dogdoc
Fired today! Doesn't surprise me. Eventually you want to win the big one and Marty's not the man.

toddyboman
Re: Marty out at SD... I dont agree. Im not a charger fan or marty fan. But he was not the ones out on the field making or missing plays. Sometime I think to much blame is put onto the coaches. JMO. I'm sure someone will take him. [/ QUOTE ] I agree, it does seem as if he has a "playoffs curse", but hey, he got them there, they just choked. What more could he do? He's a great coach, team just came up short. colts1888
Re: Marty out at SD... I didnt think Dungy would ever win the big one either, and the way his defense played in the regular season, i was ready to see him canned if they flamed out in the playoffs. Look at what happened, they won it all.

MCH
Re: Marty out at SD... Isn't Juan Rivera still available?? That guys is gonna be a great head coach. In the same mold as Ditka, tough and doesn't take crap.
muggs
Re: Marty out at SD... [ QUOTE ] Isn't Juan Rivera still available?? [/ QUOTE ] Why in the world would the Chargers fill the postion with a second baseman from the Domincan Republic? Anyway, like John said, really not the right time to be making this move. Cam Cameron and Wade Phillips both became head coaches and this move lacks class. I gotta think it has more to do with a conflict between Marty and the GM then the playoff record. I heard there was some behind the scenes issues, and Marty is a pretty headstrong guy. Anyway, outside of the 4-and-11 call, that loss to the Pats was on his players heads...not his. He'll find a job soon, probably not this year, but next. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Browns hire him.

HMMMMMM, San Diego...Southern Cal...Pete Carroll???

They're the same thing from a different perspective. [/ QUOTE ] Kev...if the Tribe could play .500 ball and make the playoffs it would be nice. But I guess on the flip-side of that coin, I wouldn't want them playing in the worst division in the Majors like your Dodgers. Besides, Hafner and Grady would lead the Tribe to 100+ wins if they were in the hapless NL.

I mean, the guy is making some good cash, he gets all the good recruits and every year he's got a shot at a National Championship. Why would he leave? [/ QUOTE ] Because he won 2 national championships in a row, had a look at a 3rd, Bush and Leinart are never coming back, he still wants a chance to prove he can do it in the pro's, San Diego is already a Super Bowl caliber team in his own backyard, and the big one....USC is about to get buried in NCAA sanctions. muggs
Re: Marty out at SD... [ QUOTE ] USC is about to get buried in NCAA sanctions. [/ QUOTE ] For this reason, maybe. But I honestly don't think Carroll is foolish enough to leave the easiest job in all of Head Coaching for the NFL. What's the average tenure for NFL coaches, 2 years? I'd rather ride out losing a few scholarships for a season and keep making millions. Anyway, the next Bush and Leinhart are probably somewhere to be found in his next couple recruiting classes.
