muggs
Re: Official MLB 2007 season thread [ QUOTE ] Victor should be playing first and let Shoppach play catcher. I've read that he's good defensively. They could also sign Alomar. He's good for at least 40 games a year. [/ QUOTE ] The Tribe has a stud young 1B propect who drove in something like 49 runs in 52 games last year. VMart should be delt IMO. He's a great hitter...for a catcher, but his bat isn't AL first basemen caliber I don't think. I think Westbrook is as good as gone too. With the contracts there pitchers are getting, they'll never resign him and he's a solid pitcher for a team in the playoff mix. You could get at least 2 high prospects for him too. DSGB
Re: Official MLB 2007 season thread [ QUOTE ] You know what I miss most about baseball season?? Getting up in the morning and sitting on my couch with my cup of coffee and actually caring about what's on sportscenter. During football season, Sunday and Monday are good days, but the rest are boring. College basketball is OK, but NBA gets on my nerves even though I'm currently in second place in my fantasy league and have a good shot at the championship if my all my players stay healthy. But even with that, NBA highlights aren't exciting. When baseball is on, almost every morning is a must watch. I look forward to the plays of the day more as well. [/ QUOTE ] Ditto that! When are the Yankees gonna realize that signing washed-up veterans to enormous cotracts isn't a good business plan? I thought they were finally getting a clue when they cut ties with Shef and Randy Johnson...but I'm starting to realize that was an anomoly. btw- only a Yankees fan would brag about how much money the club spends with 0 results. MCH
MLB enacts first rule change in 10 years [ QUOTE ] Rule 3.02 now specifically prohibits placing "soil, rosin, paraffin, licorice, sandpaper, emery paper or other foreign substance" on the ball.(10 game suspension for violators) Other changes include a rule forcing pitchers to deliver a ball within 12 seconds (down from 20) with no one on base and for hitters to keep one foot in the batter's box throughout his at-bat. Those rules, which were in effect in the minors last year, carry a penalty of a ball (for the pitcher) or a strike (for the hitter). Also, games that are called with a tie score will now be resumed, rather than replayed entirely. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know what to think about this rule change as a whole. I like the tie game being replayed as a whole. But I don't think I like the 12 second rule. Tie game bottom of the ninth two outs with Jeter at bat and A-Rod on deck, I think the last thing the pitcher needs to be thinking about is how much time he's taking on the mound for each pitch. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: MLB enacts first rule change in 10 years i can't see those rules being enforced to often. maybe in the spring games or early season, but i think the ump's would have more to worry about than how long it takes for a pitcher to throw a pitch. do they really think the ump is going to count"1,2,3,....12!! thats a ball!!" ...the only one i don't really understand is the batter having to keep one foot inside of the batters box at all times. MCH
Re: MLB enacts first rule change in 10 years They're trying to speed the game up anyway they can. They think that if they confine the hitter to never leaving the batter's box, the time lost from him walking down the third base line to get a sign and then walking back will help speed up the game. I really don't see these being enforced either. Unless someone just blatantly breaks them consistently.

I think your going to see the Yankees start looking or bringing up some younger talent though. As far as spending the money... at least the owner of my team wants to win a World Series and doesn't care what it cost to do it. If some of the other teams wanted it bad enough they would pay for some great talent and maybe have a chance to win. Last I checked Jeter had 4 WS rings. Eric [/ QUOTE ] I've never heard of the Virginia Yankees though...but, hey there's something to be said for hometown loyalty right. I guess my point is, any fool can throw enormous contracts at every free agent, but that's not sound thinking. If the Yankees would actually invest 1/50th of the money they waste on bad free agents into their farm system...and actually sign free agents with some restraint and smarts, they probably would win the WS every year. But continuing to just flat out waste money on washed up vets, or guys coming off their only good year is really stupid...albeit, fun to watch if you're me. The Columbus Bluejackets because I always route for first, the pro team playing in Cleveland. If there isn't one, I look for the nearest in State pro team. But sometimes, there just might not be a pro team in in Cleveland or Ohio. Like was the case with the NHL prior to the expansion of the league, and the addition of the Bluejackets. So I was forced to pick a favorite team. I picked The Quebec Nordiques because of Joe Sakic. The franchise has sinced moved to Colorado, and I still follow them religiously. Sakic is da man.
