  1. dipping Try Gander Mountain. They do guns and barrels why not scopes. Good luck.
  2. 7 Rem Mag Try looking at the Federal Premium 140 TSX. I've had excellent luck with this bullet in a .270 . I personally prefer Fed Prem compared to Rem ammo. I find that it's more consistent for factory ammo. BTW you're gonna love the BAR compared to the remmy auto. I've had mine since 1996 and it has performed flawlessly. Have fun.
  3. Lapping Generally lapping is only done on fully rifled barrels. I do not believe you would see any difference by lapping a smooth bore. On the other hand, it could'nt hurt even if it is just to smooth out those scratches. Have fun.
  4. .300 Win:D Good choice. Rem SPS:rolleyes:..... It's not a bad choice but there are better shooters out there for the same price if not cheaper. I prefer Tikka......everyone has their own preference. Go out and "kick some tires" and find one that fits you best. As far as ammo........165-180g good luck.....
  5. lapping To answer your question........ yes, lapping is worth the time. It's tedious but worth it in the long run. Lapping is essentially polishing your rifled barrel. It helps to remove any residue or slight imperfections caused while your barrel is being made. It inherently gives you slightly more muzzle velocity and better accuracy.
  6. The only draw backs with the SX3 is that it only holds 4 lightfield slugs and the ventrib barrles shoot extremely high. Both my uncle and myself have had the same problem. Bar that.......... they are very pleasent to shoot.
  7. corrosion A couple of years ago I remember seeing the same thing on some of their stainless muzzleloaders. As I recall, TC replaced the barrels for the people that sent them back. Good luck.
  8. Does anyone know where I can obtain info on a Stevens Model 59A in a .410 gauge bolt action shotgun? I already checked Savages' website. Thanks.
  9. New gun To answer your question, I would opt for the Tikka T3. Nothing wrong with the Savage, I'm just partial to Tikka's. Pick each up and hold 'em. Flip a coin, it's a winner either way. Have fun................
  10. For grouping, try running a spit patch between shots to see if you can tighten up the groups. Let us know how it works for you. Good luck.
  11. nyhunter22 I hunt mostly 7M, 7J, and 6S.........
  12. 100g corelokts are good but my .243 liked the Federal Premium loaded with the 85g Barnes TSX bullet. But as others have said, let the gun do the talking. Good Luck.
  13. TC Triumph Good choice. With the 250 shockwaves, my Triumph likes 100g of Triple 7(pellets) with Remington clean bore primers. You get less of a crud ring with these primers. Good luck.
  14. 7mm-08 or .308 in a Tikka T3 you won't be dissapointed and it won't break the bank. Good luck from a fellow upstate ny'er.
  15. new muzzleloader take a look at TC's Triumph I saw one at Wally World black stock / blued barrel for $327. Like them better than my encore.
  16. New rifle Don't count the Tikka and Savage out. They are two of the best shooting rifles out there and cheaper than the above mentioned. It's all a matter of preference. Just go out and "kick some tires" until you find one that feels good. Good luck. BTW .270:D Good choice.................
  17. Bullet suggestions Try the Barnes TSX. A little pricey but well worth it. I've had excellect results in a .270 and I'm sure .30 would be no different. Good luck.
  18. Have seen that before with the winchester brass. I seem to get the best results with remington brass. Federal brass too soft.
  19. Shotgun only? In the past few years upstate ny has been allowing certain counties to be able to use rifles in previous shotgun only zones. Since this inception, there have been the safest hunting seasons in history. Fluke? I think not. You don't have as many IDIOTS out there trying to lob a slug at a deer at over 200yds. I'm sure there are many more reasons why but that one is the first in my head.Just my .02
  20. Tikka T3 ? Awesome firearm. Guaranteed accuracy. Great trigger. Would get rid of ALL my A-Bolts before my Tikka. My Tikka T3 in .270 consistently shoots .5 inch groups with factory ammo. With handloads........ 3/16 @ 100 yds. Need I say more...... Good Luck.
  21. .270 For what you have stated I would opt for the standard .270 Assuming that you will be using factory ammo, ammo availability is much better for the .270 (cheaper also) than the .270 wsm. Either caliber is a win/win situation. Good luck.
  22. bullets I have found Federal Premium ammunition to be money well spent. For factory ammunition, it's hard to beat.
  23. Bullet Try the Barnes TSX or the MRX. The TSX's are awesome out of my .270 . I've seen 165's and 180's in .300 Good luck.
  24. Encore Endeavor The Encore Endeavor has the same breech plug as the Triumph but with the adaptability of an Encore. Good Luck. By the way, my Triumph Shoots just as good as my Encore if not better.
