You just get one week?!! How many birds are you allowed to take? Not much time to get it done if you have to work.

Obama should know all about a DICK ACT Im sure there is a reason it hasnt been brought up. Maybe it has been amended? They can amend acts years after they are passed and change the meaning, add or remove stuff, or anything. Someone should send a letter to someone in congress and bring this to their attention.

Thats cool. I used to have a deer stand down on the edge of a creek behind the house, and I would occasionally see mink working their way up and down the creek banks while I was hunting.
-
I agree, the Ruger 10/22 is a good option. I have had a couple Marlin 60s also, and they are good guns. Very accurate.
-
Yep thats a nice one. We saw several big ones when we were down there a few years ago. They just see so many people, they dont fear them. Pretty cool stuff.

I guarantee alcohol kills more children every year because of drunk driving than guns do. Never hear anything about any more restrictions on on alcohol do we? By the way, isnt drunk driving illegal? Thats really working out well. It is completely idiotic to think that gun restrictions will stop violent shootings. Just stupid.

I was thinking the same thing, the farthest pins might not be completely accurate depending on the arrow set up you are using. Cool idea though!

Like said above, the canines are tricky. I have trapped for 3 or 4 seasons and those coyotes are by far the toughest to catch. They are very smart and very wary. Coons can be easy if you have places with alot of them, and you use the right techniques. First you need to look into your state's laws on trapping and what traps and snares are legal. Here in KY we cannot use a trap with a jaw spread of more than 6 inches on land. I have used both the Victor and Duke #1.75 double coil spring traps for coyote and fox, and the #1.5 double coil springs for coon. Honestly I would like to use the #1.75s for coon and #2s for coyote and fox but I believe the jaw spread on the #2s is too much for KY. Snares are also a good way to catch canines. Trap preparation (dying, waxing, pan tension, swivels etc.) is important, you can find videos on how to this stuff on youtube. I would research as much as possible, there are whole books written on it. Its alot of work, and takes some time to learn the art of it. Im in no way an expert, but I had some avid trappers in my family to help teach me, which really helped.

Looks really good. I might have to buy some of the Extra Green for turkey hunting.

Sure I see the purpose in your situation, just dont see it being a big hit overall. -
.17 Winchester Super Mag Coming Soon

Isnt there already a .17 Hornet or something like that? I dont really see the need for another speedy varmint bullet. Already have the .17 hmr, .204 ruger, .223 and so on. I just cant see a strong market for another round like this, but I might be completely wrong. -
Most of the shows are horrible no doubt, and I cant stand watching them. The hunting personalities are fake in my opinion too, I dont like most of the big name "hunters" that are actually more like actors than anything. Midwest Whitetail with Bill Winke is about the only one I like to watch, mostly because it is actually educational and I can learn from it. He doesnt push the sponsorships too much either. I also buy any Knight & Hale hunting DVDs I can find. That right there is just a couple of good ol KY boys hunting stuff. You wont hear them talk about passing a 140 inch deer because its only 4.5 year old I guarantee that.

First and last post Im sure

Depends. I usually hunt with the old .308 win but this year I took out the Savage .270 every time. It shoots a little flatter, which is what I wanted hunting the other farm where long shots are more likely.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Now we all know what you do to stay awake during church, browsing the realtree forums LOL

Why not two guards instead of one? Hard to eliminate both I dont think anything is going to completely eliminate the problem. I dont care what laws and how many of them you implement, bad people are still going to kill other people. The best we can do is try to minimize the chances, and the best way to do that in my opinion is to have good guys with guns to shoot the bad guys with guns. This would include more people with CCW and hired security at places like schools, malls, etc. Banning ARs wont help, and Im not sure that putting a whole bunch of people in mental homes is going to accomplish much. Im not sold on the idea that all these mass shooters are mentally ill, some people are just evil, and no medication or treatment can fix that.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I really like the looks of the dpms and the smith&wesson looks good too. Just gotta find one, and decide if I wanna part with my Springfield for it. Yeah Db im trying to accumulate as many toys as I can while Im still free, and I plan to stay that way for a while LOL

Purpose will be plinking and home defense Its not that I have the funds really. Im probably going to sell a pistol that I bought new last year that I have barely shot to help buy the AR.
-
Because of recent events, it seems that AR rifles may not be available for purchase in the near future. I am thinking about buying one before I no longer can. Problem is, I know very little about them and really havent been around them much. What should I look for? What features are important? I may get a used one to lower the cost, so is there anything I should look out for there? Im looking at the Smith and Wesson M&P15 sport. I would really like to get the Colt m4 but I think thats going to be a little too pricey. I dont want to spend much over $700 for initial purchase, thats why Im looking to buy a used one. Any advice, suggestions, or recommendations are welcomed. I need to be educated.

If you want a hen decoy I would go with the cheap foam ones they have at walmart. They are like 10-12 bucks I think. They are not the most realistic decoy on the market but they work. If you want a strutter decoy then I like the PrettyBoy but they are a little pricey. Carry-LiteĀ® Pretty Boy Turkey Decoy Set | Bass Pro Shops A cheaper route is something like this- Cherokee Sports - Billy Bad Act II If your hunting on public land I would NOT use a gobbler decoy. I only use them on private land where I am the only one hunting. Even then, I use an old brown or black sock to pull down over the head of my PrettyBoy decoy when Im carrying it around. They are extremely realistic.

I have two ladder stands, and both were 15 feet to the seat when I bought them. Then I built a 4 foot extension for each one to add to the ladder. That extra height really makes a difference. If I cant go atleast 15 feet up, I feel like Im better off setting in a blind. However, the first doe I killed this year with my bow I shot from the ground without a blind. I sat on a log behind a wild rose bush on the edge of a cut corn field, and shot her at 25 yards. Im saying this to make the point that yes, as long as you have good cover you can get away with just about any height stand. To improve your odds though, above 14 foot is best. Have you looked into hang on stands? The basic ones from places like Sportsmansguide.com are not too pricey. I have a couple and I like them better than ladder stands. They are easier to put up and move around.

Do you have to have a decoy to kill a turkey? No Does a decoy make it easier to get a turkey within bow range? Yes Its up to you.
-
Use a large cutting diameter mechanical head. The fixed blade heads will zip right through the turkey, and alot times that bird will fly off which makes them extremely hard to find. I like using some type of strutting decoy, that really keeps their attention and you can get away with a little more movement. Place the decoys no more than 15 yards away. I have killed one turkey with a bow, and I shot another that got away ( that was the one that taught me a lesson about fixed blade heads). However, I have killed alot of turkeys with a gun, and alot of the same things apply regardless of the weapon you use. Setup your blind where birds naturally want to come to. Be willing to set in there for a while, I have killed more turkeys after 10 am than before. If you can see a bird has committed and is coming to you, dont call to him, that can cause them to hang up. Scout alot before season, know where the turkeys are roosting, where they like to go after flying down, and where they like to strut during the day.

I got pics of that droptine buck I was after this year in three different places, and two of the spots were a mile apart. This was before the rut really kicked in too. Id say roughly a 1 sq mile most of the year and then probably double that during the rut, depending on your deer density.
