Re: Where\'s the outrage over base closures. So let me answer a question with a question - where exactly are we losing military jobs? I'm sorry but I can't find any myself. Here in Georgia we're closing 4 bases and netting a gain of 7500 military and civilian jobs. When Clinton closed bases they were closed for good - no transfers, no gains....just loses. You ask where the outrage is and I ask why would there be any? One thing I did find kinda funny - have you compared the closing/transferring of bases with the election maps? If not then I suggest you do so.....amazing how them blue states lost out and how those red states gained.

Re: Where\'s the outrage over base closures. This is simple Clinton CLOSED bases. Bush has PROPOSED closing bases.

Re: Why Politics & Religion Don\'t Mix. IMHO [ QUOTE ] WRONG...this nation started because people wanted to be FREE, and have a voice.....religion had nothing to do with it. may have had something to do with the laws, but had NOTHING to do with what led to our wanting seperation from England. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry but you’re wrong – Are we to assume this is now the history lessons being taught in public/government schools? The Pilgrims were English Separatists who founded Plymouth Colony in New England in 1620. In the first years of the 17th century, small numbers of English Puritans broke away from the Church of England because they felt that it had not completed the work of the Reformation. They committed themselves to a life based on the Bible. Most of these Separatists were farmers, poorly educated and without social or political standing. One of the Separatist congregations was led by William Brewster and the Rev. Richard Clifton in the village of Scrooby in Nottinghamshire. The Scrooby group imigrated to Amsterdam in 1608 to escape harassment and religious persecution. The next year they moved to Leiden, where, enjoying full religious freedom, they remained for almost 12 years. In 1617, discouraged by economic difficulties, the pervasive Dutch enfluence on their children, and their inability to secure civil autonomy, the congregation voted to emigrate to America. The people that came to this country came to escape religious persecution. It wasn't for some 150 years later that it was determined that a seperation from Englands govenmental controls (and taxes) was necessary. Freedom to "have a voice" was never a consideration but rather a result from the foundation of our Bill of Rights.

Re: News From Hometown. Shouldn\'t Have Happened. [ QUOTE ] Not so...I cant remember the name of the drug, but I'm pretty sure there is a pill or shot that is given to sexual pred. Its supposed to slow there adrenilin or something??? [/ QUOTE ] Lethal Injection works for me. I can't believe some on here - defending the rights of someone that would do these sorts of things to a child.

Re: Pres. Bush and sportsman Don't get me wrong - I voted for him twice but that doesn't mean I agree with everything he does. The reasons why? 1. He's a Republican 2. He's not a democrat 3. He wasn't Al Gore 4. He wasn't John Kerry There are 4 good reasons right there!

Re: Freedom of speech Wrong wtn - it's not a problem in "some" situations but rather a problem in "most" situations.
-
Re: Freedom of speech [ QUOTE ] but what is the line between "freedom" and opression [/ QUOTE ] Simple - the governing body.
-
Re: Freedom of speech Lets just remember this - with every freedom comes responsibilities - lets not get the two mixed up. In order for you to truely enjoy anc cherrish the freedom to speak out you must first be responsible enough to get your @ss kicked once you do. The problem with "Freedom of Sheech" isn't freedom - it's the lack of most American's not taking or being responsible for what comes out of their mouths.

An old Indian chief sat in his hut on the reservation, smoking a ceremonial pipe and eyeing two U.S government officials sent to interview him. "Chief Two Eagles" asked one official, "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done." The Chief nodded in agreement. The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?" The Chief stared at the government officials for over a minute and then calmly replied; "When white man found the land, Indians were running it. No taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, women did all the work, Medicine Man free, Indian man spent all day hunting and fishing, all night having sex." Then the chief leaned back and smiled ..... "Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that."

Re: Honest Question... Honest Answer..... I would register them if I had them but turns out I've sold 'em all.......bummer huh

I’m not sure if anyone caught Good Morning America this morning but it was the same story – the media is all in a frenzy about the new Pope. Charlie Gibson was interviewing an Ach Bishop, sorry the name escapes me but the last question to the Bishop was a flamer that good ole Charlie wasn’t expecting. I can’t remember the exact question but it had to do with American’s being upset because the new Pope was such a “hard-liner” when it came to homosexuality and women in the church and Bishop had this as a response. “It’s time that Catholics stopped getting listening to the media to get their scripture and more to the church” I’m guessing Charlie wasn’t ready for that one and thus the interview ended right then. What a response – I rolled in the floor laughing.

