Re: Tink\'s Scent Bombs? Tinks 69 is a good scent for the rut. The scent bombs with the intregal hanger & cloth is a brain storm. Wish I would have thought of it. It would have saved me from making my own out of old plastic black film canisters with a piece of plastic wire taped to it with black electrical tape & cotton balls stuffed inside. Now I have both. Seems like every year though there is one scent out there that seems to work better than others.

Re: Peep keeps twisting You can also consider a string loop. The string loop will consistently put the string and peep in the same place every time. Since your bow is new and it seems that it'not shot in yet, you may want to just shoot it anytime you can just to get the factory string stretched. Once it is then you can readjust your peep via a bow press and keep trying it until you get it where you want it.

Re: How do you deal with it????? Save 'em for the second season. That's what we do. It's like hunting season all over again.

Re: Peep keeps twisting Two things you can do, 1st, you can get a new string that does not twist or twist much such as a zebra string or a tailer made string. 2nd, I am assuming that your string is " shot in ", adust your twist so as to get it close then figure your rotation and pre rotate your peep to an angle using the arrow nock to hold this position. When you draw, your peep will square to you . It sounds alot harder than it is. I use this method on my 3-d bow. Good luck.

Finally got a nice 8 pt this morning on the last day of archery season in Pa. After what I thought was going to be a dismal year due to my work schedule and other obligations I was pleased with the time I did get in the woods. I actually think my conjested schedule kept me from getting in my stands early in the season and that may be the reason why we've seen good deer in our hunting spots this past two weeks which have been very active with rutting bucks. I think the lack of hunting pressure early may have actually helped me this year. It all started last Saturday when I hunted this stand and had a 130 class came in behind my creek bottom stand at 10 yards but a tree limb and ground brush kept me from getting the clean shot so he walked away with the doe he was with. My brother who saw the event unfold from the top stand was jumping up & down jestering if I had taken the shot. I had to give him the " no shot " sign. Later we got together and I explained that the limb and brush were a problem with the way these deer were coming up from behind the stand instead of in front. Sunday morning we were back trimming out the ground brush and we took out the tree limb. We let it sit most of the week with no one in either stand. With the rain yesterday it gave me the opportunity to sneak down to that creek bottom stand quickly with the wet leaves. After a very cold morning the deer started to move about 9:30 with a doe that immediately drew attention from my buck that came from nowhere . He caught me off guard while watching this doe through my bino's. I still had my glove on my shooting hand and could not get the string loop on my release with my glove and he was by me before I could take my glove off. He went up the hill and coralled the doe who luckly came back my way but on the trail farther away from me. I tried to stay calm and when she turned back towards me I knew the buck would follow and he would pass right by the same spot as the first time . This time I was ready and at full draw with the doe passing first and with a mouth bleet he stopped and the arrow was already there. The spot he stopped at was the very spot the 130 class was at with the ground brush. The buck went about 40 yards and went down in sight with the doe standing next to him for about 10 minutes before she wondered off. I got down about 30 minutes later just to make sure all the time keeping an eye on him through the bino's. If it was not for clearing this spot last Sunday this shot would not have been possible. The 130 class buck is still out there for my brother to hopefully get a crack at during the regular season and late season . As for my 8 pt. he is about a 100" buck with a 14" spread. I am very happy with him and the events that my brother and I shared that lead up to this point. PS : If I could get some help about posting pictures I would like to get one posted here.

Re: could not retreive my deer If you are sure that the deer did not get pushed out of the area by your initial search I would try looking for bedding areas, thick areas where he could feel safe with good visability from approaching danger, water; wounded deer will go to water especially if you can combine that with thick cover, and down hill; wounded deer prefer to travel easily taking trails and easy travel routes. If you know your hunting area well, ask yourself where you would want to recover from an injury ?

