I haven't been on in forever. I started a new last year. Between life and that I haven't had any down time. I have been on the road and in the air a lot too. Mostly good but far too busy! How has life been treating everyone?

We are back and forth.. yesterday we had almost 20 mile an hour winds and it was in the 70's all day. Today we are back in the 50's. It will NEVER make its mind up! The deer are all messed up. The good news is the ducks have moved in and stayed in. Ive only been once but need to get out. I have been seeing hundreds of Mallard.

Yesterday afternoon, 85.... current temp in Tulsa 35. Welcome to Okieland. Supposed to be COLD all week. Im happy. Im seeing bucks chasing hard, ducks should push in too.

So I got the wife into duck/ dove hunting last year and she had a BLAST! She is all great guns now. Im thinking about picking up a 1080 camera for hunting. I, at first, was going to throw down a grand on a camera but have decided to see how this season goes first. Ive never filmed hunting so it could go either way. Im now thiking more like a Sony Handicam or something for the $250 - 300 range. Low light will happen as most ducks we shoot at are coming in as soon as you can see 10' away. Battery life and expandable (digitial only) memory would be great too. Need the best bang for the buck. I plan on hunting pheasant early next year in Kanasas so this will very much be multi-use. I really need something with a zoom so that leaves out GoPro. Ideas? Thoughts?

Im ready for that Shaun. We had a blast of cold over the weekend. Work up and it was 25 at the house. Yesterday was cool too but the wind was HIGH. Now we have moderate temps all week and rain. We need rain bad so im happy to see it. By Friday we could see 1" - 3"

Yep... I cant stand time changes. Now it will be dark by the time I make it home to feed all of our critters, take the trash to the end of the drive, etc. Annoys me to to no end. As the old saying goes, only Government would think you can cut a foot off the end of a blanket and sew it to the other end to make the blanket longer.

We have a high in the low 50's now for tomorrow, 75 for today. Friday night/ Saturday morning we are now looking at the high 20's! Yep, hard freeze.... Here it comes baby!

The feeder decoy should be in from amazon any day. I bought a higdon pulsator. I also bought a Baby Mojo that was on sale at BP for $78.00. And... I bought a new Mossberg 835 and a half dozen full body goose decoys. Should make for a good season! Looking for additional shells right now too.

Yep, if it were me I would go with a standard Modified for timber hunting with a #2 steel shot. I do that for our ponds. Most shots are easily within 40 yards and it is a deadly combo. For turkey you can pick up a cheap Truglo turkey choke in full or extra full. They are in the $25 range and work fine.

Yeah, they are saying 40's in tulsa so closer to the house it will be cooler. I will be out with the smoke pole on Saturday and possibly Sunday. We actually had thunderstorms this morning early.

We have been all over the place in terms of weather. That is pretty typical but gets old. We finally have a cold front blowing in tonight and another later this week. Over the weekend our muzzle loader season opened but it was 86 and windy on Saturday and 87 and windy on Sunday. I didnt get out at all. The temps are supposed to drop to a high of 71 tomorrow and then another front hits on Thursday making it a COLD weekend.... im looking forward to the cold weekend. Makes for much better hunting. Leaves are starting to really change. So how is the weather in your area?

Ive thought about trying the high end shot but wow.. the price tag! Until I have some serious range I will likely just stick to the Winchester cheap'O shot. It kills them dead too. Typically I have ducks in my face so a 20 yard shot is pretty regular.

It takes 1-2 shots to double check. That’s it.... also, a lot of people take for granted that changing ammunition brands also throws off accuracy. If you sighted in with Winchester a Remington will not necessarily hit the same mark or anywhere close. Guns like different types of ammo.

We typically dont have heavy numbers until late November/ early December. We have a split (December 2nd-13th) where we cant hunt. Immediately after that the ducks really flood in. We still have plenty to shoot at but dont see them in groups of 8+ all morning long until December. This is the earliest I have seen anything but teal in decent numbers. I have seen a lot of Canada geese too. A neighbor just planted 40 acres of winter wheat and he has about 25-30 on him every evening. It is still covered in dove too. He runs the geese off and will happily let me hunt so im sure I will be throwing steel at geese in November.

So my family has owned the same ranch for about 32 years. We have several ponds (13 total) and a lot of ducks. Ponds are very simple, literally just open field ponds. Regardless, I slaughter mallards every year. We also get tons of Gaddys, divers, etc. Its also a breeding ground for Hooded Merganzer so we have a ton of those.... Beyond that, nothing.... I have been wanting to kill a Pintail or Woodie for years but literally, none to be found on our place. Yesterday I was scouting (Bow in hand) for deer. I happend on a large pond that had about 30-35 ducks on it. It tried to sneak up to get a look but I was in the open before I noticed them. They busted on me, never got a look at what they were. I walked over to a small, heavily wooded pond that typically holds tons of Teal. Its seriously tiny but the teal cover it every year. I didnt see a single teal but there were 3 Wood Duck drakes and one hen! This is honestly a first. I have never, ever seen a wood duck out there in the 25+ years ive been hunting the ranch! Our duck season starts 11/01. Im so ready! I dont think I can decoy them in but if they are pushed out I may actually get to kill my first Wood Duck this year! Im hopeing the larger pond was also wood ducks given the number! They were too large for teal and it is also right up against a hard oak timber line... Ill update this if I get to squeeze off on the wood ducks! Im stoked...

Thats great! I wanted to buy a new semi auto this year but didnt have it in the books to do so. I'll wait until tax season and pick one up. Im adding a Baby Mojo, at least another pack of full body goose, and a Feeder motion decoy.

That stinks... Happened to me once too during a goose hunt. It was fitted too loose and the reed fell out. FYI: Bass pro is having a waterfowl sale right now. Might be a decent time to pickup some new stuff...

Okie Beast..... That has been passed around on the local face book hunting pages and by the Oklahoma Wildlife Department. We SO need a point rule. We have the genetics but can kill anything with antlers.

Ill check out the wonder duck. I liked the Higdon and have seen one in action. I liked it but its mainly for movement. Any type of movement generator would be effective. I have several places to hunt including one that we can keep flooded by a nearby creek so its rarely a bust for me. Im just ready for some cold air.

Ran into a friend I graduated high school with years ago... Looking at doing a hunt with him (he has pen raised birds on 3000 acres) west of Wichita. That will at least be a start... Fair prices over his trained dogs.

I learned the hard way too.... I had an arrow snap in almost a new bow. The result, string slap on an epic level. The next day it looked like a large bar of soap under my arm. It was not pretty. It took several months for the knot to go away. I dang near puked from the pain. WIthout question mine was a bad arrow.