I say that if we don;t get back to a government that is elected by the people and is FOR THE PEOPLE then no, we won;t survive. What I find astounding is we continue to put representatives in place that do absoultly nothing for us! Most governments (history dictates) never last more than 200 years - we're working on borrowed time right now.

Re: YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK [ QUOTE ] With all this spending we should make our own group, request some aid and then each one of us could go on our "dream hunts". [/ QUOTE ] We can call it - The Realtree Send Everyone on a Hunt Foundation"! Now yer talkin'
-
Re: YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK For those that don't know - I coach Little League Baseball so ya think I could get on board with the Cal Ripken way and get me a little of that $3mil???

Re: Respect Let me just add my 2 bits worth. I disagree with the decission on adding religion to the political boards - they are two totally different subject and most of the time draw two totally different crowds - but it's been add'd so if you want to talk about it, your free to. But I ask that you remember Article II of the Bill of No Rights as it states - "You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be." And if you fully intend on discussing either of these two taboo topics - leave your feelings outside because if you bring 'em here, they're probably going to get hurt. PH

Re: The Royals... I have to wonder about people that would look up to someone (Charles) that went for Camilla over Diana.....the man has to be some kinda stupid. Other than that - don't care one bit. If they want to look up to Queens then I say we ship off all our gays to England - they'll have plenty of queens on their hands then...

Re: Quite a dilemma for the Army. NO - this only allows for even more segragation and that doesn't need to happen in the military. Keep your mouth shut and do your job, you're no better or worse that the next guy so stop trying to single yourself out.

Rumsfeld Supports Extended Careers, Longer Tours
ParrotHead replied to TreeStandBowHunter's topic in Politics
Re: Rumsfeld Supports Extended Careers, Longer Tours A vastly better military? Got to disagree - the constant rule in the military has always been to increase in rank or it you don't, you're outta here and that doesn't need to change. Having someone sit on one position doesn't make for a better military, it doesn't make for a better employee either. Knowledge and growth are key factors in success and uf you're not willing to achieve either then you're probably going to become worse and worse at what you're doing. -
http://www.cagw.org/site/PageServer?pagename=reports_pigbook2005 Every year the Citizens Against Government Waste publishes their annual list of federal pork-barrel spending. It's called the Congressional Pig Book – the link to the site and the full report are above. To get an idea where your hard-earned tax dollars are going, it's worth taking a look at what made this year's list. In a list of some 14,000 pork projects, supported by politicians of both parties, the total tab for this year's spending is $27.3 billion. With a national debt in the trillions and an annual deficit of hundreds of billions, this is all the more outrageous because it's borrowed money. So not only are politicians buying votes with pork-barrel spending, but they're financing it. So now future generations will pay interest on today's pork. At any rate, here are some of the projects that made the list: ·$3,000,000 for the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. That's interesting...I thought foundations were for private, charitable foundations. And since when is Cal Ripken's dad hurting for cash? ·$6,300,000 for wood utilization research. Now in a society and economy that relies on housing as the one of the sole indicators of how the economy is doing, you would expect we wouldn’t have to research how to use wood! ·$2,000,000 to buy back the Presidential Yacht, the USS Sequoia. What you want to guess we bought and paid for it once – now we have to buy it back? And has anyone seen this yacht? It’s nice but you can get a whole lot more yacht for 2 mil than what this one offers! ·$1.7 million for the International Fertilizer Development Center. With all the crap in Washington, you'd think they'd have all the free fertilizer they need. ·$100,000 for the Tiger Woods Foundation. Tiger Woods was the highest-paid athlete in the world last year, with earnings of $80 million. Why you and I need to kick in a hundred grand for his foundation is beyond me. The list goes on and on. There are some that are outraged at the list of wasteful spending, but just pause and ask yourself. Do you expect your Congressman or woman to "bring home the bacon?" Perhaps you're part of the crowd that thinks government spending is free money, and everyone should get their "fair share." Check out your state and see where the pork spending is going – you’ll be amazed. Oh, and when it comes to government spending, there no longer is any difference between Democrats and Republicans. In fact, Republicans are the biggest spenders in this nation's history. Write your Congressman today and request that they either get on board with the Republican plan of small government or they’ll be replaced shortly with someone that is on the plan!

