  1. Thanks. I found the arrow about 20 yards straight behind the turkey, pretty deep in the ground. It is still in good enough shape to shoot again!
  2. Thanks! I have to say, it's definitely the first time I've hunted in wind pants and a t-shirt!
  3. I was mowing Saturday morning, turned the mower off to fill it up and heard a tom gobbling just west of me. I grabbed my slate and my new bow and headed a little closer to where he was calling. I called for about 10-15 minutes and brought him in around 40 yards. I didnt range him because I was in too big of a hurry to get down there and left my rangefinder behind, so this was just by sight. I set my single pin sight at 35 yards, and put an arrow right through this toms head! I know it sounds like BS, but it really happened! Probably couldnt do it again, but gosh it was amazing! The arrow went straight thru his head and kept going so I thought I missed for a split second, then the bird just dropped! I will never forget this day as long as I live. Here are a couple pics...
  4. Thanks guys! I got to use the bow a little sooner than I thought on live game. I was mowing this morning, turned the mower off to fill it up and heard a tom gobbling just west of me. I grabbed my slate and my new bow and headed a little closer to where he was calling. I called for about 10 minutes and brought him in around 40 yards. I set my single pin sight at 35 yards, and put an arrow right through this toms head! I know it sounds like BS, but it really happened! Probably couldnt do it again, but gosh it was amazing! That bow is crazy fast. The arrow went straight thru his head and kept going so I thought I missed for a split second, then the bird just dropped! Here are a couple pics, thanks for all the replies!
  5. Hey guys, Just bought a slightly used 2009 Powerhawk. It is quite an upgrade over my old High Country Excaliber! This thing is amazing! It is set at 70lbs, which surprisingly feels like 60-65. The DL is perfect for me, and is also adjustable without a press. Came with a Ripcord rest, single pin adjustable sight, and a new release. I am kind of liking the single pin sight, but I don't know how practical it would be in hunting sutuations. It's nice just having a single crosshair to look at rather than multiple tiny pins. As for the Ripcord, I am now a fan for life! I have used an Octane Hostage for a few years and never thought much of the drop aways, but man it is sweet! This is the smoothest, quietest bow I have ever shot, I am really happy with it. I think my wife is even jealous of it now too;) Anyways, I wanted to get some opinions on what arrows to shoot out of it. I have always just bought the cheap carbon express stuff from Wally World during hunting season and they have worked just fine. But with this new bow, I want to shoot whatever would fly best, as far as weight, etc. Thanks!
  6. I don't think that is a bad idea at all. I sure would think twice about shooting a smaller buck when you only have one!
  7. I am just amazed about the one in the article that made it from South Dakota to Oklahoma! That is pretty surprising that they can travel that far without getting killed!
  8. No, it's not one of the goofy emails everyone gets. I can verify this one, the guy that submitted these pics is a customer of ours.
  9. Looking out our back door on Christmas Eve!
  10. I hope this isn't a repost! Pretty exciting and scary! http://www.newsok.com/trail-camera-snaps-a-big-cat/article/3429730?custom_click=lead_story_title
  11. Great review! I am glad you are enjoying the gun, they really are a well made firearm. I would have a hard time getting rid of my 742 for anything else!
  12. Check this out: http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93021
  13. I shoot an even older 742 model in .30-06 and use Remington Core-lokt 180 gr. ammo. If you keep that gun clean and feed it that ammo, you will never have a jam. Great buy on that gun!
  14. That is really something special, I would take out a loan if I had to to get a full body mount of him! Congrats on the deer of a lifetime!
  15. Great doe! I sure wasn't out in that stuff today!
  16. The IR4 is amazing! I have had mine out since Halloween with the same set of batteries. I bet it has taken close to 500 pics since then as well. I would highly recommend it, here are a few pics from it...
  17. Thanks alot. I appreciate that!
  18. Thanks for the congrats everyone! I am still so pumped about it, I don't know when I will go back to normal!!
  19. Yes sir. I pretty much hunt my backyard. We have 75 acres between my folks and I. My house is walking distance from my stand! Do you work close to Purcell?
  20. Well, I was fortunate enough to take this deer last Saturday night. I hunted the morning and saw a few smaller bucks chasing does and grunting, it was really entertaining but didn't result in a shooter coming in. I went back out in the afternoon and did not see anything until he stepped out close to 5:20. When he stepped out from the woods into the open, I instantly had a 30 yard shot so I drew back. About that time I hear something coming form behind me right towards the buck I've drawn on. I slowly turned my head behind me and saw a smaller buck coming in, so I slowly let back on the bow and waited for another shot. A few minutes later he turned, I drew and let it go at 35 yards. He bolted back into the woods, and I heard him stop not long after. By this time it was really close to being dark. I gave him 20 minutes and started to look for a blood trail. Trouble is, I can't find my arrow or a single drop of blood at the shooting spot! I know from the sound that I hit him good, but I was beginning to doubt my shot when I could not find any sign. After about 2 hours of flashlight searching I decided to call it a night and continue the next morning. One sleepless night later I went back out at sunrise to search again. And once again, I cannot find any evidence that I put a kill shot on this buck! I decided to quit looking for the arrow and go to a creek just west of where I shot. Walking up and down the creek, which is about 15' deep, i see a white spot on the other side. It was him, and it was his white neck that caught my eye! I had shot him a little further back and lower than I wanted but it did the trick. And the temp was cool enough that night that I went ahead and cleaned him up, I couldn't stand the thought of wasting meat! I am tickled to death with him and I am hooked on bow hunting for sure now! Thanks for reading! My little girl and I My little man!
  21. I also have to wait till the weekend! It is about to drive me crazy! I'm fine tuned and ready to go though!
  22. Thanks for the tips guys, i can't wait to get out there!
  23. Hello all, I am getting back into bow hunting this year after several years off. I have my bow sighted in very well on the ground, and I will be hunting from a 17 foot ladder stand this fall. I have already setup my stand, and I really dont want to practice from it, I am trying to stay away until season starts. So, all I have to shoot from while elevated is my little girls treehouse which is probably not even 10 feet off the ground. What do you guys do to simulate shooting from the stand? This will be my first stand hunt ever, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!
