I shot him on Sunday night. I wasnt able to get out to the stand until about 5 that evening. As i was walking up to the stand i just started getting this good feeling coming over me. After sitting for about 20 minutes i started coughing like crazy. Im just getting over a cold so Im coughing quite a bit but i can usually control it so im not so loud. I was coughing so hard that i actually threw up a little in my mouth! I honestly thought i wasnt going to see anything after that, and not even a minute later i saw a deer coming through the woods about 50 yds away. I knew he was a good buck but i was in for a surprise when i found him. After the shot I was worried that i had missed because after the smoked cleared i didnt see him or hear him running anywhere. After i reloaded my TC Encore, I climbed down to search for blood. When i went to where i thought he was there was no deer or blood anywhere. So i started looking around for blood or even the body. After walking about 20 yds i turned and saw him laying right where i shot him, he was further than i thought. He is an 11 pointer and he dressed out at 168. We havent seen this buck before so we know there are much bigger ones out there still.

Ok, I have decided on the weekend of February 20-22. The deer and turkey expo is that weekend at the state fairgrounds. So what better time to do it!!!! Will everyone pm me and let me know if friday or saturday evening will work better please. Thanks Chris

My first deer was taken on opening day of the 2001 Indiana gun season. I was sitting in a stand that i really didnt want to sit in, but dad thought i would see something there. After sitting for some time and not seeing anything, i saw a yearling come running down the fence at about 15 yds. I was shaking so bad after the smoke cleared and i heard her crash just over the hill. Dad was up at the truck waiting for me when i shot and came down to see if it was me who shot. We were yelling back and forth before he got to me, and weren't trying to be quiet at all. He actually lit a cigarette and suddenly stopped talking. He said I just heard a buck grunt, how he heard it i have no idea, and he saw the buck standing about 50 yds away. He handed me his muzzleloader and i was able to shoot the buck also. So the first time i got a deer, i was able to get 2 deer within 10 minutes of each other. They actually died about 15 yds apart, and i will never forget it.

I finally convinced my girlfriend to go hunting with me last night. I know this may not be a big deal to some, but its a huge deal to me. Just about a month ago I was watching primetime bucks XVI and she came in to watch with me, and the first deer she watched get shot she started to cry. Now she is wanting to get a license and actually try and get one herself. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!! We got out kinda late, but i knew we would be ok. I found a spot on the ground about 30 yards from where they come out and cleared a spot for us to sit. After sitting for about 30 minutes she heard something in the ravine and i could tell it was a deer. She started getting the shakes like every true hunter gets and i couldnt believe it when she told me that. After we heard the deer down in the ravine walking around for a little bit i saw 2 does come out into the field about 40 yards. I waited to see if more were going to step out and i finally made the decision to take her. She was 25 yards when i laid the smack down on her, and she didnt run 50 yards. I love getting that close to these animals like that, and having her out there with me made it that much more special.

we went spotlighting last night and saw 6 different bucks with 1 doe. The mac daddy that was "with" her was a giant 10 pointer. Almost every deer we saw was bedded down in grass fields. Saw maybe 3 in the crops. Tomorrow is going to be very interesting.

I like the idea of a camping/fishing trip, maybe we can discuss this more at the dinner. I was thinking a texas RH or something along those lines also.
