  4. Yesterday, my grandpa killed a doe. When he got to the deer, he called me and told me he had shot a young doe. When we looked at the deer at the skinning rack, it looked like an older deer because of her head. When I cut through the milk sack, she did have milk in her, but the hide came off like a yearling's would. This deer was very skinny, and we cannot figure it out. The deer was the smaller of the two does at the food plot. Any thoughts?
  5. On opening morning of deer season this year i was hunting on a property line of planted pines and swamp, and the adjacent land was clearcut. At about 8:30 I looked out over the clearcut and saw a rack in a limb of an oak tree around 150 yards away. The buck was scraping. He ended up walking 50 yards out in front of me; a good 9 pointer. I was hoping and praying that the deer would cross the property line so I could shoot him. At one point, he gave me a would-have-been perfect shot but I witheld my temptation. The deer went back out the same place he came. 45 minutes later, a doe came trotting down the road in front of my stand, 10 yards away. I stopped her and had my 30-30 on her but decided not to shoot in hopes of killing a buck. 30 seconds behind her a buck was grunting with his nose to the ground. At 9 yards I stopped him and shot at his heart. He mule kicked and tore off into the swamp behind me, where he fell after 30 yards or so. He is my biggest buck to date and I appreciated the hunt with my Papa.
  6. Hey fellas. Got a question for you guys. Really trying to get a deer. I have been five times in a row and have not even seen a deer. I hunt in south Georgia and at the beginning of the season, the rut is in full swing (October 16th, this season). I have killed three does and a 6 point, but the meat was given to my Grandad. I am 14 and now I really need to kill a deer for my Papa becaus he doesn't have any meat. We just cannot see a deer. Around here, Thanksgiving is about the last chance to kill a good deer. Since I am trying to just shoot meat, should I climb over a food plot in the evening and see if I can kill a doe or hunt where I think a big buck is and take a chance at seeing nothing? Either way, I will end up climbing at the food plot. Just wondering if I should hunt there in the evening tomorrow or wait until Thanksgiving morning. Any advice would be appreciated.
  7. Heck, If he has a strong enough bow, a field point will kill them. I'd try hitting them with something first and only as a last resort shoot them. Gobblerroller
  8. Nice buck, Austin! I'm 13 and I killed my first whitetail last season. I know you're happy! Gobblerroller
  9. Well, today was the opening morning of gun season in Georgia. Last season, I bagged my first deer, a spike on opening morning. Later that evening, I killed my largest buck to date, a perfect six point. I recently moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I don't have anywhere to hunt. My school doesn't get a fall break, which I was going to use to go back to Georgia for the weekend. I'm hoping and praying that I'll be able to go next weekend. Gobblerroller

  13. Any of you guys out there know what deer you're after this season? I'm after a very old, big mature buck that was chasing a doe last year by my stand. Haven't gotten any photos yet but hopefully he'll show up. I'm pretty sure he's a wide ten. Show me the photos of the ones your after. Gobblerroller
  14. Approximately how far away was he? Gobblerroller
  15. I've never heard that but I will sure consider it. Gobblerroller

  17. Heck yeah! In fact, I'll get up early and go sit under a tree in our pecan orchards and wait for one to come scurrying along. We probably 20 or more every year. It's very fun. Gobblerroller
  18. Yep, it's a bobcat. The spots on its legs give it away. Gobblerroller

  21. I was just curious as to how many of you actually harvest does every season. I am always looking for a big buck but I sure don't mind putting some meat on the table. Gobblerroller
