Pitchers and catchers report Friday(dodgers) and they'll have their first full team workout on the 20th. Things are looking up for my Dodgers this year. They had a great offseason by signing Schmidt, Pierre, Wolf and Gonzo. And they lost another Boras client(Drew) which is always a plus. They are being picked by a lot of experts to win the NL West and actually make it to the NLCS. I'll be happy if they just win one playoff game. That in itself would be an improvement. Baseball is almost back and all will be well. My first practice as my son's T-ball coach is next week. Think it's too early to teach them how to turn the 3-6-1 double play??? LOL I've loved the Yankees since I was a little kid. My brother got Paul O'Neill to sign a Yankees hat for me for my birthday one year. Still have it hanging in my bedroom! My grandfather is in Florida right now to watch Spring training. He goes every year for a month or so. He's one of the guys down there. I can't tell you how many autographed balls he has now. Wade Boggs hit him in the ribs with a line drive one year and he signed the ball for my Pop. A guy offered him $500 for it but he said heck no. Pretty sweet. The additions of Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez will help the bullpen considerably. Hampton will be back in the rotation along with Smoltz and Hudson. Craig Wilson will be a valuable player off the bench, maybe even get a few starts in left field. Kelly Johnson will take over second base and Scott Thorman will replace Adam LaRoche at first. Hopefully Chipper can stay healthy this year and play more than 110 games. Andruw will be back for his tenth year with the Braves, and Francouer will return, along with Brian McCann, for their second full season. Chuck James and Kyle Davies will likely fill the other two spots in the rotation. Oh yeah! Their also awaiting approval for the team to be sold to Liberty Media. Arod I am sure will not, the Yankees will more than likely be in contention so they are not going to trade Arod. If the Braves are in contention they are not going to trade Jones either. Even if they are not I don't see them trading him unless the Dodgers have a exceptional offer. They would probably have to give up so much that it would hurt their chances. I would like to see my Cardinals get another outfielder & SP. I was hoping we would be able to keep Weaver. I am glad they did not pay him what he wanted though. He would have been a good pitcher in St. Louis with Duncan helping him, now I hope he really struggles & realizes he should have stayed. A healthy Mulder halfway thru the season will help. A healthy Izzy will put Wainwright in the rotation,that would be a big help. Wells is the kind of pitcher that Duncan seems to get the most out of. If the sell goes through and Liberty decides to put money into the Braves, then maybe they'll resign him. It's not gonna take as much as you're thinking brownie. If the Braves decide they won't be able to sign Jones next year, then they'll definitely trade him. Better get something for him now than lose him at the end of the season for a little of nothing. The Dodgers have a surplus of young outfield talent. Currently, their pitching staff is the best(on paper) in the NL and they have several young prospects.(Elbert, Kershaw, Meloan) As for the Cardinals, their main problem is they don't have enough to offer in trades. Duncan is really the only bargaining chip they have to offer. Rumor was that the Cardinals were interested in Penny but for the life of me, I can't see how they can make it worth it for us. I do like the young relief guy, Chris Perez. I think he'll be a stud in the majors. But aside from the obvious untouchables, the Cardinals don't have many cards to throw away. That's where I think the Dodgers will have an advantage in the West and the NL. Mid-season, they will have probably the best package for a potential trade partner. Although, I'd hate to see guys like Elbert, best left hander in the minors, and Kemp go, I wouldn't mind it that much if it were for a player like A-Rod or Andruw. Once again, Shapiro has done wonders with Dolan's limited budget. Getting up in the morning and sitting on my couch with my cup of coffee and actually caring about what's on sportscenter. During football season, Sunday and Monday are good days, but the rest are boring. College basketball is OK, but NBA gets on my nerves even though I'm currently in second place in my fantasy league and have a good shot at the championship if my all my players stay healthy. But even with that, NBA highlights aren't exciting. When baseball is on, almost every morning is a must watch. I look forward to the plays of the day more as well. He's fast and has a freaking cannon for an arm, but he doesn't seem to have any pop in his bat. But I'm hoping he emerges too. Right now they're planning on platooning 1B, LF, RF, and maybe even cather because VMart can't throw out baserunners. They have the young talent to have one legit starter at 1B and LF, but Wedge's love affair with Casey Blake is not easliy understood?? btw- Josh Barfield just might put up sick numbers. He did OK in his first full year, hitting in front of the pitcher in one of the worst ballparks for hitters in the NL. And that DB John took him in our draft the pick before I was gonna grab him. When you collect baseball cards you get to know all the up and coming guys. If the Indians are smart, they get rid of CC first. For teams in the playoff mix, a pitcher with CC's stuff should get you a outfield starter and two top end rookies. Hafner and Westbrook should be untouchable...at least until they become unaffordable. Victor should be playing first and let Shoppach play catcher. I've read that he's good defensively.
