most of my bores used dyna tek bore coat which is a ceramic coating inside the bore. Prevents rust - corrosion and makes clean up easier. The guns that do not have this, get montana xtreme conditioner. I am not to big on oil but the Montana stuff has done a good job. Bore butter - seasoning patches are a waste of money. I will never go that route ever again.

Whats the deal?
FrontierGander replied to layin on the smackdown's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
ok, you shoot like a rabbit on crack with the gun off a rest but cant hit a barn while off hand shooting.... Whats the problem? You just answered it yourself. Its not the gun, its your lack of off hand shooting skills. How do we improve on that? Practice. -
Just so you all know. New Mexico has changed the rule and will be sending out a correction. They've already changed it on their website. Blackhorn209 IS legal in New Mexico.

are these the older style optimas? My old optima loved 90gr Pyrodex P with a 348gr Powerbelt. 3 shots at 100 you could cover with a nickel. When you load up with your current set up, what do you do for the second shot? What primers are you using?

if you havent taken it apart and cleaned it, get to it! No need for it to sit on the floor while it needs all the packing grease and such cleaned out.

Optima - White Hots - 300gr Thor
FrontierGander replied to FrontierGander's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
the kleanbores are pretty good primers, i used them years ago in an old Winchester bolt action muzzle loader. They are low power primers. I actually will pick some up the next time at a sporting goods store and give them a try with the t7 magnums. Do you get a crud ring where you have to swab after each shot? This is one thing that i hate doing -
Hunter109, thats good that you know what your comfort zone is and that you wont shoot over that. I give you a pat on the back for that. Some just throw that rifle to the shoulder, aim at the stars and jerk that trigger back. You stay in the range that you're comfortable with and just keep of practicing at longer distances off hand until you are in your comfort zone.

Optima - White Hots - 300gr Thor
FrontierGander replied to FrontierGander's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
100 yards. those cci 209m's just are not the primer to use with pellets, way to hot. The crud ring i was getting with the T7's was by far the worse ive ever got in a rifle. -
Optima - White Hots - 300gr Thor
FrontierGander replied to FrontierGander's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Actually the primers cause pure **** on accuracy and crud rings. The full power primers can cause horrible accuracy and not to mention the crud ring. I did some shooting today with the white hots and cci 209m primers. I think 6" 3 shot group was the best i could pull off. I did pull a 14" group with the T7 magnum pellets though! And here i was all upset over the 6" group LOL. Primers, they DO make a difference. The White Hots do clean up a lot easier, the fouling seems softer and when you push a damp patch down the bore, you push out greyish/white fouling. -
an awesome rifle. mine loves powerbelts 245-295-300-338-348gr. It does does awesome with the thor conicals. Blackhorn friendly, smooth crisp trigger. Its not a very picky rifle when it comes to shooting conicals. Sabots, i've only tried a few here and there but i can highly recommend the 250gr slick load sabots.

The new model wolf is a darn good looking rifle. As well as the new Optima.

hodgdon doesnt recommend going over 100gr worth of pellets. gun makers are pushing these kind of loads and they are not needed. American Pioneer when i was speaking with them just laughed at the 150gr deal and said, Well, if people want to buy it and shoot it, we'll sell it to them but everyone here that hunts uses no more than 100 grains.

yep, the open sights will go back on soon though as we're required to use open sights during muzzleloader season. -
Optima - White Hots - 300gr Thor
FrontierGander replied to FrontierGander's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
I dont have much experience with them yet but so far so good! I need to find the lower temp muzzleloader primers as the W209's i am using now do leave a crud ring. Its a soft crud ring that you can easily push through but its still there. -
Got a bunch of 250 ballistic tips and 300gr HP Thor's in today and so i figured since the Optima was scoped, i'd load up 100gr of White Hots and the 300gr Thor. Started off at 50 yards and took 3 shots to get the scope zeroed in 1 1/2" high @ 50 and then took the rifle inside to swab out. 2 windex patches and i was finished cleaning. Loaded up my gear onto the ATV and set up a fresh target at 100 yards. A few inches to the left but center. I pulled shot #2 which was my fault due to me keeping my hand on the adjustment bar on the lead sled Shots 1 and 3 are touching. They look good together i think, Pellet fits right into the Thors hollow base,

New ML...or update the one I have?
FrontierGander replied to Michiganbowhunter_SQ2's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
I wouldnt bother with the pro hunter stock. I'd invest in the laminated stock as its a much sturdier set up. New barrel? Bergara makes after market barrels for them and from what i read on www.bellmtcs.com Its best to just buy the frame and stock for an Encore and then buy the Bergara barrel for it. -
Got this in last week and what a nice looking and feeling muzzleloader! Accura V2 has the quick release breech plug, touch soft stock and rubber grip panels for a better hold. I didnt think to much about the rubber when i first read about the V2 but after holding it when it came in, i was pretty amazed at how well it felt. Very solid rifle I didnt know about this either! Its not listed on their website. The V2 now comes with a User Adjustable trigger! Screw it in to add weight or back it out all of the way for about a 2.5lb trigger pull. Maybe less than 2 1/2lbs, i dont have a scale to measure it yet. Once i get bullets, i'll take her out shooting and see how she does.

randy wakeman uses scare tactics. CVA is as safe to shoot as any other muzzleloader out there. Ask Toby Bridges about the Savage muzzleloaders blowing up, then email randy and he'll give you a story to protect savage. As of right now TC has the most lawsuits against gun failures than cva, tradtions, knight. Randy also will not touch CVA's new Bergara Barrels due to the fact that they are the highest quality barrel put on a muzzleloader today. He talks a lot of trash but when you call him out.... Prepare for a nail scratching and ear full from him. Love the New Optima! Trigger is sweet as well as the new break action button. I never really cared for the original optima's lever. This QRBP is really nice as well and super clean. 100gr BH209 - 245gr Powerbelts @ 100 yards.
