  1. Re: Police encounter with hunter leads to ........ [ QUOTE ] I'm sure if you really have 16 years of law enforcement experience, you have been in situations where you have not had "all" the information as to why someone is doing something, or what the intentions of that armed individual may be. [/ QUOTE ] More than a few times. The sixteen years I spent in law enforcement before my career-ending injury was as a Game and Fish Enforcement Officer. EVERYBODY I approached in the field from September through the end of April was armed. In the summer months, that dropped to a mere 75%. You guys have watched WAY too much TV. Armed does not necessarily mean dangerous, except to left-wing liberals and other lower forms of life !!!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY with a bow. Has this officer NEVER had a lesson in field tactics and officer survival? Could he not have approached from an angle that would make it difficult for the hunter (??suspect??) to gain an advantage over him? Could he not have asked from cover for the man to identify himself and state his business? Could he not have shown a little courtesy? If I had EVER approached someone the way the original story described, I would have been fired, and justifiably so. [ QUOTE ] Police spokesman Lt. Sean Cooney said the incident report states Coppola's gun was drawn, but it reads as if it was never pointed at Roddy. [/ QUOTE ] I have seen other officers who knew they were wrong use that type of wording. Not saying that this officer is, but ........ [ QUOTE ] Cooney said Roddy threatened the officer. Coppola wrote in his report that Roddy said he could have "picked off" the officer as he approached. [/ QUOTE ] Or maybe the officer, after screwing up his approach, and realizing he COULD have been picked off, projected that thought onto the one who MIGHT just get him fired for his screw up.. [ QUOTE ] "That's a very odd statement to make, to say, 'I could have easily shot you as you walked up,' " Cooney said. "What a bizarre thing to say. What other way is there to interpret that?" [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, a guy with a BOW is going to say that to a guy in uniform, who he knows has a gun?!?!?! Roddy denies saying that and contacted the police department's internal affairs division when he read the report. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Roddy said the city agreed to pay for the bow repairs if he signed an agreement stating he would not sue [/ QUOTE ] I know THAT tactic well. When they KNOW they would get burned for a LOT more, if this got in front of a jury. But they also know that most ordinary citizens don't have the resources to pursue a lawsuit against a branch of government. Doubt that a HUNTER would get any help from the ACLU!!!! So they offer a settlement to get the problem to go away. [ QUOTE ] Police Capt. Richard Conklin, who teaches hunting laws to city officers, said it's common for North Stamford residents to report hunters in the woods with weapons. [/ QUOTE ] Did this guy cut class, or sleep through it? [ QUOTE ] "We can't enter a home without a search warrant, but we can certainly go in a back yard if we have a report of a man with a gun in her back yard," Cooney said. [/ QUOTE ] What the he!! would be wrong with knocking on the dad-gum DOOR!?!?!?! Gonna have to disagree with mallard -drake-85 and buckee on this.... [ QUOTE ] im gonna respond from the POV of a police officer as stated before, when we recieve a call like that we have to respond expecting the worst. we are trained that way. [/ QUOTE ] WRONG!! Expect a POSITIVE citizen/leo contact and a good ending, but be PREPARED for the worst, so you can handle whatever comes!!!!! I am familiar with the situation, and have seen other officers involved in similar ones. Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying unequivocally that this officer was in the wrong. But, judging ONLY from the information posted so far, it appears to me that he is.

