Whats your tactics/ strategies for hunting birds in the late afternoon? Where are they likely going to be?
-
I would set up down the line but they roost on the edge of property I can't hunt and were walking onto that property... I have a few small places to hunt that if I call onto any part of the property and don't get a response there's likely no birds or they don't wanna talk. Altho I do hunt a public peice. That I can walk for a very long time (there's alllooottta ground) but everytime I go there I don't hear any birds? Altho this morning walkin back to the truck a large longbeard walked right infront of my car as I was driving out!! I have a feeling he was working his way to my calling I had done earlier to get some gobbles?

Howdy y'all. So im not new to hunting by any means, been bowhunting many species for many years mostly whitetail hunting. This is my first year bowhunting turkeys. Now calling wise im fairely experienced, I do most of my calls with my natural voice and have had AWESOME luck gettin gobbles. Now my question is. How to hunt them?? Haha I went out this morning and got about 5 gobblers to burst in their roost. I think I moved in too close..... but they kept gobbling but moving the opposite way? And how do I get on turkeys when they aren't wanting to respond? Ect ect. ANY tips would be awesome. Thanks!!

Southern ohio. Its called premier whitetail guide school. Owned by southern ohio outfitters. I am trying to get ahold of a graduate from this school to find out how professional it was and they type of things learned. It is a diploma based school and provides job placement so who knows maybe it will be a good school....
-
What do you. Mean payed in hunts? As in the privilege to hunt at the lodge? Or payed per hunt?
-
Doing what I love and loving what I do what about guiding for whitetails in a lodge in say illinois or iowa? Or my home state of nebraska?
-
Hey y'all, I am seriously considering pursuing a career as a professional hunting guide. There are many guide schools around but the 2 I have been looking at are in ohio and colorado. I am leaning towards ohio because thier school mainly focuses on whitetail and turkey... the two I have the most experience with. I guess my question is are any of you guides? I generally know what the duties of a guide are.... but would like to know all there is to know. What's the life of a guide like??

I just got it today, I previously had a whisker biscuit. And was finding it hard to hold a steady group from 40,50 and 60 yards. I believe the biscuit was creating too much drag on the arrow and tweaking the canes during flight. Have you guys experienced increased accuracy with the QAD when you switched from your old rest??
-
I think I might fall in love with this rest. What Are your guys experience with it? Like it? Love it? Hate it? Ah its okay?

Is It better to have your site further or closer to the riser? I have a true glow site that has an adjustable arm that attatches to the riser. Just wondering if it is a personal preference? Or actually has an advantage either way?

A large crowd gathered Monday afternoon in front of Dutch's Trading Post as sportsmen and passers-by admired "Lucky Buck" — an elusive 30-point whitetail buck taken by bow Sunday night west of Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac resident Wayne Schumacher was accepting handshakes and pats on the back as he related how he had managed to down the buck, which featured a huge non-typical rack, around dusk at 6:45 p.m. "towards Rosendale." "It's so hard to believe," Schumacher said, noting he's hunted with bow and gun for more than 30 years. "I had known people had seen it in the area but I had no idea (it was nearby)." The 30-point deer has an inside antler spread of 20½ inches. Its field-dressed weight was about 225 pounds. Estimates are that the deer is at least 4½ to 5 years old. Schumacher said he was in a tree stand looking at partially wooded flat terrain. The deer appeared and there was no time to be nervous, Schumacher said. "In 30 seconds, it was over," he said, noting the shot covered about 15 yards. The deer ran off 60 to 70 yards, and Schumacher's hunting partner, his brother, Pete, was first to reach the animal. He realized its rack had at least 28 points. The deer was shot at an angle behind the rib cage, and the arrow went through one of the front legs. Schumacher said he and his brother dragged the deer and struggled to get it onto the tailgate of a truck. They stopped at Wayne's home in Fond du Lac to take some pictures. They then took the deer to Pete's home east of Fond du Lac to get it into a large cooler. The brothers and a group of family and friends toasted with beer and homemade wine as they celebrated what is being called the "deer of a lifetime." "I had to behave," Schumacher said, "but I had a little bit of a headache this morning." He went to work Monday morning at his job with the construction and maintenance division with the City of Fond du Lac. He said he worked four hours Monday. He asked his boss if he could have the afternoon off. Though he had up to three days to do it, Schumacher said he wanted to get the deer that is known by some as "Lucky Buck," registered. He also admitted his mind wasn't on his job, which Monday, involved mixing concrete. Over the weekend, Schumacher and his wife, Nancy, helped their 24-year-old son, Adam, who "loves the sport" of bow hunting, move into a house in Dubuque, Iowa. Schumacher remembers saying that he wanted to leave early enough Sunday to allow a couple hours of bow hunting that evening. "Everything worked," he said. "It's luck." Dozens gathered At Dutch's, 258 N. Main St., hunters who gathered around the deer speculated on how many points were on each side of the rack. Most believed there were 16 on one side and 14 on the other. "That's a dandy," one man dressed in camouflage said, hugging Schumacher. Many others had their cell phones on camera mode, taking pictures to prove they saw a real 30-point buck. Officials from Deer and Deer Hunting magazine, based in Iola, were headed to Fond du Lac, to determine a "green" score (before shrinkage) for official archery records. Jake LaPine, owner of Dutch's, said he believes the animal will score more than 200 points. One estimate Monday afternoon was at 251, before deductions. The score could put the deer close to a new Wisconsin state record. The archery record for a non-typical whitetail rack is 233, scored on a 16-point buck taken in Buffalo County. and there is the story :eat::rockon:

ok so i made a homemade bow the other day draw length is great and at full draw i weighed it and it is between 40 and 45#, 40# is legal to hunt deer in nebraska with WELL ya it says 40# and i can get awesome distance with it but it doesn't seem to penetrate the target enough to kill a deer to stick bows have less penetration than other bows at the same draw weight ??

Hey everyone!!, i've heard of guys using 5 gallon buckets and attaching bunjy chords to the top of it so the only way the deer can get to the food in the bucket is to weave their head through the bunjy chords and when they pull their head out their antlers may drop off, what do u guys think about this? does it work?
