Ya, I've had my fill of driving for a while. Wife and I traded off straight through, but the way back her back was really bugging her, so I drove the majority of it....longest stretch I drove 14 hours straight with an occasional gas fill to stretch my legs (2pm till 4am). Takes about 22 hours one way.

Yep, we came down from Fargo, ND on I29 till Kansas City, and shot over to St Louis on I70, then I64 to Mt. Vernon-IL , then I57 to Marion. Then it was down to Peducah-KY on past Clarksville-TN on I24, and then got on I40 at Nashville, through Knoxville and turned off at Greensville. On the way back we headed up I75 from Knoxville through Lexington-KY, Cincinnati-OH to Indianapolis-IN....from there we grabbed I65 to Chicago and then on to I90 to Rockford and through Benoit and Madison-WI and then I94 through Miineapolis/St. Paul and right on home.

Is there any members of these forums that live in the Greeneville area ?? I didn't even think of this before hand, because it seems like everything was a rush, but we just got back from a weeks vacation in the Bulls Gap area, visiting the inlaws and doing some quick site seeing. Wish I'd have given it some thought before hand, but I guess we really were crunched for time, but it would have been cool to meet some members.....will make it a point next time though. Was cool to see the Bristol Speedway before Saturdays Busch Series, and watch the jets fly over. I know being such a history buff, I could spend a couple of months down there no problem. I'll give a shout out to all the fine folks at Phillipi Church as well (spelling) including Pastor Roger Dalton....some of the kindest and nicest folks I've met.

I will definitely be coming to you guys for advice as I get more serious about my spot shooting. Tony, some good frineds of mine have been going to Vegas for a couple of years now, and I think I am gonna look at going maybe next year. The experience would be fantastic. We just got back from a week vacation down in Tennessee (came through your neck of the woods Tony), so I thought I would check if the results were posted from the past two tourneys.... My first comp-vegas 298-17x garnered a 1st place in BHFS:) I'm still waiting to see how my last two scores faired at the next tourney...... On another note, a feable spot round managed a 3rd place finish, and one of my best efforts in 3d for a couple of years got me a 2nd place. Been shooting really well this year, I just need to pick up my practices and peak at the State Indoor in a couple of weeks.

Thanks guys. This year I've switched to gap shooting, or what some might call "bracketing". When I used to shoot one pin, I found myself having a hard time holding in the vicinity of the x...even floating. My subconscious just seemed to want to pull out of there so I could see the x, I guess......now gapping allows me the ability to see the x and still concentrate on the shot. I've really been happy with the results so far. And I'm a trigger banger to boot....wish I could muster the courage to try back tension, but I don't think I have the patience to learn it.

I've only shot this round 4 times ever, and the last three times have been in competition this year. I am in BHFS, while gap-shooting with two red pins and three weeks ago I shot a 298-17x. Then this weekend I shot BHFS again and managed a 297-18x.....it felt pretty good, so I bumped up a class to FS with the same equipment and shot a 299-17x. I know it's not Las Vegas caliber tension and pressure, but I'm still tickled pink. So now I know the 5-spot target is all in my head, because I have always been a high 40's low 50's x-shooter, and after shooting these Vegas rounds, I realize I can do much better. I just seem to concentrate harder on Vegas than a 5-spot....and I guess I always knew I blew lots of x-s due to concentration. I'm just gonna have to buckle down a little harder on the 5-spot:D mean while my goal is to shoot a 300 vegas score and hopefully cross into the 20x+ before summer hits.

For sure nobody doubts your "Pain Credentials" Norm...nobody should have to go through what you have. As for me, I was scheduled for back surgery 2 years ago and chickened out. I have two completely degenerated disks with several bone spurs on two vertebrae, from the bone on bone contact. The worst is while hunting, and I step into a hole or low spot I don't see and my back get's jarred from the unexpected stop..... I will agree, that physical therapy does help some.....not so much the constant pain in my case, but keeps the back from unexpectedly giving out.....I can remember standing with my wife, looking at toys at Walmart, and my back just gave out, dropping me to my knees. A stretching regimen with light workouts, has helped keep those occurences to a minimum. Oh ya.....the years as a concrete finisher, definately did not help me, but also the several winters of swinging a sledge hammer in odd angles, to loosen frozen coal from train cars and the hopper doors, did not help either.

Moosedog, what are the possibilities that the 1st and 3rd pic are of the same buck ?!?!? Look close at where that "xtra main beam" comes off at, and the curl of that tine could be masked by the camera angle....something to think about.....

Thanks everyone....we've also found out that the TV is not safe when the Outdoor Channel is on, LOL:D
-
His draw is a little long, LOL....might have to shorten up the rubber tube:D
-
I forgot to add, that is wasn't untill fairly recently, that we realized he was left handed........and when he first opened his gift, I originally showed him how to shoot it right handed, but watched as he quickly moved to shooting it left handed, LOL

I'm sorry it took me so long to get my deer logged in guys......but I just went in a did it. If you haven't yet, be sure to do so before you forget......hopefully we can be in the running. -
Well, the wife and I spoiled our littlest one (and only boy, LOL) with his first bow this Christmas......he is 2 years old, and man is he excited........you can't hardly get him to put it down. It doesn't matter what I put in front of him, he's has to shoot it, LOL......but I make sure all my kids have known that we have to know what we are shooting at......but back to my story..... The other night while watching TV, he managed to find one of my recent hunting magazines, and he stated he was "goona shoot dat deer", which we of course giggled about......so I proceeded to prop up the magazine, and I quickly grabbed my camera as he was about to take aim......this picture to me is priceless, LOL

I've had a Rem. 25-06 since I graduated high school....21 years now....and it is by far the best gun in my cabinet, and still my go-to rifle........I shoot 117gr PE rounds, and have logged a 313 ranged kill on an antelope as well as a 338 yard ranged shot on a bedded muley doe.....and can't even count allof the short range filled tags......everybody is right, fast and flat is the name of this calibers game. Up until this year, I've had the original straight 4x Weaver scope mounted on it as well.......after this season ended, I decided it was time to update the ol' girl, and picked up a smoking deal on a Sightron 3-9x42.......man, what a great scope. Can't wait for plinking some yotes now...
-
A good quality scope is the TC Hawkin scope.....1x power with I think a 32mm objective.....I really like mine.
-
I have an Encore, and have messed around some, and I'm getting excellent groups at 100 yards with 100gr (2 pellets) of 777 powder, with 250gr Shockwave sabots and Remington primers.
-
VTGRIZZ2006, You sure are making alot of assumptions from my simple questions......how about just answer the questions, and I'll take it from there. I spend plenty of time at the range, and know my own capabilities with each weapon, whether it be bow or gun.........I just wanted to get a feel for what everybody else's set-ups were, and how they performed....nothing less, nothing more.

With that being said, what is the furthest you have shot it, and where was the impact ?? Example: If you shoot out to 200 yards, is the impact like 10" lower than at 100 ??
-
Ok, all you smokepole addicts that use optics........for those of you that shoot out to 200 yards, even if it is just for practice, what yardage are you zeroing your scope at ?? Where is your point of impact at 100, 150 and say 200 yards ??
