Just a thought. (Dale Jr. and points)

Re: Just a thought. (Dale Jr. and points) The first 25 point docking was pretty much erased when the points were reset for the C4C. You would have to go back and see if the 25 points would have gained him any positions after the 26th race. If it would have then it would only be worth 5 points per position gained. -

The infraction was discovered by NASCAR officials during opening-day inspection.

Poll at bottom of thread NASCAR to allow distilled spirits sponsorships in 2005 From Press Release November 10, 2004 09:32 AM EST (14:32 GMT) DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- After conducting an extended review of its sponsorship policies and researching trends in consumer attitudes, NASCAR on Wednesday announced that distilled spirits products are now a new category for sponsorship in the sport beginning in the 2005 season. "We felt the time was right to allow distilled spirits companies into NASCAR," said NASCAR president Mike Helton. "Attitudes have changed, and spirits companies have a long record of responsible advertising. "Any spirits company involved in NASCAR will have marketing campaigns strongly grounded in responsibility and will follow advertising and marketing guidelines set by NASCAR that are consistent with the Distilled Spirits Council's advertising code. "Spirits companies are recognized as leaders in responsibility and are encouraging adults who choose to drink, to do so responsibly. We are confident that the spirits companies entering our sport will come to apply that same level of responsibility to their involvement in NASCAR, and will communicate the same responsible marketing and messages that beer companies have exhibited in the sport for the past 25 years," Helton said. "Additionally, this will provide numerous new sponsorship opportunities to our teams. While the NASCAR industry will benefit across the board, teams will be the primary beneficiaries of this decision in a way that promotes a responsible drinking message consistent with the practices in other motorsports." NASCAR's internal review included outreach to advocacy groups such as the National Commission Against Drunk Driving and other experts in the field of alcohol-related issues. Additionally, NASCAR reached out to industry groups such as the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) and The Century Council. NASCAR based its guidelines on the input received from these groups. The distilled spirits companies participating in NASCAR must agree to comply with the Distilled Spirits Council's "Code of Responsible Practices for Beverage Alcohol Advertising and Marketing" and abide by the Code Review Board's decisions. Each company's marketing activities will be grounded in a responsible behavior message. A dedicated portion of advertising by spirits companies in NASCAR will be solely focused on encouraging responsible drinking decisions, with all remaining advertising including a responsible behavior tag.

Re: Junior caught at Pheonix. This is what is being said on Jayski's Earnhardt's Windshield too thin UPDATE: NASCAR officials confiscated the windshield from Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s #8 Budweiser Chevy over the weekend. According to spokesman Mike Zizzo, the windshield was too thin and not approved. A penalty is likely, but to what extent will be determined by Nextel Cup series director John Darby, Zizzo said. The penalty should be announced this week.(ThatsRacin.com)(11-7-2004) UPDATE: the windshield was NOT run in the race, it was taken 'over the weekend'. Minimum thickness is 1/4".(11-9-2004)

Re: Man I\'m so sad [ QUOTE ] The Atlanta crash wasn't what I was refering to. I mean the Talladega incident. I got to thinking. Maybe, just maybe, Junior doesn't deserve the championship this year. I can't believe I just typed that. He swore at Talladega (-25). Add that, and now he is 22 points behind Kurt Busch. Say he hung on and finished, well, give him 5th at Atlanta, drop him just a couple spots. Plus, say he finishes 20th at Martinsville. He would be about 108 points ahead in the standings. If Junior doesn't win the championship, it's his own fault. By the way, even if he still got 33rd at M-Ville, he'd be 69 points ahead. [/ QUOTE ] Huh, are you flip-flopping on me now? I have seen replays of the Atlanta deal, and it just doesn't look to me like Jr. did anything wrong. I think the 99 came down on him, and Jr. said what he did so he didn't lose anymore points by saying something wrong. Jr. wins the title followed by Gordon in a close second, rubberhead falls to third.

Re: Big moose This is what the B & C website says about it. Big Moose on Campus November 5, 2004 Yes, this gigantic bull moose IS as big as he looks. Eric Arnette was fortunate enough to bag this bull on Sept. 5th in the Kilbuck Mountains (400 miles west of Anchorage). First reports on this monster are that he is 75 inches wide, has 36 scoreable points, and could challenge the World's Record at more than 260 B&C! We'll make sure and keep you posted. Stay tuned! Sounds legit.