  6. This was forwarded to me by my brother. I checked it out myself. It is legit!!! I edited Capt. Hunt's e-mail address to protect his privacy and added the color to emphasize what the media will NOT tell you. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Hi everyone. I'm still alive but freezing my tail off. We got 8 inches of snow last week and it reached 5 degrees below zero that night. That's not why I'm e-mailing though. You may have heard about a suicide car bomb attack in Kabul last Thursday. It was at one of our FOB's (Forward Observation Bases) about 27 miles from here. But the real story is why no one was killed. We employ several thousand Afghans on our various bases. Not to mention the economy that is fed by the money these locals are making. Some are laborers and builders, but some are skilled workers. We even have one Afghan that just became OSHA qualified, the first ever. Some are skilled HVAC workers. Anyway, there is this one Afghan that we call Rambo. We have actually given him a couple of sets of the new ACU uniforms (the new Army digital camouflage) with the name tag RAMBO on it. His entire family was killed by the Taliban and his home was where our base currently resides. So this guy really had nowhere else to go. He has reached such a level of trust with US Forces that his job is to stand at the front gate and basically be the first security screening. Since he can't have a weapon, he found a big red pipe. So he stands there at the front gate in his US Army ACU uniform with his red pipe. If a vehicle approaches the gate too fast or fails to stop he slams his pipe down on their hood. Then once the gate is lifted the vehicle moves on the 2nd gate where the US Army MP's are. So he's like the first line of defense. Last Thursday at 0930 hrs a Toyota Corolla packed with explosives and some jerk that thinks he has 72 Virgins waiting for him approached the gate. When he saw Rambo he must have recognized him and knew the gig was up. But he needed to get to that 2nd gate to detonate and take American lives. So he slams his foot on the gas which almost causes the metal gate to go up but mostly catches on the now broken windshield. Rambo fearlessly ran to the vehicle, reached thru the window and jerked the suicide bomber out of the vehicle before he could detonate and commenced to putting some red pipe to his Heathen butt. He detained the guy until the MP got there. The vehicle only exploded when they tried to push it off base with a robot but no one was hurt. I'm still waiting for someone to give this guy a medal or something. Nothing less than instant US citizenship or something. A hat was passed around and a lot of money was given to him in thanks by both soldiers and civilians that are working over here. I guess I just wanted to share this because I want people to know that it's working over here. They have tasted freedom. This makes it worth it to me! JOHN W. HUNT, CPT , US ARMY [email protected] Operations Officer Bagram Afghanistan Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Caveats: NONe XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  7. ISRA: Sen. Kotowski's Fib Highlights Gun Control Movement's Credibility Gap Wed Mar 28, 6:59 PM ET To: STATE EDITORS Contact: Richard Pearson of the Illinois State Rifle Association, +1- 815-635-3198 SPRINGFIELD, Ill., March 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA): A prominent Illinois gun control advocate found himself tongue-tied after he was caught telling something other than the truth about a popular brand of target rifles. The gaffe came during a Wednesday press conference hosted by Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-33) in support of several gun control bills. In his address, Kotowski pointed to a rifle staged as a prop for the event and described it as being a "military" weapon. What Kotowski did not know was that Mr. Mark Westrom, President of Armalite, Incorporated, was in the audience. Mr. Westrom rose to inform the attendees that his company manufactured the rifle in question, and that his company has never sold the rifle to the military. Westrom continued by pointing out that the rifle is purchased primarily by civilian target shooters. Westrom's revelation changed the course of the press conference, to say the least. Kotowski's bending of the truth was yet another example of the lengths to which the Illinois gun control movement will go in order to move their anti- gun agenda forward. "When Dan Kotowski was the director of the state's gun control lobby, he was expected to play fast and loose with the truth," commented ISRA Executive Director, Richard Pearson. "But, now that he's a State Senator, he has to understand that his constituency expects him to be honest about the issues of the day." "I understand Dan's reluctance to stick to the truth," continued Pearson. "It sure would be tough for Kotowski to stand there and tell the taxpayers that he wants to spend $300 million to register guns owned by law-abiding citizens while ignoring notorious gun runners like Carail Weeks. It would be tough for Kotowski to stand in front of the state's hunters and tell them that he wants to take their guns away, despite the fact that 88% of murderers have previous criminal records and cannot even legally possess a firearm. It would be tough for Kotowski to stand there and tell law-abiding target shooters that their target rifles are a 'problem' even though he knows darn well almost half the murders committed in Chicago arise out of drug and/or gang activity. Indeed, the truth would be painful for Kotowski to tell. That's why he makes stuff up to tell folks who don't know any better." "Here is one truth that Sen. Kotowski will come to understand," said Pearson. "I can guarantee him that the gun owners of this state are not going to let him misrepresent the facts unchallenged. We will confront him every time he steps out of line. Dan Kotowski will get no rest as long as he continues to advance his campaign of deception against the state's law-abiding firearm owners." The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. Since 1903, the ISRA has represented the interests of over 1.5 million law-abiding Illinois firearm owners SOURCE Illinois State Rifle Association Wouldn't you LOVE to see the video of THAT press conference!?!?! I'll bet it NEVER sees the public airwaves !!!!
  8. Re: need help finding the right scope bases The base doesn't rise. A standard Weaver-type base STRAIGHT, but the Encore barrel tapers. This leaves a gap under the front end of the base. Absolutely normal for the Encore.
  9. Re: 22 Shells not Bullets I think WestKyTeacher is referring to .22 rimfire SHOT loads. They won't do any permanent damage to your gun, but don't expect much from them. MAY kill a snake at 15 feet, but I wouldn't try to get much more out of them than that. Your bore should be cleaned before shooting them, and MUST be cleaned after shooting them and before going back to regular bulleted ammo, if you expect anything CLOSE to accuracy.
  10. Re: Rosie Defending Terrorists??????? [ QUOTE ] i say write the show, the sponsors, and don't watch. [/ QUOTE ] How will you know who to write?

