Let 30's, two kids, way too much time at work, Church, etc. Time is something I don’t have anymore. At one time I would have taken hunting over pretty much anything but even last weekend we slept in instead of going duck hunting. That almost never happens for me... The older I get the more my priorities have seemed to change.

Yep... didnt even get out again. The 15th came and went... season over. Im okay with that oddly enough. Passed a handful of deer and went dry this year. It was a good streak but didnt break my heart. I dont know if that is a good thing or bad thing.

Wow.... didnt know that! Luckily my most used IMR isnt on that list.

I love American Pickers. I dont watch it often enough.... Great stuff... Love this show too. My wife and I joke about moving to Alaska and living like that. I really love the idea and wish I could do it... FYI, the Kilchers are Jewel's (The famous singer) family. Jewel's last name is Kilcher. She is actually from the homestead. Her dad is Atz... Atz is actually a singer/ musician.

Thats great P.... I pray that good news/ blessing covers your children too.

You got it. Sorry to hear this....

Its junk.... When I was young I made the mistake of joining them and buckmasters. NEVER do either... The stuff they give you to try is horrible. I had a deer call once that sounded like someone choking a cat. Not worth it. Youre just opening the door for junk mail, etc.

Yep, we hit 40's yesterday. Warm up is here too.. It is 33 in Tulsa right now. We are supposed to be in the 50's this weekend.

Yep, you have a CHORE now! I bought a Kia Optima, got it really cheap, to commute. LIked the car.... briefly. At 64k miles the timing belt had broke and the dealership patched it back together to move it. A month later I had BAD problems. Same exact fault code. I had to replace the head and two spark plugs. The dealership had actually JB welded a plug in the head so that it would fire. The plug had been hit by the piston causing some serious damage to the piston and shot the plug out of the head. They had to JB weld in a shorter plug! Right after I found all of the trouble the dealership closed. I didnt have a chance to do anything about it. I ended up putting a refurb head on it out of Texas. I changed two pistons and got it going fairly good. It needed more work but it was at least running. I drove it very, very briefly and then traded it off. The samesman was happy to make the sale and told me it would go straight to auction anyway so not to sweat any problems. That was my first and last stint with KIA and or its relatives. After working on it I found in the manual that the timing belt needs changed at 60k miles...... nice. Lesson ended up costing me about $1k.

It was a strange year for a LOT of people. I have a lease for my first time ever and really didn’t hunt the ranch too much. I passed one decent buck at the ranch and several does on the lease. I also passed one moderate buck on the lease that I probably would have shot anywhere else but needed to let him grow... For some reason I just don’t have the sense of urgency like normal. From others I have talked to, people just didn’t do worth a hoot and yes... there are still acorns everywhere, including white oak acorns. Persimmons did REALLY well this year too and the trees are actually dropping rotten fruit. I have never seen either of those during season..

Yep, schools are closed here too. We had a front come through on Saturday. It was 45 until dark and then it rained, froze, and snowed. We went from 45 to ice and snow on the ground with a temperature drop of around 25 degrees in less than 12 hours. Nothing like you guys up north though. Its cold but we havent been that cold in several years.

My wife's first ducks and other pics from this year!

No cleaning.. she does however cook them. The woman has cut up more than one deer on the kitchen table.. -
Yep.... not as cold here but cold enough, we are at 4 with a -16 wind chill. We are running at around 15 mph north winds.

