Re: New Owner of a Mossberg 835 It's not new, but it looked to be in pretty good shape. Won't know for sure until I get my hands on it. I was looking for something to pump 3 1/2 inch shells through for goose season.

Re: Best all around shotgun low budget I love my Browning A5s but I don't think I've EVER made a better buy than my Remington 870 Express. Low cost, low maintenance and extremely versatile!! You can't go wrong with an 870 in my opinion.

Just purchased a Mossberg 835 (3.5 inch capable) in Wetland Camo. Haven't gotten my hands on it yet but if the pictures do it justice it looks to be in very good shape. It has a 26 inch barrel and is ported. Bought it for $202...what do you think?

Re: Injured deer what to do? Yep better contact the DNR (game warden), but I can almost predict what they'll say. "Just leave her alone" We all hate watching an animal suffer, but I'll tell you that it is amazing how many of these animals survive. Over the years our hunting party has shot two three legged deer, and numerous others that showed signs of being injured either during hunting season or possibly by an a run-in with a car.

Re: pretty cool picture Don't you need a license plate on your vehicle in OK?

Re: ffl transfers? My guy charges $27. When I'm looking to buy a gun online I always take into consideration the cost of the FFL and Shipping in determining my top bid.

Re: Thank you! What a great looking gun! I just love Brownings -- and hard to beat a .243 for versatility. I think you made a great choice.

Re: Finally...an AR that makes sense. Doc I'm with you all the way. I think we need to take a good look at what our hunting objectives are. Are we trophy management or deer management? If we continue to push this agenda of BIG bucks I think we are in trouble. Our agenda should be herd management. That's how you'll build the support of the general public. If all they see is our desire to harvest Big bucks I think they'll have a harder time supporting our activities.

Re: I got your stinkin magnum.... I've heard about that round...it not only kills the animal, but it also field dresses, skins, debones and cooks your game all at the same time ;-) I think I'll stick to what I have.

Re: muzzleloading for elk I use the hollow point and it performed very well on the large muley buck I shot while out there. I used a 295 gr on him. Never got the chance to see how they worked on elk -- tag didn't taste too good either ;-) About 6 years ago Bluelk (previous Moderator) convinced me to use loose powder over pellets and so I've been using Pyrodex RS Select ever since. I've got about a 1/2 dozen quick loaders that I put my premeasured loads in, and it works just fine. Just be very consistent in measuring out your loads.

Re: muzzleloading for elk May want to see how your gun handles the 348 gr PB bullet. I found that my T/C blackdiamond handled both quite well. When I went out to Idaho to hunt elk/deer I was prepared to shoot either. I was sighted in 2 inches high at 100 with my 295 gr and right on with my 348 gr. Just a thought.

Re: Finally...an AR that makes sense. Where I hunt in MN I don't believe this would work. When you hunt terrain that has little to no trees there is VERY little hunting done from a stand other than bow hunters that have an extended season that can wait for an opportunity for a deer to come past the only tree in the section (square mile). Most gun hunters that I know spot and stalk, or push draws, thickets and cornfields in order to get their deer. Most shots are when the deer is on the move. Not much of an opportunity to judge antler size, just buck or doe. I haven't heard any talk of southern MN going to any kind of antler restriction. Having said that -- really big antlered bucks are few and far between.

Re: A quick cooking question I do like johnf outlined above. I top mine off with some bleu cheese crumbled on top.

Re: 870 Youth Model The shorter barrel is important for those with limited upper body strength. I know when my son tries to shoot a gun with a regular length barrel he has a tendancy to lean back in order to counter the weight. With a short barrel his form improves dramatically.

Re: Browning BPS ? Thanks for the info guys! I'll let you know if the deal goes down. Right now I'm looking at the 12 gauge 3 1/2 inch capable. Keeps me from having to keep another gauge of ammo in the house.
-
I've been thinking about adding to my gun locker by adding a Browning BPS, black synthetic stock, 3 1/2 inch shell capable. This is my solution to my need for a 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge or a 10 gauge for my fall goose hunting. Anyone have any thoughts or comments on the BPS?

Re: white mallard Was with a group that shot a Canada Goose with even lighter colors than the on in dogdoc's picture. It was basically a white goose with just the faintest of Canada Goose markings. I'll see if I can track down a picture. There was actually two of them in the flock, but we only knocked one of them down. It was the same day that 6 of us shot 30 geese of which 7 were banded. Now that was a good day!

Re: how many deer? Allowed one per person in MN, so our party of 5 shot 5 (2 were downed by me).

Re: i hate college!!!!!! Necessary evil to enable you to pay for all the hunting gear you'll be buying over your lifetime ;-)

Re: Pictures of a couple of recent hunts Same with the geese. We were laying in layout blinds with willows at our back. So we had a couple of flights come in from behind us. I just love the sound geese make as they come in low over your head.

Re: Pictures of a couple of recent hunts For the ducks we had almost a perfect morning for it. Sitting on a little impoundment (about 30 yards across) with about a foot of water in it and it was a little foggy with visibility down to about 1/4 mile. Mallards were dropping in on us before we even had a chance to see them. With the geese we had an overcast morning -- a little trouble with a front end loader about 150 yards from us, but we did manage to get two groups of 3 into the decoys and only one managed to make it out to live another day. Ducks were sure good eating!

Re: .222 or .223 or .243 I hunted fox/coyotes for years with a .222 and absolutely loved it. If you are just going to hunt varmits its a nice little gun. However, if you have any thoughts to use it on larger game, I'd invest in a .243. There is plenty of ammo choices out there for a .243 that will allow you to match bullets to anything from fox to deer.

Here's a picture of me and my son following a morning hunt in PA Here's a picture of an old Army buddie of mine and me following our MD goose hunt

Re: Would ya? I'd recommend you pull the breach plug and look for any rust around the plug and threads as well as down the barrel. Even just shooting one shot through the gun if it wasn't cleaned correctly would cause problems over time.

Re: Colt Commando Looks a lot like the .38s the aviators used to carry until they issued us 9mm. I think ours were S&W though. Nice shooting little gun.
