Re: Hoyt or Matthews?

how much you wanna spend bud....you dont care what you spend, then go with the Matthews Switchback....great bow and i havent heard any complaints about it yet....but if you are looking for a little cheaper bow, but still pretty good, go with a hoyt...not all hoyts are cheap though thats not what im saying, but from what iv seen the matthews bows are always a little more...but as you may have heard ''performance worth the price''.....good luck with the bow

I have to disagree with the statement tht Mathews bows are higher priced then similar Hoyt bows. At the local shops near me top end Hoyt and Bowtech bows average $20 to $40 more then Mathews bows.

If given the choice I would choose the Mathews. But, that is my personal preference. Shoot them both, and decide for yourself. You can't go wrong with either company. Good Luck!!

Re: Hoyt or Matthews?

Please don't fall into the hype and arguments about which bow is the best. I've shot a hoyt before and a Mathews, both are great bows, cant go wrong with either bow or any bow for that matter. It's all about personal choice. Like others already said go shoot some bows first and make the choice.

Re: Hoyt or Matthews?

I been reading a lot about the new Trykon by Hoyt and a lot of people are liking it better than the switchback both are great bow makers shoot them all. I shoot a parker and like it but I'll be ready to upgrade next year to something a little quieter and now that Matthews and hoyt are getting some bows that fit my draw length(32 inchs) I'll be looking at them, in fact the two mentioned switchback and trykon which both come in 32 in

Re: Hoyt or Matthews?

Heres my two cents. I never shot a hoyt But I have picked them up. They are heavy. Now I don't hunt like most of you guy's Im up and down mountains all day so I got to say light is better, I have a mathews feathermax. I have taken 9 elk with it 4 deer and 1 bear and 1 couger and 8 coyote, That being said the lower limb snaped while I was drawing on a 5 point bull. Now mathews fixed it by basicaly giveing me new limbs, cables, string, and wheels In about 24 hours from the time it hit the shop till it was back in my hand. Just had to pay shipping. So there costomer service is awsome.

The Bad part about a Mathews bow is it is darn near a rifle and should in my opinion not be leagel to hunt with. It is about as far from archery as you can get short of useing a rifle It should be called flatery instead of archery.

I personaly lost the thrill of hunting with mine and now shoot a recurve and the thrill is back. but being a young guy you probley want speed.

I have a big problem with were archery is headed But thats My opinion. I think we all need to take a step back from time to time and ask why we hunt with what we do> But thats just me.

Get the Mathews If you like how it feels!!! If not bow tec and hoyt are also good wheelie bows

Re: Hoyt or Matthews?

The Switchback is great bow I have shot it and love it I have not had much expierience with the newer hoyts but I am sure they are quality also. I am not a fan of cam and a half systems they are a hyped up double cam. The new Mathews Switchback I think it is the SD model is mathews bow for this coming year this should be an awesome bow something like 315-318 ibo speed with still a 7+ inch brace height should have the best of both worlds. good luck with whatever your choice is I am sure whatever you choose will be the rite choice

Re: Hoyt or Matthews?

I am buying a Mathew's Outback in a few weeks because I like the experience I had with my Mathew's FX. Both bows shoot the same speed, I just like the newer feel, design and low vibration. My FX shoots darts with the drop-away rest and GT arrows. I think that as long as you have your bow tuned as good as a pro shop can get it and practice with it at least every week then any bow can be as accurate and consistant as you are. Remember, most bows have come a long way since the nova was invented. Nowadays most differences in bows are more of a signature than a lack or gain of performance. I have heard several bad remarks about the Switchback on here and other sights. That and cost are some of the reasons I am buying an Outback instead. I found my Outback used for $460.00. I inspected this bow and it's in great shape. Not bad for this caliber of bow. The grip on the mathew's is what sold me at first, consistancy kept it with me for 3 yrs and now my desire for another style is the only thing making me stray to another bow. Point is, buy what you want for whatever reason you want as long as you have fun with hunting and this bow and can make clean ethical shots everytime. That's what matters above all else. Good luck.

Re: Hoyt or Matthews?

I went looking for a new bow this past winter myself. I actually was anti-Mathews before I started looking. I ended up shooting some bows from Mathews along with Hoyt, Parker, and Bowtech. I ended up liking the Outback the best. Crazy how things turn out. Now I can't imagine shooting something other than the Outback I am shooting now. It feels great and I have so much confidence with it. I'm not trying to say it's the "Mathews" that made the difference. What did make the difference was being able to shoot multiple bows from all the "top" manufacturers and choosing the one that felt the best, "TO ME."

So my advice, though a little more long winded, is pretty much the same as everyone elses. Don't limit yourself to certain bows when you are looking. Shoot them all and decide for yourself which one feels the best. The best advice I can provide that hasn't been said is this. Find one bow shop that sells multiple lines of bows i.e. Mathews, Hoyt, Parker, Bowtech. That way you don't get wrapped up in which bow shop has the best salesman. They will be more likely to give you unbiased opinions and not push you toward one manufacturer over another.