Darwin award nominees, posted September 29, 2004 <>Hard to believe, but another year has passed. Once again, it's time for the Darwin Award Nominees. The Darwin's are awarded every year to the persons who died in the most stupid manner, thereby removing themselves from the gene pool. This year's nine nominees are: Nominee No. 1: [san Jose Mercury News]: An unidentified man, using a shotgun like a club to break a former girlfriend's windshield, accidentally shot himself to death when the gun discharged, blowing a hole in his gut. <>Nominee No. 2: [Kalamazoo Gazette]: James Burns, 34, (a mechanic) of Alamo, MI, was killed in March as he was trying to repair what police describe as a "farm-type truck." Burns got a friend to drive the truck on a highway while Burns hung underneath so that he could ascertain the source of a troubling noise. Burns' clothes caught on something, however, and the other man found Burns "wrapped in the drive shaft." <>Nominee No. 3: [Hickory Daily Record]: Ken Charles Barger, 47, accidentally shot himself to death in December in Newton, NC. Awakening to the sound of a ringing telephone beside his bed, he reached for the phone but grabbed instead a Smith & Wesson 38 Special, which discharged when he drew it to his ear. <>Nominee No. 4: [uPI, Toronto]: Police said a lawyer demonstrating the safety of windows in a downtown Toronto skyscraper crashed through a pane with his shoulder and plunged 24 floors to his death. A police spokesman said Garry Hoy, 39, fell into the courtyard of the Toronto Dominion Bank Tower early Friday evening as he was explaining the strength of the building's windows to visiting law students. Hoy previously has conducted demonstrations of window strength according to police reports. Peter Lawson, managing partner of the firm Holden Day, told the Toronto Sun newspaper that Hoy was "one of the best and brightest" members of the 200-man association. (Nice to see another Canadian province getting into the awards.... The Maritimes always have been heavily involved.) Nominee No. 5: [bloomberg News Service]: A terrible diet and a room with no ventilation are being blamed for the death of a man who was killed by his own gas emissions. There was no mark on his body, and an autopsy showed large amounts of methane gas in his system. His diet had consisted primarily of beans and cabbage (and a couple of other things). It was just the right combination of foods. It appears that the man died in his sleep from breathing the poisonous cloud that was hanging over his bed. Had he been outside or had his windows been opened, it wouldn't have been fatal. But the man was shut up in his nearly airtight bedroom. According to the article, "He was a big man with a huge capacity for creating "this deadly gas." Three of the rescuers got sick, and one was hospitalized. Nominee No. 6: [The News of the Weird]: Michael Anderson Godwin made News of the Weird posthumously. He had spent several years awaiting South Carolina's electric chair on a murder conviction before having his sentence reduced to life in prison. While sitting on a metal toilet in his cell attempting to fix his small TV set, he bit into a wire and was electrocuted. (South Carolina entrants are always perennial favorites.) <>Nominee No. 7: [The Indianapolis Star]: A cigarette lighter may have triggered a fatal explosion in Dunkirk, IN. A Jay County man, using a cigarette lighter to check the barrel of a muzzle loader, was killed Monday night when the weapon discharged in his face, sheriff's investigators said. Gregory David Pryor, 19, died in his parents' rural Dunkirk home at about 11:30 PM. Investigators said Pryor was cleaning a 54-caliber muzzleloader that had not been firing properly. He was using the lighter to look into the barrel when the gunpowder ignited. Nominee No. 8: [Reuters, Mississauga, Ontario]: A man cleaning a bird feeder on the balcony of his condominium apartment in this Toronto suburb slipped and fell 23 stories to his death. Stefan Macko, 55, was standing on a wheeled chair when the accident occurred, said Inspector D'Arcy Honer of the Peel Regional Police. "It appears that the chair moved, and he went over the balcony," Honer said. (Another Ontario entry.... I wonder if people are moving there from the Maritime Provinces.) Finally, THE WINNER!!!: [Arkansas Democrat Gazette]: Two local men were injured when their pickup truck left the road and struck a tree near Cotton Patch on State Highway 38 early Monday. Woodruff County deputy Dovey Snyder reported the accident shortly after midnight Monday. Thurston Poole, 33, of Des Arc, and Billy Ray Wallis, 38, of Little Rock, were returning to Des Arc after a frog gigging trip on an overcast Sunday night when Poole's pickup truck headlights malfunctioned. The two men concluded that the headlight fuse on the older-model truck had burned out. As a replacement fuse was not available, Wallis noticed that the .22 caliber bullet from his pistol fit perfectly into the fuse box next to the steering-wheel column. Upon inserting the bullet the headlights again began to operate properly, and the two men proceeded on eastbound toward the White River Bridge. After traveling approximately 20 miles, and just before crossing the river, the bullet apparently overheated, discharged, and struck Poole in the testicles. The vehicle swerved sharply right, exiting the pavement, and striking a tree. Poole suffered only minor cuts and abrasions from the accident, but will require extensive surgery to repair the damage to his testicles, which will never operate as intended. Wallis sustained a broken clavicle and was treated and released. "Thank God we weren't on that bridge, or we might both be dead," stated Wallis. "I've been a trooper for 10 years in this part of the world, but this is a first for me. I can't believe that those two would admit how this accident happened," said Snyder. Upon being notified of the wreck, Lavinia (Poole's wife) asked how many frogs the boys had caught and did anyone get them from the truck??? (Though Poole and Wallis did not die as a result of their misadventure as normally required by Darwin Award Official Rules, it can be argued that Poole DID, in fact, effectively remove himself from the gene pool.)