So after a good dove season in September my wife decided she loves bird hunting. Had I know I wouldn’t have taken her deer/ squirrel hunting almost 20 years ago. She hated that and didn’t go again until dove this year. She decided to try duck hunting with me so I bought her a set of Waders (Max 4), a new She Coat (which she loves and wears everywhere), wool socks, etc, down to a Double Nasty Call. I also bought a Winchester SPX in Moldy Oak duck blind camo (Got a good deal). She shot it and loved it... so much for MY new shotgun! And off we go. We didn’t get a single duck on the lease. She was disappointed but not so much that she wouldn’t go back. That made me happy. My family owns a 1300 acre beef ranch. I grew up hunting our ponds and had NO idea how good the duck hunting was there until I started hunting other places. Given that, I loaded up the wife and took her on what I knew would be her first kill. She is now so hooked she is wanting to find a place to hunt pheasant/ quail and even film hunts and put them on Youtube. I have created a monster. This one pond in particular is a green head magnet. Every year I hammer mallards on this pond, always have. Eagles fly directly overhead looking for birds and will even swoop down to 6-8 feet above you. It's an incredible sight. I knew no matter what it would make for a good morning. Friday, December 27 I load up my new portable blind. I made this out of cattle panel, a canvas drop cloth, Max 4 leafy material, and zip ties. It folds to 24" x 48" x 6" and weighs around 35 lbs. Unfolded it is 4' x 6' x 48" tall with a head cover, shooting windows, and sight windows. The canvas drop cloth REALLY stops the wind. Its not great, but it works good. Total cost not including the panels (I had the cattle panels already) was around $69. Friday morning, mid 20's, around 12mph south wind. Saw around 150-200 mallard by 9:30. In her first morning she shot 4 Mallard drake with 4 shots (3", Winchester Super X, #2, Modified Choke). What I love more than anything is that I have a WELL rounded woman. She works, does incredibly too much at our daughters' school, is a Girlscout leader, full time mommy, and now had decided she would rather be in the duck blind rather than sleeping to 8:00 a.m. on any day she has off. Im proud of her... She is also better than my other partners. She brought coffee and fresh pumpkin bread into the blind on the first day. She then warmed the bread on the Heater Buddy and poured me coffee... She is a keeper. And of course it doesnt hurt that she looks like this and looks just as good in camo. She is the best looking hunting partner I have ever had. That never hurts. From this....... To this.... life is good. :cool2: Friday 12/27/2013 Her first ducks ever. I let her do a lot of the shooting. Perfect conditions, moderate to good duck numbers. We kept a green head to have mounted for her. The 4 in front of her are all hers. She made sure I kept them separate. Sunday, 12/29/2013. COLD north wind, 35mph. Most shots were crossing from ducks flying like bullets. Some came directly overhead, face into the wind but it made for 35-40 yard vertical shots. I limited, she shot 1. It was a tough morning but didnt upset her. She was hunting with a fever and the cough too. Sick as a dog.... thats my girl! We have until January the 23rd or something like that. I will be posting more pictures! Our Goose season runs into February so I will get pics of hopefully for that too.

I typically shoot at least one deer a year. If by late season I havent shot a decent buck I take the chance to shoot a doe. This year has been different. Work has been insane. Our work load/ sales have literally almost doubled from last year, increasing by millions, with a single person added to the work force. Life has been insane busy. And the last part of our rifle season we had ice and snow to the point I couldnt get to the lease or the ranch. We still have bow until the 15th but honestly....im letting this year slide. Just WAY too much going on and it doesnt seem to bother me like I thought it would. Maybe im just getting old... Anyone else call this year a wash?

I think a lot of people either dont take pride or lack the skill set of good craftsmanship anymore. It just a job. Years ago a lot of "jobs" like that were art and people were more dedicated. Same goes for saddle makers, etc.

No clue.... no help, sorry.... But thank you for your service!

We are going to be hammered by the cold front tomorrow. There is going to be a line through Okieland. The north side of the state gets 3"-6" of snow. The south side will get between 1/4" - 1" of sleet and ice. Our low on Monday is 8 with a negative wind chill....

I hope it works out! Good luck.

Need input quickly. I plan on ordering by tomorrrow.. I have had a pair of Bass Pro Waders for around 4-5 years. I caught them on sale several years ago for $89.99 and bought a pair. They are normally $149.99. They have been decent to good. I think I got my money out of them. However, I found out this past weekend they now have 3 leaks! RedHead® Classic Series II Neoprene Boot-Foot Waders for Men, Ladies or Youth - Camo | Bass Pro Shops Rogers makes good stuff (or so im told). They have their waders on sale for $129.99. Good reviews around the web but they just came out last year so there arent a lot of people talking about it. The waders also have more bang for the buck (hand warming pocket, double d-rings, etc). Fleece Lined 3.5mm Therma Bond Neoprene Rogers Toughman Waders - Regular, 20300 Rogers Sporting Goods Cabela's Neo Stretch is the same price as the BP model, $149.99. Good reviews on their website. Never owned a pair. Cabela's 3mm Neostretch™ Neoprene Chest Waders with Lug Soles - Regular : Cabela's Knowing that the BP model works fine i really dont want to bump up the price point. Also, I just bought my wife some She Wear stuff and ouch... Trying to keep it moderate. What say ye?

OUCH... I was with you until you started talking about the procedure! Dude.. rough. Hope you are feeling better.

We bit the bullet and both of the girls are signed up. The wife is going to be a troop leader for our youngest. It was the only way she could get involved because of no leader for that age group. Gracey had a blast at Rushmore earning badges so im sure she will really enjoy this... Even if it is for a few years it is a good chance for our girls to spend time with the wife.

That does look good! Nice work...

Growing like a weed! So cool.... Mine are growing too. It sure does go fast....

My oldest (8 in the first part of October) is asking to join Girl Scouts. We are headed to a meeting to see what it is all about. Anyone have kids or had kids in the scouts? What say ye? Good, Bad? My wife and know no one in the Scouts so we are lost. town so there is already a bad stigma about it locally.....
