Chrud
Re: Packers [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Elway did it right, leave when you're on top. You'll always be remember as a champ. Farve is tarnishing his memory as we speak. [/ QUOTE ] Check the rosters of the Broncos in 97-98 and what the Packers had last year. If Favre had a team like that, he'd have thrown for 30+ TDs, not picks. Javon Walker - out Ahmad Green - out Bubba Franks - out Davenport - out Mike Wahle - lost to free agency Marco Rivera - lost to free agency The front office wasn't doing their jobs. Not saying he shouldn't retire and makes many bad decisions, but that comparison doesn't tell the whole story. [/ QUOTE ] No Craig. You don't get it. All those injuries shouldn't matter. It's all Favre's fault. One really bad season and they're calling for his head. I guess they forgot who led their team to all those Division Championships in the few years before 2005...you know...when should have been let go. unioncountyslayer
Re: Packers [ QUOTE ] He may be making a fool of himself and tarnishing his memory, but I imagine his banker and agent don't see it that way. [/ QUOTE ] Just my $.02 as usual, but I have never understood this theory of someone tarnishing their memory on the field or court by playing past their prime. Maybe if they did something criminal I can understand it. There are several athletes that come to mind when you talk about them playing past their prime, but to me their accomplishments outway their late struggles. Take Michael Jordan for instance. Why in the world would he come back to play for the Wizards? But he's Michael Jordan and no one was going to question his motives or love for the game. When you have a career like Jordan, or Farve in this instance, that is what is going to get you into the HALL. IMO the only athletes that are tarnishing their careers are the steroid addicts and wife beaters/killers.

It's all Favre's fault. :smirk [/ QUOTE ] yeah, you're right, injuries...not his fault... throwing into triple coverage=his fault letting his ego take control over common sense=his fault choosing to keep playing way past his prime=his fault the old gun slinger mentality might have worked for him 10 years ago when he had talent around him...nowadays, its gonna be just plain fun to watch him throw all those INT's, for me anyway. Chrud
Re: Packers [ QUOTE ] choosing to keep playing way past his prime=his fault [/ QUOTE ] So, he should have just quit rather than playing on and winning the Division title a bunch of times the last few years? One bad year and you should quit? Guess I'm not up on football as much as you guys are.
muggs
Re: Packers they say love is blind Chrud...I understand where you're coming from. Farve's a fan favorite, but how many free passes does that earn for a guy anyway? If he cared about the team, he wouldn't make statements like, "what are they gonna do, cut me?" Guest Finn
Re: Packers In 2004: Favre had 30 TDs, 17 ints In 2005, 20 Tds and 29 ints. The Packers lost 4 All-Pro's from the 04 offense and played a 5th string running back most of the season. Sure he makes some bad decisions, but doesn't the supporting cast help a player make plays? [/ QUOTE ] No, you are blind too. I guess you guys forgot who won the NFC North in 2002, 2003 and 2004. I agree, Favre should have been gone a long time ago. I'd sure hate to see what happens if "Big Ben" has a bad year. What should Favre have done differently? Rather than trying to make something happen should have just have sat back there and get hit all game long? Or just throw the ball away and have people rip on his completion percentage being low? I agree Favre isn't what he used to be, but calling for his head and saying he should have been let go years ago isn't really necessary for someone who has one bad year. Meanwhile when some of his players get hurt, its their fault, but when they win it's all because of Favre right? Look, the guy can put up numbers but man he has been killing the Packers with idiotic passes for a while now, not just last year. For example, remember that playoff game in Philly a couple years ago when he heaved into triple coverage, actually there wasnt even a receiver in the same zip code as that pass, in overtime? Those are the kinds of plays I'm talking about.
muggs
Re: Packers whoever said he should've been done years ago? not me. its nice to talk about the past, heck, back in the 60's the Brown's actually won like 9 championships out of 10 years. living in the past doesn't win much though. all i'm saying, is that the packers are in bad shape, they need to start heading in a new directions. now, if you guys want to watch an over-the-hill egomaniac ruin your team enroute to hurling up 29 INT's, that's fine by me... actually, that's probably cool with Vikings, Bears, and Lion's fans too. Meanwhile when some of his players get hurt, its their fault, but when they win it's all because of Favre right? [/ QUOTE ] I never said Favre did that all on his own. I never said it was the players fault either. Sure he's made some bad decisions that really hurt the team. His worst year was last year. Look at the supporting cast he had. Then again, look who he had around him when GB won those Division Titles. Do you think Pittsburgh would have been as good as they were if Ben's best two recievers were out, had no talent at tight end and was starting a no-name third string running back? Sure Favre made some bad decisions, but you can't expect a QB to put up his normal numbers when there is no help around him. I can understand that he's nearing the end of his career, but you can't put all the blame on him for 2005. And you can't give him all the credit for the other years. I think he will be better this year though, if the team stays healthy. Muggs, this is what I was talking about... [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] i think they need a younger qb in there favre is getting old. muggs
Re: Packers yeah, that's BB11 for ya. I see your point Chrud, Farve didn't have a lot around him, that definately didn't help. But really, I think a lot of the Packer's problems were brought on by Farve. BB11 makes a good point. That pass he threw against the Eagles in OT of the 04 playoff shows the trouble with this guy. He thinks he can do it all. He used to get away with it when he was younger, and he had a great team around him. But now that he's old and the talent has left him...he's showing he's major chink in the armor. That chink has been there for a long time, but it was OK when he was winning. He's exposed now, and its only gonna get worse.
Guest Finn
Re: Packers That pass against the Eagles was horrible, I certainly agree and was cussing like crazy when he threw it. But, I'll still take him with a supporting cast that can make some plays. Maybe not for many years, but still this year. Brett's still my man....plus, he shoots a Mathews! Guest Finn
Re: Packers He was a guest a year or so ago of one of the big dogs at Mathews to bowhunt down in Sparta. I had pics and the article, but lost them when my computer crashed. He, Doug Peterson and Wesley Walls were hunting there. Peterson got a nice 8 point. Will see if I can find them. If his regulars (including his running backs) are on IR he will try to push a little harder to get the job done. I believe you will see better things from Brett this season.
