  1. Haven't been out yet but have some great pics on the trail cam! I also haven't been on the forums in ages, and I look forward to checking in more often. Hope everyone's healthy, happy and enjoying the great outdoors! Laura
  2. Any recommendations on a disc cultivator for a 4-wheeler ATV which will be used in low-lying areas with lots of swamp grass? Thanks!
  3. Very nice post, Catrina. . . . thanks for sharing it! Laura
  4. Food - ice cream Color - red Wild animal - bear Domestic animal - have had cats and dogs and like both, especially when they don't cough up a fur ball or poop on the carpet

    WoooHooooo!

That's awesome! Congrats, and welcome to the forums!
  6. I bow hunted when I was pregnant but don't remember if I shot a gun or not. I did ride my Harley until my jacket wouldn't zip together anymore, and my OB was perfectly fine with that. In fact, he printed an extra ultrasound picture for me to put on my windshield! I'm a big believer in common sense and not living in a bubble. That doesn't mean throw caution to the wind and put yourself or your unborn child in a blatently unsafe position, it simply means be safe and enjoy being alive.
  7. First of all, whatever you decide is best for you, you'll simply love holding a bow in your hand this fall instead of camera equipment! You mention that you're concerned that once you're up in the stand you might have trouble pulling back more than 50#. How about climbing up right now and giving some practice shots from the stand at 50#? It's true that what you're able to comfortably manage on flat ground doesn't always hold true for off the ground, so I'd suggest trying that before buying your own bow. I'm with the other women on the weight thing - I pull 50# (my bow's max) and plan on moving up to a higher max on my next bow. That being said, 50# gets the kill, and as long as you practice and know how much your arrow will drop at various distances (so you know where to aim), you'll be fine. Good luck and enjoy! Laura
  8. We love to ice fish, too. It's one of our favorite winter activities - our kids, now 5 and 7, are real troopers out on the ice, and they are great at making sure the holes don't ice over! I think we're a few years away from any championships, though, but that sounds like a great time.
  9. Walking into a spider web always gets me, but geez, Andrea, hearing something being eaten alive sure beats that! I was spooked last year at the end of an evening hunt. Just as I decided that it was time to climb down from the tree stand, coyotes started howling - and it sounded as though they were within 50 yards. I made it down and back home in record time that night!
  10. Funny! They all might be young, but they sure tell it like it is!
  11. I couldn't remember if you had a little girl or boy. . . . sorry about that. . . . . Either way, it was definitely the very sweet and excited voice of a youngster eager to be a part of the hunting experience!
  12. Happy belated - your motorbike rides sound great! Laura
  13. Welcome to the world of Parker!!!! I've been shooting a Parker Challenger for ten years, but I saw your new bow the other day and just might have to treat myself. . . . . Besides, the day is coming when our 7-year-old son will be moving up to my "old" Parker. As a loving mother, I'll simply have to make the sacrafice, pass it on to him, and be forced to buy that Contender XP for me!
  14. Interesting read - and the problem sounds to be not in just one area. Last year we had a total of 16 little ones (in two separate groups), and this year we've only seen 5. Time to weed out the coyotes.
  15. What a buck! I also loved listening to your little girl's comments - she was quite proud to have spotted those does! Hunting is clearly in her blood - just like it is for our two kids! Junior hunting partners in the making. . . .
  16. Happy Birthday, my fellow Leo.
  17. Thanks for the birthday wishes! While I haven't spent the time on the forums like I used to, I still think of you all quite often. I'm genuinely proud to be associated with the great people who make this place what it is, and I look forward to many more years of fun and camaraderie here with each of you! Thanks again, Laura
  18. No luck for me - sorry, team. I was really confident about this season, but coordinating time to be out there ready to shoot with when the toms showed up proved to be unsuccessful. I did get a shot off with my bow (using the Guillotine) which didn't take his head off quite like I had hoped it would. He trotted away just fine, but I'm not convinced that I'm going to shoot one of those crazy broadheads again (hoosierhunter, now that I've taken a true shot on a bird with one of those, I agree 100% with what you wrote about them!). I sure wish that I could've posted one for the team. . . . Congrats to those who did!
  19. As many recall, it was one year ago June 4 when 6 men lost their lives as the plane they were in went down over Lake Michigan. Dr. David "Exturkinator" Ashburn was, as we know all too well, among those who died. The University of Michigan Health System is planning an afternoon of events designed to honor and remember "the heroes we lost". For those interested, look at the webpage http://med.umich.edu/heroes2007/index.html for more information. While this is no doubt a sad and somber time for so many, I ask that you might focus on a couple of things. First and foremost, please continue your prayers of support and strength for his widow, Candice, and for their three beautiful children. Second, rejoice, as does his family, with confidence in the assurance of his place of eternal peace and joy in heaven. Thanks, Laura
  20. You might also want to try adding a touch of brown sugar to it. . . . takes just enough of the "bite" out yet still leaves it tangy.
  21. Holy cow! My brother-in-law recommended that we try the guillotines, so we bought some (both my husband and I are planning to hunt turkey with our bows this spring for the first time instead of our usual shotguns). That video sure tells it like it is. . . . What broadhead do you use, Bowtech_archer 07? The pictures you posted of the kill zones are helpful. I've heard that it's more tricky to get a good placement on a strutting bird. True? Good luck to you, SuperMn106, and have a great hunt! There's really something special about springtime in the woods - especially when you've scouted and are right where you want to be at day's first light. Hearing the gobble of a tom and successfully calling him in for the shot is a really cool experience. Enjoy! Laura

    Cabin (updated pics)

I like it, Scott! Looks like a real cozy place. Good move on that food plot, too! I'd say you and your dad are all set for some good times and great hunts.
  23. $3.45 I filled up on the way home from work today, and the pump shut off automatically at $75. I reached the limit, apparently, on how much either my Visa lets me pay for gas or the pump is allow to deliver! That's okay - I'd seen enough anyway.
  24. She's beautiful! Congrats to all - what a story! I'll bet you guys never eat another onion for the rest of your lives without telling the tale of little Hannah's birth.