Re: Update - Minutemen in Action [ QUOTE ] What I find the most interesting is that the same people who complain about 1.) Poor Americans drawing welfare and 2.) Mexicans coming across the border to make a better life and 3.) Complain about their tax dollars being used for the redistribution of wealth have no problem with 1.) Redistributing our wealth in destroying and then rebuilding a country (Iraq) 2.) Sending money to aid Tsunami victims, but, when the U.S. was called to task about the little money they initially sent that paled in comparison to other countries, you guys cried about that. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry – but it’s my money and I reserve the right to ****, moan and complain when I think it’s being spent wrong. What I can’t figure out is, if these “poor Americans” that have fallen on hard times and can’t get up need soooooooooo much help, you would figure that anyone coming to America with NOTHING in their pockets would have absolutely no chance of making it in America but they do. They go to work, the make money, they buy cars and homes, why can’t these “poor Americans” you refer to do the same **** thing? One reason and one reason alone – the hand-out crowd will remain the hand-out crowd until there are no more hand-outs. What you’re not seeing here is that we really don’t care if these people come over here, I think it’s great that they’re trying make a better living for themselves and their families. We just want them to do it LEGALLY! Become a citizen, pay your fair share of taxes and support this country as a citizen does. I welcome each and every one of them with open arms but to the one’s that do it illegally and put an enormous strain on our infrastructures I support the deportation, I support cutting them off at the border and if that means blood has to be shed to protect America from a foreign invasion then so be it.

Re: Update - Minutemen in Action Wait Sluggo - I was under the impression (that you gave) that we are all a bunch of gun toat'n hillbillies out to kill the first thing that moved! You know our motto "If it's brown, it's down"! Seems to work in this case also. So you're now telling us that maybe there's a few out there that aern't the way you've portrayed us to be? Now I will admit that I've had a little fun with this and especially at your expense. I would hope that you actually wouldn't believe that I was for the slaughtering of another person! Of course not, just round their butts up and send 'em packing. Course I will admit this, that the first American that gets shot defending their country from invasion them all bets are off - shoot 'em where they stand.

http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=3160467&nav=3YeXYE9Z Teachers have been grading papers with red ink since red ink was invented. Red is a warning. Red ink on a student's paper is a warning that someone is not doing their work and learning their material. Students turn in their work, it's graded and returned with corrections marked on it and a grade at the top. If you do well, you might get an A. If you fail, you get an F. That's how it usually has worked over the years right? Well it seems that the parents of kids at the Daniels Farm Elementary School in Trumbull, Connecticut are complaining that the red ink being used to grade papers is "too stressful." They call it a symbol of negativity. So the school, spineless as ever, has stopped using red ink. They're using other colors. The principal, Joseph Foriska, has instructed the teachers to write with more "pleasant-feeling tones." As you would expect, this is a government school. How on Earth are we preparing our kids for the real world when we're worried about their (and their parents') self-esteem over the color of ink used to grade their papers? We're turning out another generation of ignorant candy a***s who will be completely unable to discern the difference between a private investment account and one controlled by the government. Consider for a moment what our chances are if we continue to allow the government to educate our children.

Re: Minuteman project [ QUOTE ] No, it's called respect for human beings, of which you don't seem to have, which is not news to me and shouldn't be to anyone else on here. Hey parrothead, do us all a favor, go down to Mexico and then try to cross the border illegally, and try to be really sneaky about it, for the sake of all humanity. [/ QUOTE ] Someone's feeling a little sensative today I see....ok just for today we'll all play on the "criminals are people too" wagon. But tomorrow we'll all be back to shooting illegals. Oh and by the way, you haven't commented on my post about the illegal they found, gave water, food and medical care to. Maybe it was just a over-sight on your part, you wouldn't dodge something like that!