Re: BUSH WINS!!!! Sen. John Kerry called President George W. Bush to concede White House race, the Associated Press has learned. The phone call came after a long, tense night of vote counting -- with Ohio's 20 electoral votes at stake. Bush has maintained a lead of about 136-thousand votes in Ohio. Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry remained at his Beacon Hill home in Boston while his advisors met to evaluate his options. Bush, however, will wait to declare victory to give Sen. John Kerry time to reflect on the results of the election, Bush Chief of Staff Andrew Card told supporters early Wednesday morning. "We are convinced that President Bush has won reelection with at least 286 Electoral College votes," Card told cheering supporters at the Reagan Building in downtown Washington. "He also had a margin of at 3½ million popular votes." Kerry's side is waiting for the final numbers from Ohio, which has 20 electoral votes. Those votes are enough to propel Bush to victory or put Kerry closer to reaching the needed 270 votes to unseat the president. It could be a week and a half before there's official word on who claimed Ohio. At about 8 a.m. Wednesday, Bush led by about 135,000 votes. It was estimated that there were 135,000 provisional ballots uncounted, and that number could reach 175,000. Provisional ballots are filed by those who have a problem at the polls but who believe they should be eligible. State law says they cannot be counted until 10 days after the election. There are also absentee ballots that have not been tabulated because of heavy voting.

ATLANTA, Ga. – (Nov. 1, 2004) – Bass Pro Shops and Dale Earnhardt, Inc. have solidified their relationship even further with a multi-year agreement that will return the team's No. 1 Chevrolet into full competition. Bass Pro Shops is currently the primary sponsor on the Chance 2 Motorsports No. 8 Chevrolet driven by Martin Truex, Jr. in the NASCAR Busch Series. The newest agreement maps out a plan for Bass Pro Shops and Truex, Jr. for the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons. Truex, Jr, who currently leads the NASCAR Busch Series standings, will have Bass Pro Shops as the primary sponsor in all 35 Busch races in 2005 for Chance 2 Motorsports. In addition to the Busch endeavors, Bass Pro Shops will sponsor Truex, Jr. in seven Nextel Cup Series races next year, as well. The schedule tentatively calls for both Daytona and Talladega races, Michigan, Indianapolis and Homestead. In addition, they will be an associate sponsor on the No. 8 and No. 15 Nextel Cup teams of DEI. For the seven Cup races in 2005, Truex, Jr. will drive the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet for DEI. In 2006, Bass Pro Shops will then move to the Nextel Cup Series with Truex, Jr. and the No. 1 Chevrolet to compete on a full-time basis. The announcement was made at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday evening with representatives of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Chance 2 Motorsports and Bass Pro Shops on hand. “On behalf of Teresa Earnhardt, CEO and President of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and co-owner of Chance 2, we would like to thank Bass Pro Shops and their associates,” said Richie Gilmore, Director of Motorsports for DEI. “Because of the commitment they have made, DEI and Chance 2 can carry on the legacy of Dale Earnhardt and that's to compete at the top levels of NASCAR each week.” “All of us at Bass Pro Shops are extremely excited about our new sponsorship with Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Chance 2 Motorsports and Martin Truex, Jr.,” said Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shop founder. “Martin is not only a great driver, but he's also a super young man who has proven to be a great ambassador for Bass Pro Shops and the outdoors.” The No. 1 Chevrolet was the first Nextel Cup Series car fielded by Dale and Teresa Earnhardt for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. beginning in 1996. Since then, the No. 1 Chevrolet team has two victories and four Bud Pole Awards to its credit. When Truex, Jr. begins driving the No. 1 Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet in 2006, it will mark the team's return to full-time competition in the Nextel Cup Series since 2003. “Everything just keeps getting better and better with Bass Pro Shops and our race teams,” Truex, Jr. said. “To have them go from a part-time primary sponsorship to full time, and into the future like this, says a lot about them. I've really enjoyed getting to know Johnny Morris through this past year and all the great people I've met from Bass Pro around the country. “You can have all the best equipment, best team and best luck. But, you can't really do any of that without the best sponsor to help you along. We not only have that for next year, but for quite awhile as my career progresses through the NASCAR ranks. “In addition to Bass Pro, I'd like to thank Teresa Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and everyone at Dale Earnhardt, Inc. for their support along the way. The No. 1 team was the first Cup team that Dale and Teresa put on the track and I can't wait to drive it back into Victory Lane.” Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and Chance 2 Motorsports are two premier racing organizations headquartered in Mooresville, NC. DEI currently operates two NASCAR Nextel Cup teams with drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Michael Waltrip. The company also has one NASCAR Busch Series team with driver Paul Menard and co-owns Chance 2 with driver Martin Truex, Jr. For further information on DEI and its teams go to www.DaleEarnhardtInc.com. A major catalog and Internet retailer, Bass Pro Shops, headquartered in Springfield, MO, currently has 23 locations across the United States and attracts some 60 million visitors a year. New stores will soon open in Toronto, Canada; Las Vegas, NV and Harrisburg, PA. For more information on Bass Pro Shops go to www.basspro.com
