  1. Was able to add to my Browning A-5 (mini) collection this past week. Added a 16 gauge "humpback" Browning to my two 12 gauges. Got a pretty good deal and it's in real good shape for a 1960s model. No vent rib but the engraving is still crisp. It was quite dirty internally, so I took a few hours taking it apart and cleaning it on Saturday. Little bit more to do but it's A LOT better now. Can't stand a dirty weapon. Got a question for you guys. The bluing has worn thin in a number of spots, especially along the top of barrel. Does it adversly impact the value of an old gun to restore the bluing?
  2. Re: Colt Auto 25 I'm here, just had a long weekend...here's the pictures of the two pistols I talked about above
  3. Re: Colt Auto 25 I'll post a picture tomorrow. My Colt Auto 25 has a serial number of 354045 and has about a 4 inch barrel - definitely pocket size. It has plastic grips and is hammerless. I've also got a S&W Model 732 (32 cal revolver) that I'll post a picture of that I'd like your comments on. I appreciate all the help!!
  4. Re: Bluing or browning OK I finally got down in the basement to look at the bottles. I used Laurel Mountain Forge Barrel Brown and Degreaser. Worked great and looks great.
  5. Re: My Son\'s First time in the Blind Nothing like your first hunting memories of hunting with Dad!!
  6. Re: Bluing or browning Give me another day -- I'm struggling with a cold and so I didn't get to it yesterday. My nose was running much faster than my feet!!
  7. When my father-in-law passed away we found a Colt Auto 25 and a S&W 32 cal revolver. When I was at a Gun Show this last weekend I saw someone trying to sell an Auto 25 (looked just like the one I have) for $1025. Is that what they are worth?? I thought I'd looked it up earlier and it wasn't half that? Anyone out there help me out?
  8. Re: Bluing or browning ZooBear - I browned the barrel of my Hopkins and Allen about a year ago. I'll have to check to see what I used when I get home today and I'll get back with you. It was pretty easy and it really looks nice. If I had to do it over again I'd brown it again!
  9. Re: AJ - Remington 760? Thanks AJ -- my bid $350 wasn't high enough, someone paid $360 Oh well I'll keep looking. I was out at the range the past weekend and did some shooting with my 300 WSM and .243. Got 'em both in the zip code on the target, now I just need to keep practicing.
  10. Re: My Son\'s First time in the Blind One thing to consider when you do is do everything you can to ensure it's an enjoyable experience. I actually cancelled the first attempt to take my son out because the temp was going to be too low. They can learn to rough it after they get hooked. It doesn't take many satisfying trips to get them hooked, in my son's case I think that number is 1.
  11. AJ I've always wanted a Remington Model 760 (30.06)...what's does the bluebook say a used one in good condition goes for?
  12. Re: My Son\'s First time in the Blind Have I asked you (clayman) what part of MN you from? I grew up in Ruthton, MN that's a VERY small town down in SW MN along Hwy 23 between Pipestone and Marshall
  13. Re: My Son\'s First time in the Blind Here's a picture - a little dark - that happens when the sun goes down :-)
  14. Re: My Son\'s First time in the Blind clayman - I grew up in MN and what you describe in your email is exactly what we did as kids when my Dad would hunt. Some of my fondest memories are those days hunting with Dad, even those before I was old enough to carry a gun.
  15. Re: deer heart We've saved them and eaten them for years, my son (9 yrs) just love it. We clean it up good, just boil it and then slice it cross ways to make great sandwich size slices - put a slice of onion on it with a little salt and pepper and you'll be coming back for seconds.
  16. Yesterday was my last chance to go out to the goose blind for the season. The weather was warm (50s) so I decided to take my son (9 yr old) out with me. I was hunting with another hunter who had also brought along his son (5 yr old). The afternoon started pretty slow but about 4:30 we called two groups in over the course of about 15 minutes period, and we put 9 birds on the ground (resident Canada Geese). The boys were all smiles. They couldn't get enough pictures taken afterward -- you'd swear they'd done the shooting. Great time!!
  17. Re: HOW MANY HAVE USED A SHOTGUN FOR DEER HUNTING ?? I'm not a big fan of buckshot -- MUCH prefer slugs. Understand in some situations there is a need for buckshot. Lost a doe once using buckshot -- probably wouldn't have happened had I been using a slug.
  18. Re: HOW MANY HAVE USED A SHOTGUN FOR DEER HUNTING ?? Hunting Shotgun slug season for years in SW MN -- took a lot of deer. But the season is only a couple of days, so I talked my brothers/Dad into switching over to the ML season (16 days) and not near as many pumpkins in the field if you know what I mean.
  19. Re: Does anyone still use open sights ?? The places I hunt during muzzle loader season only allow open sights. I've gone to fiber optic or peep on all my hunting ML -- eyes aren't what they used to be. Still good out to just over 100 yards
  20. Re: AJ APPRECIATION POST Now if he only knew how to shoot!
  21. Re: Bluing a ML kit question I browned my last barrel and I'll never blue a ML again. It really came out looking great!!
  22. Re: AJ APPRECIATION POST He's got my vote -- hey AJ we'll be looking for someone to replace "W" in four years, you interested??
  23. Re: Just cleaned my A-5 Because the barrel moves to the rear in order to eject the spent shell you'll normally get a wear mark in the blueing along each side of the barrel. Are these the scratches you're talking about?
  24. Can't miss the hump back -- love those Browning A-5s!!! I've got three of them. Hard to get old ones with the original stocks because the forestock tends to crack near the receiver. This one looks GREAT!! Nothing like the feel of shooting a old Browning.
  25. Re: Savage Weather Warrior Series? I just purchased a Weather Warrior, black synthetic stock, SS barrel about a month ago. I bought the package so I got the scope on it, however I've replaced it with a Leupold and put the one from the Savage on my ML. I've only shot a half a box of ammo through it yet, but so far I've been impressed. Especially with the trigger.
