popgun
I’ll bet most of you guys recognize this dude. Yep….That’s Billy Lane, the Motorcycle Designer and Builder. Driving while intoxicated in Florida on Labor Day, he attempted to pass several vehicles with a double yellow line. He was driving his customized pickup truck and slammed head on into a small motorcycle driven by a 52 year old man, with a helmet and riding a street legal machine. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Billy Lane went on to smash into a stationary object after the impact with the motorcycle. Blood alcohol test have not been finished yet but the officers at the scene said that alcohol was a factor. This is not the first time Lane has had bouts with the law and alcohol. He was arrested in North Carolina not long ago. He may be a genius on a motorcycle building level but a real fool when it comes to good judgment. Personally, I hope this “idol” of many teens and motorcycle enthusiasts will go down in flames. Billy Lane’s truck being loaded on a wrecker. What a shame… ….popgun

slugshooter
Re: Another Hero(?) Shamed?: Never seen or heard of him. Now, if it had been Jesse James or one of the Tuetels, then I'd know. As far as hero status, not likely, but I am sure that there is more than one person that is hardcore in the motorcycle world who may not have thought of him as hero status, but surely idolized him. BowJoe
Re: Another Hero(?) Shamed?: In my oppinion, he's guilty of wreckless homicide anyway since what he was doing when he hit the guy is illegal in the first place. How's that for setting priorities straight? AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Another Hero(?) Shamed?: Prayers and condolences go out to the family of the gentlemen who died on his motorcycle. Billy will more than likely see jail over this and should, drinking and driving is plain stupid and now he has to live with this forever!!! I lost what respect I had for the guy, yes a talent with metal and a cutting torch, what a foolish thing to do, ruined his life and tore up the life of another family!!! horst
Re: Another Hero(?) Shamed?: just to play devils advocate for a minute Im going to assume nobody thats condemning this guy has ever had a beer and drove a car, drove over the speed limit, rolled through a stop sign, talked on a cell phone while driving, or any of about a hundred other things that are deliberately breaking the law or knowingly taken your attention off your driving.Maybe it didnt result in a death but could it have? Im not defending what he did, it was wrong and he should see the inside of a jail for it.I wouldnt even know who he was if he hadnt been on tv couple times so I have no reason to defend him. but the only reason hes brought up and the hundreds of other people that were in car wrecks yesterday through thier own disregard for safety arent is hes well known.Instead of berating the guy maybe it should serve as a wakeup call to people.I dont know how many idiots I meet on the road everyday who are breaking various laws and paying very little attention to whats going on around them and Im sure people have said the same about my driving at times. Exturkinator
Re: Another Hero(?) Shamed?: I didn't consider him a hero before this inicident for reasons already voiced above... This story is really saddening, and only further confirms that no amount of fame, money, etc can fulfill... "This is not the first time Lane has had bouts with the law and alcohol. He was arrested in North Carolina not long ago." Shameful it is that someone with such talent can fail so dramatically at the most basic unit of society - being a decent citizen. wtnhunt
Re: Another Hero(?) Shamed?: That is really sad. Never heard of the guy. Would just about be willing to bet Florida will get him with vehicular homicide. They dont play around down there with stuff like this.