  13. Re: Jim Zumbo to appear on TV soon He messed up. He got WHIPPED for it, BADLY. He got exactly what he deserved. But, who among us has NEVER needed a second chance? I have needed that grace MANY times. I think we should get off him for a while, and just see if he can pull his own chestnuts out of the fire. If he can, then we should CAUTIOUSLY accept him back into the shooting brotherhood. If he can't, let's let him just fade away, rather than beating a dead horse into puddin' !!! "He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone."
  14. Re: Rosie Defending Terrorists??????? [ QUOTE ] we can write letters, file complaints and threaten to avoid certain programming or sponsors product, in the end this does no good [/ QUOTE ] I think you are wrong Michael. What about the Dixie Chicks? And the recent Jim Zumbo debacle is further proof that a group of people acting in concert CAN get things done!!! Outdoor Life is owned by the waaaay left-leaning Times-Mirror Corporation (The New York Times is their flagship publication). The decision of Outdoor life to fire Zumbo was brought about by the overwhelming numbers of negative responses to Zumbo's blog, and the results were nearly INSTANT!! I found the public outcry absolutely AMAZING, not only in it's immediacy, but by the depth and breadth of the reaction. The numbers were HUGE!! Then his other sponsors also quickly got the message. This same response needs to occur EVERY time some slimy "Hollywood type" or opportunistic, sound-bite politician slanders law-abiding gun owners. If we can go after one of our own like we did Zumbo, surely we can spare a little time to kick Rosie O'Doughnut off the TV and and cause actors like Richard Dean Anderson and Alec Baldwin seek a new profession!!!
  15. Re: Rosie Defending Terrorists??????? And just exactly what constructive action do you take once you have researched and obtained that information? You seem to advocate IGNORING the problems, and HOPING that they go away!!! If you find what they say on the internet, you have made a click on the hit counter for the page on which it appears. The owners of the site get paid advertisers based on the number of hits the page recieves. They then have to pay the providers of the content of their page. So, if a site carries a clip of Rosie O'Dognel, and you access that site to see what she had to say, the owner of that site gets money from those whoi advertise there, and in turn has to send part of that money to ABC for allowing him to show the copyrighted clip. And ABC pays Rosie' salary with it's earnings. So, by researching on the web, you have PUT MONEY IN HER POCKET!!! But if youwatch the idiots on network broadcast television, and complain to the sponsors of the show, you may cost them money. Or you may actually have an impact on what is shown on TV in the future!
  16. Re: Rosie Defending Terrorists??????? Disconnecting your family from what is being done around the world (or at least what is being reported) will not solve anything. BUT, there is something you CAN do..... Give her the Zumbo treatment!! Watch her show. Make careful notes of each advertiser. Then contact the network, the local affiliate station and all the advertisers, and let them know your opinion of what is being said. Refuse to do business with the advertisers, and STICK TO IT !!! When you do business with a competitor, send a copy of the receipt to the advertiser on the offensive show, along with a letter of explanation. Some will care, some won't. If enough of us do it, we can stop the propaganda bullshot!!

    The Big D...

