My cousin said to get a cattle feeder, fill it up with corn and hang twine or something above the corn to snare bucks antlers during prime shedding season to pull the antlers off. Just wondering if anyone had tried it in the past? Much like corn can be placed under logs so when deer reach under it jars them lose.
Could somebody suggest a starter kit for a deer shoulder mount? I have a deer in the freezer that needs mounted and would rather learn how to mount something than spend 300+ dollers getting it done.
I have a good background in fur handling/skinning due to trapping and deer skinning during deer season. Plenty of time and patience. So i know all that kind of stuff and it doesnt gross me out.
Any pointers would also be appreciated.
thanks
nick
Dad called me at school and told me to get home because they had him spotted. he was laying bedded with the wind in my favor, a 20 min. stalk got me within 15 yards and i arrowed him in his bed.
any thoughts on score? nontypical, he has a droptine below left ear.
small drop tine about 1.5 inches long
15 pointer yesterday, hes a FREAK! old heavy buck, ill get pics up sometime. hes at the taxidermist so i only have pics of the antlers. not a closeup of the tag, i have the bottom part of the tag yet thiough
Shot a big buck tonight, at 20-25 yards quartering away a little. Shot him, heard a crunch as the Rage hit him. He ran away with the arrow still stuck in him. The arrow wasnt very far in him though. thought i saw him stumbling as he ran away back through the forest. Looked around for blood, NOTHING! didn't look too hard though. We heard him in the corn feild take a few leaps then stop. Gonna go out in the morning and look. I think hes a 6x5 or 5x4 and real tall. Not real wide though.
Do deer shot through the shoulder blade usually mean a kill shot? Im shooting about 65# Maxima hunter arrows with a Rage head.
he didnt seem too spooked, i was wearing my ghillie suit so he probably only saw movement cuz i was crouching down. and if i was a buck i wouldnt go too far from them apples.
saw a big un tonight, he bolted while i was drawing, i missed a monster a year ago tomorrow, so im out to redeem myself. got that ones rubline bedding area all mapped out cuz hes bedded by an apple tree, he has double brow tines so hes a 6x6.
was lookin at a rub on a tree when i looked up to see a massive set of antlers headed my way, I saw the same buck last night when i was headed out on the 4 wheeler just down from where i saw him tonight. he was headed directly at me when he got away from behind a tree nd he stopped and looked right at me. so i drew thinking it was now or never and he immediately bolted,
my Q is since i found his rub line, and know the general direction where he is bedded at near an apple tree. is that going to be a good spot to hunt the next few days? or should i leave it alone for a little bit since i bumped him?
on my martin firecat the rubber string stopper keeps flying off after i shoot it, every shot, and it throws off the shot usually, and its the only complaint with the bow that its not anchored on solid. so how do you take it off? or does it even come out? (the metal rod that the rubber stopper comes out on)
i have a metal detector and it saved me countless dollers while i was shooting aluminum arrows, cant say the same for carbon because it would only pick up the feild point. ur broadhead is probably on top of the ground after the deer broke it off so just keep following the trail ur deer made.
