  1. I enjoyed my English classes. I suppose it helped that I was on my high school newspaper staff and had plenty of opportunities to actually have fun with writing. Creative freedom can make all the difference!
  2. Hey, Rhino - so sorry to read about the loss of your dear friend and his wife. I'm sure you're going through quite a bit dealing with that right now. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Hoosierhunter, thanks for the advice on the guillotines and other pointers on shooting a turkey with the bow. I'm hoping for the ideal shot (who isn't?!) to take one with my bow. . . I might have my shotgun with me, too, just in case a beauty comes along out of bow range. As of late, the birds have really broken up and gone separate ways around here. My season starts early May and runs through to the end of the month. I'm really looking forward to some time in the woods!
  3. Right from the early 70's Move the seat down so the sissy bar is higher, add a bell and some streamers flowing from the handle ends, and this was my "ride" all those years ago. Talk about hot.
  4. My, oh my, Joe, I like it! What a beautiful new bow! My husband shoots one of the first solo-cam bows by Mathews, and technology has certainly advanced from then to now. I think your "testimonial" (complete with nice photos) just might help him make the leap and finally buy a new one! Congrats on one nice bow. (Even though it's not a Parker. )
  5. Any fish that pulls out line always makes for fun fishing, yet there's something simple about a cane pole, an earthworm and some Bluegill that I do love.
  6. Crazy toms! Nice birds, guys! Sound like some exciting hunts. On my way into town today, there were two nice toms struttin' like there was no tomorrow right in the middle of the road! Mind you, it's a dirt road, but still, it's pretty regularly traveled. These guys were so busy trying to impress the ladies that I nearly took one out with my car instead of my bow! Speaking of my bow, this will be my first time going after a bird with an arrow. We picked up these fixed blade broadheads that go by the name "The Guillotine". Anyone either heard of them or actually shot with them? Any pointers for my hunt? Thanks much, Laura
  7. Oh, come on now, behave? That's too boring! Something tells me that most of us ladies who hunt also know how to stir it up a bit and have great fun in the process!
  8. Around here, we are more than ready for spring to arrive in full bloom! Tomorrow we're off for a fun couple of days at an indoor waterpark/lodge type thing. The kids are geeked! (Okay, my husband and I are excited, too. . . ). The turkeys are starting to break up, it seems. My permit is for most of the month of May. I can't wait!
  9. Steve and his family are in my thoughts and prayers, too.
  10. Just saw two toms strutting in the snow this morning here, too! It's a cool thing to see. With this late-season snow, it seems like several folks are getting to enjoy the same scene!
  11. On my drive home from work yesterday, a number of yards had "snowbunnies" in them instead of "snowmen"! At our house, we got about 7 inches of snow. Ten minutes away in Dexter, they officially measured in at 9.6 inches! More than a dusting, that's for sure!

    Awesome!!!!

If your success in the classroom is anything like what you accomplished last deer season, I'd say there's no stopping you! Way to go, Ruth!
  13. Congrats to all you successful hunters! Nice birds, for sure. My season won't start until May, so I'll have to be patient and enjoy reading your stories and admiring your pictures while I wait for my turn to get out into the woods. I suppose it's good practice for when I'll have to be patient while hunting. Patience is a virtue, right?! Too bad I didn't show that quality this morning when I backed into our garage door. . . . Around here, the birds are starting to strut quite a bit. We also continue to see lots of nice toms on our property. . . several have made it habit to check out our bird feeder, which is only 10 or less feet from our kitchen's bay window. The kids love stalking up to the window to watch . . . talk about good practice for their future! They even whisper to each other like true hunting partners! Continued luck and fun in the woods to all of you.
  14. Please include my name, as well, and thanks for putting this together. Laura
  15. Hello! Sorry that I haven't checked in before now. . . we were on vacation and just got back late yesterday. Turkey Tales sounds good to me. My season starts May 5 and runs through May 31. We've had some great-looking toms come through our property on a regular basis, so I'm really excited about my chances for success! I'm also glad to be part of this team. I'm hoping to use an Exturkinator-wrapped arrow to take my tom with. . . . whether with bow or gun, David Ashburn will certainly be on my mind as I sit in the woods this spring. Laura

    Met Mickey

We flew back home to the land of snow yesterday after enjoying a week of sunshine in Florida. My parents have become snowbirds, and we finally took them up on the invite to come down and visit. Took in NASA, orange groves, beaches, shell hunting, great seafood, and, of course, Disney World! Our soon-to-be 5-year-old daughter was beside herself with excitement to meet her favorite princesses, and our 7-year-old son was most impressed with Goofy's Barnstormer rollercoaster. All in all, it was a wonderful time, and the kids loved the one-on-one time with Grandma and Grandpa. I must confess. . . .when I saw the snow-covered fields from the airplane window, a smile came across my face. As fun as it is to travel, there really is no place like home!
  17. I was home on a day off of work with our son (who was just under 7 months old at the time) tuned into the Today Show and sipping my morning coffee. Like others, I heard the announcement of a "small plane" hitting one of the towers and then watched in disbelief and horror as a second plane - clearly a commercial one - hit the other tower. As others have written, it was at that moment overwhelmingly clear that evil was forcing itself upon our country and people. While most folks became aware of what was happening virtually as it unfolded, my husband was probably one of very few people who didn't know until the following day. He was packed in by the Bitterroot National Forest on an elk hunt. September 11 was the final night of the hunt, and he was due to fly home the following day, September 12. Fortunately, my husband and some other guys (from Pennsylvania) pooled funds and found one of the last rental cars available. I don't believe that I've ever been more happy to see him return home - safely - as I was when he finally made it back to Michigan. . . and into my waiting arms.

    Home Remedies?

Neil-Med sinus irrigation. Most any pharmacy carries the kit (~ $12), and it really does help!!! Two times a day, mix a little packet with some warm water and rinse out your sinuses. Trust me, I've been using it for a while now, and there is a noticable difference. Good luck!
  19. Last summer I bought a new pair of snippers for the garden. Sounds simple, but I love them! I also really enjoy mowing the grass on our John Deere rider. There's just something about the smell of freshly-mown grass! I put on the ear protection that plays tunes, make sure the kids are in the house with Dad and settle into the seat for over an hour's worth of time to myself! Ah, I can hardly wait til' spring.
  20. No one delivers to where we live, but we often do carry-out from a place called Jets. The kids love it! My personal favorite pizza place (where I often ordered from back when I was single and didn't need to think about what anyone else wanted!) is an Ann Arbor-based restaurant by the name of Cottage Inn. Growing up in Indiana, our favorite was always a place called Pizza King. Best little squares of pizza this side of the Mississippi!
  21. I grew up playing violin and french horn. I love music and always wanted to play electric guitar. So, nearly 18 years ago I bought a Fender (with a practice amp) and took lessons. It was great fun! Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, I didn't stick with it. Our son now has interest, and I told him that the guitar is his! He just turned 7 but can hardly wait to learn to play!
  22. Green olives and mushrooms are my top choices on a pizza. However, the 3 other voters in our home always pick pepperoni and bacon, so I've learned to like that combination! We've tried 1/2 my toppings and 1/2 theirs, but apparently the green olive juices seep over to the pepperoni and bacon side and "contaminate" their half.
  23. Awesome game!!!! Go Giants!!!! :D:D:D:D