Re: The Big D... BEEN THERE, DONE THAT !!! When experience teaches lessons, you only need to sit through the class ONCE!! LISTEN to Newarcher and do what he said, and make danm sure all of that is in the divorce decree, in case she has opened accounts that you don't know about. EXPERIENCE is a HARD teacher!! And if she "loves you like a brother", you can be danm sure that she is loving SOMEBODY like a husband!! You need to find out who, and you need to find that out YESTERDAY !!!!

    POACHERS!

Re: POACHERS! [ QUOTE ] if it's not your property then it's not your problem [/ QUOTE ] WRONG!!!! "The only thing needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." [ QUOTE ] Get used to poachers, because if you don't stop them now, on your neighbor's land, they WILL be on your land soon. They will figure that if you stand by and do nothing now, you will do the same when they are on your land........ [/ QUOTE ]

    POACHERS!

Re: POACHERS! [ QUOTE ] By publicity, is I dont want too much attention to my place , I dont want dnr walking around there...... [/ QUOTE ] As a former G&F Enforcement Officer, these are the questions that immediately jump to mind -- What do you have to hide? Illegal baiting? Illegal Trapping? Dope? Worse? Deer season is long over. You can't be worried about the officers ruining your deer hunting unless you yourself are hunting out of season. Why are your tracks on your neighbor's property? What were you doing there? Did you have permission to be doing it? Your wording makes it seem like you didn't. Are you hesitant because you don't want to get another neighbor (friend) p/o'ed at you? I say another neighbor, as it seems that the shooter knows of the absentee landowner situation. Must be someone close. You probably know or at least strongly suspect, the identity of the shooter already. These are NOT accusations, but simply the questions an officer MUST ask himself EVERY time he goes into a situation attempting to locate someone who is armed, possibly already violating the law, probably totally camouflaged and hiding, and who may resist being apprehended. You have three choices here. 1. Get used to poachers, because if you don't stop them now, on your neighbor's land, they WILL be on your land soon. They will figure that if you stand by and do nothing now, you will do the same when they are on your land, especially if you know them. And if you DO say something to them, they will throw the fact that you were on the neighbor's property also in your face. 2. Do something about it yourself. Get your neighbor's consent to be overseer for his property, catch and identify the poacher yourself (or maybe it's just a target-practicing trespasser) and sign a warrant for his arrest. 2.Call the people who are trained to handle it, and give them ALL the information concerning the situation, so they can do their jobs.
  21. Re: Swipe the bacon...... Sorry, low-life scum Star-Tribune!!! At 2:00 this afternoon, there were 13 PAGES of replies on the topic, running about 10 or 15 to 1 AGAINST the Mooslum foolishness! Now they have cut it to three pages, and the editing was VERY selective, to make the for/against a MUCH closer ratio !!

  23. Re: Girl Scout Cookies!!! Click this link to read a news article [ QUOTE ] Officials at the Girl Scouts' New York headquarters did not return repeated calls. But in a September 16 letter to PETA, spokeswoman Courtney Shore said the organization does not promote trapping or hunting and does not offer merit badges for those activities. [/ QUOTE ] I find it quite telling that the G.S. headquarters would not respond to a news agency which gave what I thought to be positive coverage, but chose to go on the record, in writing, for PETA. I am still trying to get in touch with the person who planned the benefit shoot and was threatened with a lawsuit. I will post his response ASAP. Meanwhile, no G.S. cookies allowed in my house.

  25. Re: Gun Control in D.C. Heard it on Rush Limbaugh minutes after it happened!! This could be the best thing that ever happened to this country, or it could be the WORST. This was from a panel of only 3 of the twelve judges in the D.C, District. The case will most assuredly be appealed to be heard en banc by the full Court. If the full court upholds the panel's ruling, it will certainly be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, as this is in direct conflict with a ruling by the asinine and idiotic Ninth Circuit in California. If the Supreme Court even agrees to hear the case (not likely before next year's elections) and actually upholds the D.C. ruling, WOO-HOOOOOOoooooo!!!!!! Happy days are here again !!! But there are MANY ways foir this to be sidetracked before getting there, and you can believe the Democrats will pull out ALL the stops to win this one !!!
