  1. Yea, at short range the shotgun is as effective as anything. Next time I go I'm leaving the firearms at home though. Ive got 3 with the rifle (300 ultra mag) and want to take one with my compound or crossbow.

    Caption This!!

does this hat make my gun look small?
  3. Can't wait to hear the story Tim. How many bears did you see and what day did you get this one (website says 5 day hunts)? How many pounds and what weapon? Stuff like that.
  4. hope you get a 500 pounder Tim
  5. In high school I had a 69 Ford Fairlane - three on the tree. Wasn't cool enough for me, so I bought a used transmission out of a Mustang Mach 1, cut a hole in the floorboard for the shifter and converted it to a 4 on the floor. I'd never try that with today's cars.

    Wake Up Obama!

My only advice is to support the NRA. The NRA is the only organization that we can count on to support the 2nd Amendment. Republican John McCain would have us in the same boat as Obama concerning gun control.

    bowstrings

I have had issues with peep rotation with Zebra strings. I will not use that brand any longer.
  8. Back in 1987 - I was 16 - notice the shoes!
  9. Seems like I had a couple records when I was in the 8-10 year old range (late 70's). The only one I can remember is Styx. Seems like it might have been the Grand Illusion. It was a gift because I didn't have any money until the 80's and at that time I was buying tapes. Never had an 8-track of my own.
  10. Gun ban B. C. failed John McCain voted with Obama! May as well forget about McCain's republican bid for 2016.

    It's official

That's awesome Steve! You're right - conservative professors are in the minority. Perhaps not here on the RT forums but just about every where else.

    Deer Mount

There would be a lot of things for me to consider before making that decision. How important is it to have a full mount vs Texas mount and how unique was the original cape? I prefer the original cape and would likely get a Texas (European) mount kit that comes with the skull instead of getting a different cape. I assume you only have the antlers and skull piece that connects them. Some taxidermists can make a fish mount from a picture. To me this is not the animal I caught and wouldn't want it. With a deer there is a decision each of us make where the mount is too much of a replication instead of a restoration. To me the cape is nearly as important as the antlers. Especially on one I took that has a double white patch under the chin. However, I'm not opposed to antler repair as long as it isn't replacing too much. Other people want the antlers exactly how it was harvested. Finding a spare cape is easy - if your taxidermist doesn't have one now, he will come fall. If you're okay with it, just put in a request. Many don't even charge extra.

    New Position for me

New Position for me That's great! Glad to hear you're group is supporting the NRA. In IL the IL-NRA has been advocating for crossbow inclusion in part of the general archery season - the IL Bowhunters group put up the biggest roadblock, but fortunately they were not successful.
  15. What happened to REALTREE FORUMS?? Mathews XT, college will expose a young mind to other views because all religious/political views must be allowed to have a voice in higher education (granted there is a proper place and time). It's the American way and even God Himself provides us with free will. I'm a professor at a university and vote republican (most of the time) attend a Lutheran church, I'm against abortion, and anti-gun legislation. I have 5 whitetails and two bears in my living room. When I teach I avoid indoctrination as any decent professor should do. I teach pharmacology and must address the drugs used for abortion. I present the facts, and allow debate, but avoid expressing my beliefs in the class. I was actually accused of being pro-abortion by a student and her father/priest (not exactly sure whom it was) because I taught students about abortion drugs. Sorry to get off topic.
  16. RT was the first public forum I joined. I would like to see more new people joining. The contests are always a draw for people. I don't post on turkey hunting because Turkey hunting (in IL) has lost it's luster for me. I didn't even get a tag this year. We have to draw for a resident tag and then if we get a tag we only have 5 days to hunt. We can also only hunt till 1pm. I have to drive 2.5 hours to get to public ground and hope for good weather on the day(s) I get to hunt. If thunderstorms move in then that's it - hunt is over.

    Can't wait!

Can't wait! Can't wait to see it Ruth! I know I love relaxing in my chair in the morning drinking coffee listening to the rain hit the roof and looking at my mounts and remembering my hunts.
  18. black bear hunt Been on a bear hunt in Canada with high promises and low realities. I went from holding out for a 300 pounder (first day) to shooting anything legal by the third. Never saw a bear after 5 days of hunting. Hope you fair better. Any legal bear is a trophy and even more so with a bow! Good luck

    HONK!!!!!!

Looks great! Love what you have done with the place.
  20. Who shoots a slug gun? I have an 870 Remington express - it has open sights and a rifled barrel - sabot copper solids shoot decent out to about 70 yards. The cost is about 3 dollars a shell which is crazy! I now use a ML most I the time - longer range and more accurate. I have a 20 gauge youth turkey gun - Remington 1100 for my 10 yr old son since the ML is too heavy for him to carry on long hikes. There is a rifled barrel available - Hastings I belie, but some crazy amount like 350.00. I bought a Remington smooth bore rifled sight barrel for 120.00 but haven't tried it out yet. Hope the much cheaper rifled slugs fly try.
  21. Congratulations! Ya know kids just keep us younger - longer!

    Rock Climbing

MUDRUNNER, if you live in Highland you're about 20 minutes from me. I climb at Upper Limits Rock climbing gym near Union Station in St Louis about once a week. It's a great work out and a lot of fun! If you would like to try it out send me a PM. I can get you in free if it's your first time. The first and second pictures are of the same wall - about 70 feet high. The third pic was only about 40 and the last was about 60 (it was a close-up). Been climbing a couple years now, and it still scares the stuffing out me every time! Makes you know you're alive!

    Rock Climbing

Steve, one year I had to tie a rope to a deer I shot and lower it down a cliff. Then climb down myself to finish dragging it out. Yesterday we actually had Thunder Snow! It has been about 20 years since we had thunder snow. Really weird. We also had about a foot of snow yesterday. This is my back yard this morning - Hard to believe that Saturday I was rock climbing in spring temps.
