I am a good 30-40 yards on MY property, but I can see the fence between ours and the neighbors. Now, in the past, we've had a couple problems with the neighbor on our property. So I'm walking along with my bow, because this same group of deer walk through by this one stand at about 2-2:30 every day. I am about 15 yards from my stand, and to my left (towards the neighbors property, I hear "CRUNCH CRUNCH CRCUNH!!!!!" and leaves breaking and crunching like crazy. I look that way just in time, to see the neighbor come flying at me like a linebacker, wrap me up as he screams "You're on my property you son of a....!!!!!", and send him, me, AND my bow alld own the hill. Now besides that, I had my buck knife and a hand gun (that I use for coyotes when bow hunting.) We get to the bottom of the gulley, I'm bleeding, and I am like, "I am NOT on your property you dumb a........ Your property is over there, and I could see your fence line. I was on mine, so now, you've got 10 seconds to get off before I call the cops, my uncles, and my dad." Then he goes, "Sorry man, it looked like you were on my property." Now, the bad part: I look over, my stabalizer is snapped in half, my sights are off...by a lot, one of my cams is bent, and my string has got a little cut in it, but had not torn yet. Long story short, I told him to pay me or I was gonna call the cops and make SURE he stayed there until they got there. He got out his walket, gave me $175 and we went out seperate ways. It was pretty funny when my uncles and dad found out though, because they went over there and were chewing him out and "If you ever touch him again...." and all that stuff. If I were your Dad, I would be in jail right now--that much I can say for sure. They would have had to pick up the pieces of the idiot when I got done with him. Sorry to hear about the bow...and the idiot If it were me I would be tempted to call the cops for assault...but since he already paid you for damages I would hold off, as long as the $175 pays the full damages on the bow and a bit extra for the loss of hunting time etc...then I may let it go...but if the money doesn't cover the costs then definitley present him with the bill and an extra 50 or so for the lost time and personal damages. If he is trying to hurt me, I would apply non-lethal deadly force. He comes on YOUR property and attacks you...yeah, that's enough justification to break some bones and nothing could be done about it especially if he attacked you first.
