: Iowa Success! Congratulations on an awesome buck, James.
  6. We had an unbelievable season this year starting with my Dad pulling a double with the bow taking these 2 deer on 9-21-06. Then on 10-12-06 I harvest my biggest buck ever. This 195 lb 17" spread 8pt. Then on the WI Gun Season opener, 11-18-06, I managed to take 5 of the 7 deer I saw (3 adult doe and 2 yearling doe). This picture was taken looking down from my treestand. Wac 'em and Stack 'em I think is the phrase. Then we finished up on Monday 11-20-06 when I harvested my 2nd nice buck of the year. This one was 190 lbs, 14" spread 6 pt with 3 sticker point. Unfortunately he had both brow tines broke off. We ended up with a freezer full of meat filling 9 of our 10 tags. This is the best season we have had in a long time and one that will be hard to forget. I would like to congratulate all of you that spent the time in the woods doing what we love to do, Hunt. I would like to send out a special thanks to my Dad, for getting me started 23 years ago. I hope we have many more seasons together and I can't wait until my girls are old enough to hunt. They are ready now, but the law says they are too young. What ya gonna do except keep getting them ready for when that day comes.
  7. Re: **00buck whacks and stacks** (pics) Great looking buck.
  8. Re: How long to hang a deer? [ QUOTE ] We usually skin them within 24 hours - quicker if the temp is above 40 or below 20. We prop the chest cavity open while hanging to promote cooling. We'll then let them hang for a day or two to ensure they have cooled down -- since we do our own butchering we find that it is easier to bone the meat out if the meat is a touch frozen (ice crystals present not solid) [/ QUOTE ] I agree with WABS as far as the meat temp to debone, but we do not skin them until we are ready to butcher. This keeps the outter layer of meat from getting dried out and therefore have less waste. We normally try to butcher within 1 to 3 days.
  9. Re: deer processing Usually I figure about 50% of the dressed weight as a rough estimate. It is normally pretty close. We have always processed our own deer. Over the years we have weighed all sizes and then compare to the amount of meat. A lot of it depends on how thorough you are at deboning, and as stated before how much damaged meat there is. But as a rough estimate I figure 50%.
  10. Re: cleaning and hanging deer I usually don't hose them out unless like firefighter said they are full of leaves, dirt, or if you get into the guts. I just get them cleaned out good in the field, hang them until they cool down and then start deboning them. Unless it is an early season kill, then they hang overnight and we get them cut up as soon as possible.
  11. Re: not a deer but... Nice shooting. I have taken a few over the years from the treestand, but missed more than I have gotten.
  12. Re: HE\'S BAAAAACK! Very nice, quick turnaround time. I took mine in on 10-14-06 and won't have mine back until around April.

    what kind of bow?

Re: what kind of bow? Browning Adrenaline SX
  14. Re: How far will you shoot at a deer? I usually keep it 35 and under. First year with a new bow, so I haven't been able to practice beyond that. Confidence is the biggest factor in shooting at any distance along with knowing the limitations of your bow and yourself.
  15. Re: Pa bucks, Pics Great looking deer, congrats to both the boys.
  16. Re: heres my buck from this year Congrats on a nice buck.
  17. Re: My girlfriends 2nd buck!!!!!!! Congrats to both of you.

  20. Re: Brrrrrrrrrrrrr. It really dropped here last night, it is about 22F with -2F windchill.
  21. Re: How old was your kid... Both of my girls have been watching it get done since they were old enough to walk into the woods with me. They are now 6 and 10. The both started helping in the processing parts when they were about 3 or 4. They started out cutting lean cuts with a butter knife, the following year they went to a pairing knife and by the 3rd year they were using a regular knife. So, not to much phases my 2 girls.
  22. Re: HE\'S BACK!!!!! What a monster, nice looking mount.
  23. Re: tobacco products while hunting? I personally smoke in the stand, granted I try to keep it to a minimum, but I have had to put a cigarette out to get ready for a shot. Where I hunt there are a lot homes that burn wood, so the deer are used to the smell of smoke. Cig smoke might have a little different smell, but they don't know the difference between wood smoke and tobacco smoke. I have 3 already this year and haven't had any real problems in the past either. If you are an extremely scent conscious person don't do either.

    Can Call

Re: Can Call They have worked for me, called in my biggest buck to date with it on 10-12-06. I have had some deer spook, some come in cautiously, and bucks come in on the run. It all depends on that days situation. Try it what can it hurt.
  25. Re: HOW DOES RAIN EFFECT THE RUT??? I have had good luck in the past during a light rain, but when the cooler weather comes in it should really explode. Keep after em.
