  1. Darn girl! Thats the biggest bobcat ive ever seen! Are ya sure its not a lynx? (mind you, as far as i know i have never seen one on the paw - just trail cam pics) gooooooood Work and congrats! dan
  2. I don't want anyone to take any kind of offense to this, but im curious as to where all the forum participation went... I know i haven't been around much in the last 1 1/2 years, but i had some personal and family issues to get ironed out, and now that they are, ive been spending more time on here again... Ive noticed that hardly any threads get 10 replies...a year or so ago, it wouldn't take half a day to get 10 replies to any given thread (i guess depending on the relevance of the thread), but now, ive gone through and noticed that most die quickly with less than a hand full of replies...Whats the deal? At first i thought maybe it was just me, or members on here just don't like my threads, and that may be true, but it is also evident that just about every other thread started in any given room gets 50 - 200 views and hardly any feedback/participation/replies. Any suggestions or am i just losing my mind? dan
  3. I don't know the jist of the story but i am going to go out on a limb here and say that the captain probably didn't intentionally run into the bridge due to a lack luster guesstimation...probably had a lot more to do with specs being wrong on paper work. don't know, didn't read it, just a thought.
  4. Thats the one i shoot, and i can tell you one thing for certain...you'll be splitting atoms at a 100 yds all day with a 295 grain bullet and 100 grains of powder (777 pellets). I havent practiced much beyond that, but if a shot presented itself at 150 yds, i wouldn't hesitate to aim high and squeeze one off. Great shooting, low to no recoil, consistent, affordable, and just plain fun to shoot. If i had a complaint about it, i would post it here. oh ya, it did take me a while to finally find a bullet /powder combo that performed consistently, and after trying 223 grain, 245 grain, 250 gran, 275 grain and 295 grain bullets with 100 grains of powder, it was extremely evident what works best with that rifle...295 grain powerbelt with 100 grains of 777 powder pellets. good luck in your search. dan
  5. I know from first hand experience that when spring turkey season comes around, so does everything that crawls, bites, stings and burrows... Down here in south central IL, the darn ticks, and turkey mites are out of control on those warm spring days - especially when you are chasing turkeys. What do you use or recommend using to keep those pests off of you? It just seems like there isn't enough deet in the world to keep them off of you. The only thing i know of and use is deep woods off with 40% deet, and you have to darn well bathe in it every hour- which gets expensive... any other product out there that you guys use or recommend? thanks, dan
  6. Nice work! Now I completely understand why your username is Stone Cold...:clown: im a little slow sometimes, but i finally made the connection. dan
  7. Is your keyboard locked? maybe try logging out then loggin back in??? I have no idea...Im ignorant when it comes to computers for the most part.
  8. Man that abnormally large spread must have gave them both a little more than i anticipated. Both deer have really wide inside spreads...Nice work XT man... thanks for posting those! dan
  9. On the way Chris...Hope its a clean one! dan
  10. This is a video i shot November 8th 2010 in East Central Illinois, and was originally 26 minutes long but i had to shorten it to put it on youtube. I waited to post it here because i had submitted it to North American White Tail and wanted to wait for it to air before putting it on youtube. It aired In August 2011, and i did get a muzzy moment for it... Anyhow, this buck came in around 4 pm, and at first i thought he was a possible shooter, but the longer he hung around the more i sized him up and finally concluded that he was a 3 1/2 year old and needed another year...After watching this a thousand times, i honestly think i may have videod a 2 1/2 year old with booner genetics. This was on the same farm i harvested the booner in my signiture... Check it out - he makes an intense rub on a tree the size of a two liter bottle...I never knew how much scent they put on rubs like that - pretty neat. let me know what you guys think his age was then, and what he may have scored. If he made it last year and makes it this year, i really think he'll be booner material. thanks, dan
  11. Well Johnboy, if you get a pack and try em out, let us know how the work for ya...I'm always up for trying new things.
  12. She is absoutely an inspiring example for all, young and old. My hats off to her and her family, she is a trooper without a doubt. dan
  13. i always thoroughly enjoy using the term "booger" regarding deer and turkeys "boogering" out of your set...or if you share a blind or stand with someone and they are careless with their scent control and they "booger" it up......and clearly i enjoy using any phrase with the word "smackdown" in it. oh...i also like to refer to any deer or turkey that is abnormally large as a "toad". dan
  14. Welcom to the forums! looks to be a decent racked deer - really hard to say anything else since all you can see is a partial of one side of his rack. Sounds like youve got yourself a nice little chunk of heaven to hunt on. I can't help with what to plant as i have no knowledge of texas agriculture other than it gets very very hot and very very dry. Im sure one of the other texas members on here will be chiming in soon and can help ya out. Good luck with everything! dan
  15. ogle county...I use to work for the Byron Forest Preserve District up there but i hated all the administrative crap that went with it...plus the people in that area were not very pleasant, so we decided to move back down south. www.byronforestpreserve.com pretty sure thats the link to the website. if you really have questions i can connect you with the Executive Director; hes a good dude, fellow hunter, and would be happy to help you with any questions you have. just let me know. dan
  16. Right on...this had to be the windiest deer season i have ever hunted. It seemed like every day was 25-30 mph winds. Not too sure about you guys, but when the wind is howling like that, and im in a tree looking down at all the dead fall, it doesn't take long to boogie out of the stand and get out of the woods. The wind definitely played a large role in this years season.
  17. Im always looking for sign, especially when shed hunting. At least i know what farms the birds are frequenting. I don't really start scouting for birds til a few days before the season. A few days before and the night before i hunt i will do a good amount of scouting to see where the birds are feeding throughout the day, and try and see where they are roosting at night. usually try and peg a bird the night before and put him to bed, then get after him at daylight. dan
  18. For me down in Marion County IL, it seemed to be a very weak and drug out rut...i hunted almost everyday of november and it never really clicked - even on those very cold mornings. It was kind of like a trickle rut, where it was hot and cold for a long time...I saw bucks chasing does all the way into the third week of december. I did pass on a quite a few immature bucks and let 2 borderline bucks walk. Was fortunate enough to harvest 5 does though - 4 with my bow and 1 with my smoke pole. I was also fortunate enough to get one of my brother in laws on his first deer...and one of my best friends came down to bow hunt for a few days and i got him on a big fat doe...pretty eventful season. the highlite of my season however, was getting my other brother in law on his only deer with his bow 3 weeks after he was diagnosed with brain cancer and had a brain tumor removed...that really helped raise his spirits...Found out two weeks later that he will make a full recovery and that the cancer is totally treatable and should not return due to a gene called IP19Q or something like that...Definitely blessed here. dan
  19. prayers comin your way Steve...Stay strong and stay positive. dan
