Re: Packers

It's obviously tough for some athletes to let go when everyone around them knows it's over. The competitive spirit will always outlive their ability to play. Jerry Rice comes to mind, but there have been a ton of others over my lifetime that I can remember.

Either way, Favre has his place in Canton someday, just hope he doesn't make a fool of himself like Rice did.

Re: Packers

You know it's the coaches and teams that allow them to play past their prime. If I was making millions and playing a game I loved, I wouldn't quit. This guy has it made. He gets to start every year based on his success he had several seasons ago.

Seriously, somebody needs to cut him. LOL

Favre has been making a fool of himself for the better part of 3 or 4 years.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not as bad as Rice did. That was shameful, painful.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh I disagree with that. When Rice was put on the field he still did an adequate job, but Favre...man alive that guy just heaves the ball all over the field like he's actually trying to throw INT's sometimes.

I'm with John on this one. Rice was bad, but at least the guy didn't just ruin his team's chance of winning when he got out there. Not to mention, Rice was always all class about it. He didn't hold his team hostage while he decided if he felt like playing or not.

And you're right John, some of those INT's make you wonder. I guess when you think you God's gift to the game, you might think that you can get away with bad decision like those. confused.gif

Do you guys remember how many injuries GB had last year? Two of their top 3 recievers, their top 2 running backs. It's pretty hard to try to win the game when you have third string players in there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Soooooooo to help try and get his team past that, Favre decided to heave 30 INT's?

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess making bad decisions with the football can be blamed on other players injuries now ey?

I understand the guy didn't have a team around him...but that's no excuse for throwing into triple coverage.

Besides...that Gonzo guy (or whatever) came in and ran the ball pretty well...so it wasn't like he didn't have a running game to go to.

Farve's problems (all of them) can be summed up in one word...EGO.

Elway did it right, leave when you're on top. You'll always be remember as a champ. Farve is tarnishing his memory as we speak.

[/ QUOTE ]

Check the rosters of the Broncos in 97-98 and what the Packers had last year. If Favre had a team like that, he'd have thrown for 30+ TDs, not picks.

Javon Walker - out

Ahmad Green - out

Bubba Franks - out

Davenport - out

Mike Wahle - lost to free agency

Marco Rivera - lost to free agency

The front office wasn't doing their jobs. frown.gif

Not saying he shouldn't retire and makes many bad decisions, but that comparison doesn't tell the whole story. wink.gif

Brett Favre completed 16 of 22 passes for 134 yards and 2 TDs in just over two quarters of action Saturday night as the Packers topped the Falcons 38-10 at Lambeau Field.

Looks like he's not quite dead grin.gif
