My Archery buck taken Monday morning ahead of the rain/cold front he was working a fresh scrape line and was really "smellin rutty" bucks fixin to turn inside out here gun season in week and 1/2 should be a wild one. Not the biggest buck I've shot but the best with a bow and a nice solid mature 10 picture not very good but he has good mass to his main beams.

James Collins is one of my favorite bow hunting places hard to beat the size of property along with terrain just a little bit of everything and the way its layed out there is still places hardly ever if ever hunted. Lots of game. I like to go down between muzzleloader and gun season early November when there draw hunts aren't going on of corse. Seen some real nice bucks there over the years been a couple year since 2006 since I hunted it though. Glad you guys had a good hunt. Keep posted on when you head back that way.

Thank you for posting this we need to get the word out to all sportsmen. I took this thread and posted it on a couple other hunting sites to help spred the word in the hunting dog world. -

I like bowhunting because you get in the woods first and are open to more areas I have alot of places that I can bow hunt but not gun hunt. I personally have taken my best bucks with a muzzeloader but just something about bow huntin that brings out the hunter hunger lol.

I was wondering if anyone out there has tried Sportsmans Edge Vitamins and what the results were. I take a regular multi-vitamin but was thinking of switching to these at least around hunting season any little bit helps.

Good luck I always like hunting a new place for the first time just scouting it and learning the deer paterns and what all game is around just defines what hunting really is. Hope you bag a good one.

well yes and no as a coonhunter yeah I have had a couple dogs that would run deer but they got in bad trouble. But as far as the way you mean no and it is illegal in most states so be carefull.

I have seen and shot deer in a light rain this sometimes will really get the deer moveing especialy if its been dry but a hard down poor I would think they would tend to hole up in the thickets. This is just from my personal experence here in Oklahoma. One thing to keep in mind is trailing after the shot if you don't drop him or see or hear him fall could get hairy trailing him up. I know that alot of time after the rain a fairly active scrape is a good place to to hunt as he will be by to freshin it up of corse current phase of rutt has alot to do with this.
-
Shoot a couple does early to get the freezer full then look for the big buck hopefully take him with bow but my muzzle loader will be fine to of corse I will settle for the high power without argument LOL also wouldn't mind shooting a couple dozen coyotes with what ever I have handy
-
I have some friends with "coon pens" set up for same thing to train pups it is large area usually 2-20 acres some may have larger with fence coon proof or in your case rabbit proof more than likely the deer will be able to clear it with ease sounds like he has good food sorce in there for them and you just lucked into some good hunting.

I have used it off and on with over all good results when they hit it they hit it and there will be a hole in about 2-3weeks you can loose your truck hood some areas they just don't hit it well though I think the amount of minerals and if there are other supliments in the area play a big key in this. It says on bag clay soils work best but the best resluts I ever seen was on a sandy hill about 100 yards off a big sloughy creek bottom.
