  1. Yea, saw that. CONGRATS to him. I want to do that hunt sooooo bad. I would love to get one on the wall. Was this his first time applying? I think this was my 6th year getting rejected. Good luck to him and I can't wait to see the pictures and read the story.
  2. Results from New Mexico's draw are now posted. Good luck to all who applied.
  3. My '06 D-Max water tempature normally runs just below the 210 mark. Last weekend I noticed that while driving at highway speeds it was a little cooler than that and then when I slowed down or just driving in town it was running around 160 and would fluctuate up and down depending on if moving or not. I spoke with our mechanic at work about it, and we both decided it was either the thermostat or the guage. Figured the easy thing to do would be switch out the thermostat first. Went to buy one, and O'reilly's didn't have it in stock and said they would order the "kit". What kind of kit do you need for a thermostat? Went back the next day to get my kit and it turned out to be two thermostats. They are installed back to back with one of them having two small bypass holes in it. What is the reason for two thermostats? BTW, that fixed my temperature problem.
  4. Now I understand why you didn't/couldn't talk with me. Wow, just think of the stories you can come up with in the next 10 years. Don't worry about Alaska, it will be there next year, take care of yourself so you can enjoy it then. Continued thoughts and prayers for you.
  5. Thoughts and prayers Steve, you will beat it.
  6. This is what I started using last year. Use a blade till it either brakes or dulls pop it off and put a new one on. Worked great on my elk last year. Hope it does the same this year.
  7. After a couple of week long tease, AZGFD has finally posted the results for the elk and antelope draw. This was the first draw for them since they started taking online applications again and it hasn't gone real smooth. I would love to say I got a tag, but since the website is overloaded with traffic I can't even get in to check it. Since my credit card didn't get charged I am pretty sure all I got was another point, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Good luck to the rest of you that have applied.
  8. Uh...yea looks like you were right. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. CB is right. Today is the deadline for you to get your application in for the draw or to gain a preference point. For those that are planning on attending this elk hunt, don't fret, this tag is over the counter and can be purchased up until the day before the hunt at any local retailer or online from the wildlife department. I got my points application in a couple of weeks ago.

  19. Go to the big game and exotics forum down a little ways on the page from this one and you will find a little information there on an elk hunt. If that doesn't answer some of your questions, start a new thread there and I am sure you will get a few responses.
  20. Just in case you missed it, here is the link. http://www.realtree.com/forums/big-game-exotics/107902-forum-2012-colorado-elk-hunt.html
  21. You really have two options: 1. The OTC tags become available on July 10th. At that time you can purchase them online from CPW and they will be mailed to you. If you go this route be sure to do it early enough for you to receive them in the mail, (couple of weeks before you plan on leaving). 2. Arrive in Colorado on the 19th are earlier and buy them from a dealer in person. Either way be sure to get the habitat stamp.
  22. All I can say about Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs etc. is to look west and enjoy the view.
  23. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
  24. On the GPS, the topo maps and land ownership are nice, but if I thought this was my only hunt out west in the foreseeable future, I would not spend the money on a new one. If you want a topomap, go to www.mytopo.com and you can custom design a topo map in any size imaginable to carry with you or leave at camp as a reference. On boots, yes you will probably be hiking. Probably in snow. Probably in 20 degree or lower weather. Dress accordingly. I would suggest some insulation of some type. Besides good optics, boots are probably the second most important item to keep your hunt going smoothly. Cold feet or blistered feet will end a hunt or make you miserable.