Re: Yes even i miss ! I sware that trees have some kind of magnitism to aluminum. Always seems like when you shoot close by a tree the arrow gets sucked into the tree . Never fails

Re: Will High Wind Effect Buck Movement During The Rut Deadeye is right. The animals out west are accustomed to high winds on a regular basis. High winds will deminish a deer's sense of smell and sound wich are two out of three things that deer count on to avoid danger. I would find a deep hollow or the protected side of the mountain where the winds are blocked and that is where the deer will go. HOWEVER, the rut is kicking in so plan on staying in your stand all day and see what happens. Older bucks will often lower their guard to chase a hot doe at a time when they normally would not chance being in danger. Let us know how you make out.

Re: TV programming The shows I watch which aren't many thanks to our local cable compnay don't show enough hunting footage to see a wounded animal let alone multiple shots. On a half hour show, I would bet that commercials make up approx. 20 minutes, narration about 5 minutes and about 5 minutes of actual hunting footage. GOT TO GET " THE DISH "

Re: probs with Encore in wet weather? I also have the Encore 209 x 50 and have never had a problem with foul weather hunting. Two things I would add to the previous posts are 1. don't bring your gun in and out of a warm enviroment, this will cause condensation. I always leave my gun in my garage ( unheated garage ) cased & locked. 2. Always wipe down your gun after you've been out in wet conditions or from condensation to avoid surface rust spots. The Encore's will not let you down. You have a good gun there.

Re: Muzzy Broadhead question No such thing as alot dead or alittle dead. Dead is dead. The only thing that worries me about non pass thru's is blood trails if the animal runs out of sight. An arrow that stays in has a poorer blood trail than an arrow that pass's thru. My opinion.

Re: Big muley pics Unbelievable !!!! Was it shot with a gun or bow ??

Re: Thompson Center Love my 209 x 50 and I am just sighting in my .308 barrel. Find the right bullet and these guns will shoot exceptionally well. I really like the one bullet shot. it adds to the hunt to know you don't have 4 or 5 rounds in the magazine.

Re: Problems with Montecs, anyone else have the same? If you can get Muzzy"s to fly for you, they are the ticket. Tried and true !!!

Re: I guess these things do happen I was reday to reply that you should look into hunting on private property but Buckee put a damper on that suggestion. I also have had my share of pedestrians interfering in early bow season. My most memorable was about ( 8 ) eight years ago, I had a beautiful 8 point coming in and people decided to venture onto the private property I was on which was bordering a local nature park. I had the buck at about 50 yards and the women who had her new born in one of those back sack indian things. The buck never made a sound, saw the women and sneaked out the area the opposite way I was. The women walked 5 yards from my tree stand never knowing I was there. Just one more thing you have to calculate into stand selection.

Re: Tip of The Week Just to add something along this line, If you don't have a natural low spot in a fence line, you can make one by tieing the top two strands together and ultimately the deer will jump the fence at this low point. Of course you need to get the landowners permission and be sure that any live stock in the area that is fenced will not jump it also. Be sure that you untie the fence at the end of the season.

Re: Peep question... ALL STRINGS WILL REACT TO TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY WHEATHER THEY ARE NEW OR " SHOT IN ". STRINGS ON A HOT & HUMID AUGUST DAY WILL VARY TO THE SAME STRING ON A COOL FALL DAY WITH LITTLE OR NO HUMIDY. AS STRINGS STRETCH OR SHRINK THE PEEP WILL INEVITABLY TWIST. I THINK YOU ALL ARE MAKING TO MUCH OUT OF A COMMON PROBLEM. IF YOU KNOW YOU BOW AS I DO MINE, I CAN POSITION MY PEEP AND THE NOCKING OF THE ARROW HOLDS IT WHEATHER IT'S WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE OR NOT AND WHEN I REACH FULL DRAW IT'S RIGHT THERE. DON'T NEED A CUSTOM STRING FOR THAT. GRANTED, I HAVE LESS PROBLEMS SHOOTING WHEN ITS NOT 100 DEGREES OUT WITH 70 % HUMIDITY.
