    Coon #4 for the dog

Glad I'm not a mailman in your neighborhood!
  2. Last year something like that happened to me. I have permission to bow hunt a farm (not firearm). I bowhunted in October, then left for several weeks during the gun seasons. When I returned in December to continue bowhunting there were no tresspassing signs everywhere as well as chains over the entryways. I called the landowner immediately to discuss the issue. Apparently several hunters had rutted up his fields during the gun season and since he didn't know exactly who it was put the signs up for everyone. Well after speaking with him on the phone and even taking a trip out to his house I retained permission to bowhunt his farm. A result of that call:
  3. I voted yes. Here's what I wouldn't do: Last spring there was a dead deer near the highway in Idaho. There was a black bear hanging around feeding on it. A guy in camp encouraged me to hang out by the road and wait for the bear and shoot. Not sure what the regulations are, but it didn't matter because I didn't travel 1700 miles to shoot a bear from the highway.
  4. Great buys there. I love my 300 RUM. I placed a Nikon Buckmasters 3X9X40 scope on it and it performes great.
  5. Randy, Congratulations on a fine Kansas deer. I heard a lot of clicks and noise that caused the buck to look up at your set prior to your shot. Was it the camera equipment?
  6. That's what it is all about! Awesome!
  7. Yea the regular stop-in pro-staffers are great that's for sure. For you newer members we get some other experienced and well-known people within the hunting community you might recognize: Kandi Kisky, Vicki Ciancirulo and even Tink from Tink's 69 to name a few. I must say you can also get some valuable information from many other members who may not be so famous.

    Full body

Very nice. Seems like a reasonable price as well. Many taxidermists around here are at or near 500.00 just for a shoulder mount.
  9. My RT EZ hanger is difficult to get started into some trees here in IL. I'll bring a rubber mallet to get it started in new trees I'll be using throughout the season. I also use the mallet for screw in steps that I use with my climber once I reach the height I want to be at. I use the screw in steps to hang gear from and for a handle on windy days. Many times I just beat it with my palm until it bites.
  10. Very Nice. Congratulations and welcome!
  11. Bowtech,Glad to hear things worked out for ya. Great deer! I'd say 120 inches gross. The age is hard to tell from the pictures, but 2.5 or 3.5 seems right. Get the teeth aged and lety us know. I know that pictures (even antlers themselves) can be deceiving. Maybe he is closer to 130 inches??? My buck this year was heavy and wide (I thought he'd be 130's easy). I measured him at only 127 gross. Straightshooter,Congratulations to your brother on a nice deer as well.Looks like he's 3.5 years old and that he'll go about 110-115 inches. My 08 buck that I measured at 127 gross attached. What hurt was that the main beams were shorter than the spread.
  12. Many hunters wouldn't have put that much effort into tracking a doe. It's good to know there are ethical hunters out there. An ethical hunter (huntress) = an ethical nurse. Well done. Hey I just noticed I got some new head gear. I'm a 10-pointer now!
  13. Beautiful buck there. Going to mount him?
  14. I have never seen a deer with any white on it while in stand.
  15. I think someone (from the south, DEEP SOUTH) is keeping a "seat" warm just for him.
  16. Nice buck! What did he score before deductions?
  17. Yea, climbers are great! I shot a practice arrow at a leaf at the edge of a unharvested corn field. 30 minutes later here comes the combine. Well all I could do was watch (luckily the combine missed the arrow by inches). I didn't care so much about the arrow, but didn't want the farmer who gave me permission to hunt to get upset about it.
  18. Been there too. It's a bad feeling, but hey that's hunting and the important thing is that we learn from these types of situations. Glad you're not letting it get you down too much. Hey you never know. Maybe you will find it in the morning.

    Got His Moose.........

That gut is lucky his moose didn't fall off when he got hit.
  21. Honestly I do not believe it will keep deer from smelling human odor. Will it knock the scent down (probably somewhat). I use it in Oct. when I'm still highly motivated. By December I have stopped using it and just play the wind.
  22. Glad to see your uncle's persistence paying off big!
  23. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll go with the majority vote.
  24. Great buck. Looks like 250 lbs.?
