  1. Glad to hear about your new purchase. You'll have to take care of it so your new addition can lay the smack down on some big bucks some day.
  2. First off welcome to the forums. Congratulations on a great looking buck there! His main beams are very impressive! I'd say he'll gross about 135 and net about 127.
  3. What time Muggs? I'll party with ya. I might be the only one there though.
  4. Glad to hear things are getting better! Prayers are the best thing for whatever ailes you.
  5. That's awesome Gary. If you think of that website let me know I'd like to do that and give it to my dad for fathers day this September.

    Andrea Scores !!!

She'll get the pics up. Congratulations Andrea!
  7. Welcome Warning: Posting here can get addictive! There are a lot of good people here, I think you'll like it. Although I listen to country now, I still love the heavy metal I grew up on.

Thanks Chris, I just stick to the forums and hadn't seen anything from him/her. Glad to know you admins are keeping the dirt out of our campfire.
  9. I didn't see the video, but I get the point. I'll go ahead and congratulate both David and Jeff, but they'll never know. As far as sugar coating videos I can see why producers do it even though I'd prefer to see the hunt as it actually unfolded. Capturing an animal suffer after a bad shot doesn't paint the hunter/sponsor in the picture they want to be painted in. It likely has to do with video sales and reputation.

Was this treehunter person a problem in the forums or chat? What exactly did this person do that got him/her banned? Also who is hakesain? (The same person as treehunter)?

    Why back in?!

I was going to write this but Chris beat me to it. I generally back into any spot that I think will have more traffic later in the day including a Cabela's parking lot. Time is another factor. On some mornings I work at Saint Louis Hospitals and park in parking garages. I generally get there early (5am) and have pleanty of time to back in a spot without the hastle of traffic waiting on me. Then as soon as I finish teaching clinical (around 1pm) I'm in a hurry to get to my truck, get home, and get my hunting gear and head to the woods before dark. If I had to back out I'd be more cautious and possibly get stuck waiting for more cars to go past me before backing out. I realize it may only save me a couple minutes, but when you're in a hurry to beat the sun every minute counts. In highschool myself and a couple others that had muscle cars always backed into spaces in the schools last row. I guess we thought that made us "COOL".
  12. Congratulations on your 3001 posts! Hope to make Monster Buck myself some day. Alright now someone please fill me in on the jokes about being a MORON? When did it start? Who first invented the term? Any other background info on being a Monster Buck Moron? >Frank
  13. The bad thing about re-finance is that since you've been paying your mortgage you've been primarily paying the interest with a little principle. As the years pass you pay less interest each month and more principle. Refinance starts over with more interest again. However, if I could refinance a 30 year fixed from 6.25 to 4.75 I'd do it. You could likely do a 20 year for even less. Your monthly payment might be a little more, but you'll save money by paying it off sooner. Know one knows exactly what will happen with rates, but I'd say it's likely they will go even lower over the next few months. With the economy things are a bit strange, but historicaly in April/May rates start going up again. I'm not an economist, but have followed the interest rates quite a bit and re-financed a couple times.

    First Deer

I missed posting in the thread several months ago asking for first deer pictures and stories. Here's my first from 1987 (I was 16) This is the only picture ever taken and I hadn't seen it since 1987. My mom found it a few months ago and gave it to me.Notice the hightop Reeboks and Levi coat. I was using a shotgun that had a slightly bent barrel. It shot 10 inches high:eek:. I aimed at the knees at 25 yards and got my first deer. Someone was walking into the woods and spooked this guy past me. We've had some new members so if you like lets see those first deer pictures and/or stories.
  15. Took advantage of being the only one in the office today and scanned some older pictures. Thought I'd post a few of my dad and his better moments over the years. Notice the buck in the first picture (2002) has a rare double white patch! We never realized it until looking at the pictures today. Pretty much made his day. The last 3 are of his biggest buck he took in 2000. I let him hunt in my tree stand that morning. At the time I had never shot a deer even close to that big and I was wishing I had hunted that stand. Now since he's getting older he doesn't hunt as hard or as long. That buck will likely be his biggest ever and now I'm really glad I let him hunt in my stand that morning. He sure looks happy. If you all have any pics of pop post away.
  16. I'd say overall I did alright. I only saw one mature buck the entire season that and I made the opportunity count. I sure would have liked to have seen more mature bucks. Bow: 2 does (one young and one mature) Shotgun: 1 buck (a 127 inch mature 8-point)
  17. Love those pictures Gary and as for you Luke, I've been meaning to tell you something... yes Luke, I am your father. I'd have to go with Obi-Wan Kenobi. He wupped up on Darth Maul and Darth Vader. He did let Vader win in the first movie that came out in the 70's but letting someone win doesn't count.
  18. Great shot there. Tell him to watch out for BLACK BART too. (From: A Christmas Story)
  19. For all the Star Wars buffs: Who is the greatest jedi or sith? Please explain why you think so? (Yea hunting season is over for me)
  20. I don't own anything that requires a helmet so I don't own one. Years ago when I rode a Ninja I would wear it on longer trips (1 or more hours), but not cruising around town. I was single, no kids, and if I died no one was left behind that needed or depended on me. Now I wouldn't even own a motorcycle until my kids are grown and yes I would always wear a helmet regardless of the trip length. I've picked out too much road gravel and seen too many head injuries in the ER.
  21. Good luck with the hospital issue and I hope you have a great semester. I teach an online pathophysiology course in an RN to BSN program and have had students from all over the country. Every one of my students work and most work full-time. A lot also have families to contend with. Every once in a while I find some that even find time to hunt. (They are always my A students of course). If you do decide on a BSN look around and see if you can find a program that fits you needs. There are a lot of them out there.
  22. I'll add that IL has a weekend late season antlerless only for firearm hunting. There is talk of making it 9 days next year.
  23. The buck 2.5. There were a couple does that looked older.
  24. I went from using a glove to this one. I've used it for 5 years and never had a problem: Works great with no gloves on or even my bulky sub-zero gloves. Ture-Fire Team Realtree: http://www.cabelas.com/link-12/product/0014578415476a.shtml
