There is one real big difference from the current time to 15 or 20 years ago... 15 and 20 + years ago, the schools actually held tryouts - if you were good enough, you made the team, if not, you got the axe...Now everyone makes the team, and if one kid doens't, his parents might take legal action... its a joke, and i commend all coaches for at least trying to help. dan

My sister in law works with Autistic children in New York, and she is currently attending one of the best schools in the nation for studying Autism. If you want, i'd be happy to either give you her email address, or ask her any questions you have directly. she is extremely good at what she does, and would be happy to help in any way. shoot me a pm if you are interested Willis. dan

What are your views on the civil war?
layin on the smackdown replied to Hunt or be Hunted's topic in Lounge
Well, Jeremy, I am by no means a self proclaimed history buff, but one thing i know for sure about the Civil War is that it wasnt very civil. :hammer1: now that is a very good useless piece of information. it sure sounds like you are well educated in this department, so i am going to continue to read and maybe learn a thing or two. dan -
Jeremy and Stinger, good points....but see post # 13 dan

Lets examine the word.... A "mistake" is something someone does (generally) that they didn't know was a "take" therefore being referred to as a mistake... has nothing to do with cheating or being unfaithful... As far as i know, there is no word for a "mischoice", because, as adults, we all know we have a choice, and our choice was to be faithful. So regardless of the circumstances at hand, cheating was a choice not a mistake, mistakes happen all the time - married people, brothers, sisters, friends everyone deals with mistakes, but cheating is a choice not a mistake...its a given moment when someone has the time to make a decision - and the decision that person makes is what determines being unfaithful or not...Cheating is not part of the question, but maybe part of the answer... just my opinion... I feel guilty when i can't take my lab goose hunting, but i know that he knows where i was at and what i was doing... that is cheating. dan

Sorry i couldnt post a pic of my last Euro...i swung by my brother in laws tonight and took this photo of the last one i did - too bad its 10 ft up on a beam. it looked alot nicer before it was stuck in to the shop...and im not too happy to see that the fan, beard spur mount i did is also in the barn...either way..

Well said William. I was pretty demoralized yesterday evening when i saw 5 different bucks of which all except one had both sides still on there heads - none of the five were close to mature either. On another note regarding bucks still rutting, i have video from Halloween of 2010 of a full blown spotted fawn - which is something you never ever see here in IL that late. She had to have been birthed sometime in late August which would have had her conceived in february or march (i think)...this poor thing was absolutely tiny. So i guess you never really know. dan

Incredible Civil War pictures found on old glass pic plates
layin on the smackdown replied to Adjam5's topic in Lounge
Wow Anthony - those are incredible as well as unbelievable. one of the last pictures is of a "fortunate survivor" of the Andersonville prison....i can't believe that guys is actually alive in that photo... Wow! thanks for sharing that, dan -
Im guessing thats gonna be in the runnings for a new Box Office record...He should have done the movie first and taken all the revenue generated from it and put it towards our national deficit.
-
Sorry about that - after i read my post a few times ,i noticed it may have come across a little rude...not what i was shooting for. Interesting however - I was unaware of those reactions when using peroxide...thats good information for sure. dan

I think they are both 1.5 year old deer. they both have stilts for legs, no chest, and no face. I think the pictures of the one that people think is older is a camera angle issue/pose issue - or im an idiot...i have no evidence from those pics to believe they are a year difference in age....JMO. (if anything, the first buck is older than the second) both have potential to be somebody, someday, God willing. dan.

Those look like "Woodbooger" dens!!! Awesome pics for sure...my comment regarding "woodbioogers" goes out the window as soon as the Amish wagon shows up... Great pictures and beautiful country out your way. thanks for sharing, dan

Take a look around and see if you can find any other rub lines/rubs from previous years in that area...If so, you can garauntee the bucks will be there again, and again, and again....problem is, what time are they cruising through? You may have just found yourself a gold mine...I'd put a camera there in late october next year and see what happens - along with telling the wife that the spiders are thicker than snot back there. dan

All i have to say is that, from a taxidermist point of view, there is really never "one correct way" to do anything, as alot of it is hands on and learn as you go, and with experience you will develope the "whatever works for you, works" which is a part of the art. I would not go the route mentioned above, not when i can do it the way i can with what i have and yield the same result... Frank, you done good - but im wondering why the snout or muzzle seperated so much - mine in the past with what i have done and used didn't seperate like that, and the more i read this thread, the more i wonder.... I think im gonna stick with my blend and go from there... Again, Frank, your Euro is sweeeeeeet, and the work you did with the antlers is tremendous - i commend you on that for sure!!! I was just commenting about the other pointers given on this thread. dan

Shaun - That is every bubbles worsed nightmare!!! But man am i envious of all those sheds! Looks pretty sweet! dan

They all hide amongst us..:ninja: :cool2: Good to see ya back on the board Willis!!! I was wondering where you strutted off to...Heck, im just glad to know your doing alright. I have no idea what you are referring to, and nor do i care as i am oblivious to whatever went on while i was gone. Good to see another familiar face on here, and keep posting. dan

I wouldnt have even felt guilty....Muuuuhahahahahahaha!

I was thinking the exact same thing...Wuss...he shouldve use some type of explosive - or at least a 12 gauge slug...that wouldve animated his seriousness and brought it to a whole nother level. either way, good for him. I just wonder how this is going to come back and bite him in the rear. dan

Im blaming it on the Phil the groundhog...i thought we were gonna slip through this last real month of winter with mild temps and head into March with warm spring days awaiting us...Didn't take long for that pipe dream to burst... Operation Groundhog Assassination has officially been launched :gun1: dan
-
Wow Steve, thats one heck of a generous offer...I'll be thinking about that for sure. still in awe by your generosity... thanks,

Ya Frank, the whole matching colors part of repairing antlers can be extremely tricky...I think you did a very good job on yours. As far as the 40 volume peroxide, where did you find it at? I couldnt find it anywhere, so when i did one about a year ago, i used a 50/50 bleach/water combo for three short soaking sessions, then let the sun do the rest - it turned out pretty good, but i was constantly worrying about the integrity of the skull after drying. So far so good, but for future reference, i'd like to get some of that 40 volume peroxide. thanks, and again, well done! dan

AMEN... Continued prayers for a speedy recovery. dan

What draw weight do you shoot with your hunting bow?
layin on the smackdown replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Bowhunting
I shoot a mathews switchback XT...got her set at 67#'s as we speak. I have never really messed with the weight - a few years back i was hovering around 62#'s and decided to go up 5 #'s for the heck of it, and havent gone back down. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... dan
