LOL they started a elk season up in my area, great population with world class bulls ,never been hunted exept the local rancher puttign one in a freezer and never a big bull that I have heard of!! Anyways they made the season nov 1!! There is a monster game preserve the elk stay at each winter and now 95% of them are right inside of the safty, as soon as the first ML went off they were in there and no way to get them out!!Also why nov 1, would sept not be better if they want to controal the population?at least you could call them, now there is no hope, I think they knew this when they put the seaosn in effect, they only did it to satisfy the ranchers by saying we put a season can't help if noone got any@!!!, Prob be back after thinkin for a bit!!!

Ryan I guess that si what it is going to take to get things changed, soemone this fall will get charged with not taggin properly and they will win couse there is no way these tags will work!! ALl we have to do is what they say on the tag and if they fall off they fall off try to charge me, and I knwo the wardens at least here agree they know its crap, the reasoning they give is they can keep the tags from year to year at the sale departments! LOL another joke!!Spend hundred to save 5!!!

I agree 110% I personally know guys from down here that do the exact thing,but a moose tag to get the extra whitetail tag!! Its a joke and I am sure you read bigbuck mag and garry donald has said more than once!! One more thing I am against big tiem is the stopping of non resident coyote hunting!We pay guys 14 a hour and miliage to kill them and we will not let peopel coem into our province, pay 30 for 3 coyote tags and spend 500 or rooms ect?? Makes no sence to me, I have sent e-amils and the reply was that it was disturbing the rifle hunters LOL!!I replied that having it satrt so early and ending dec 31 was stupid have it start dec 15 and end feb1, this way in the prime, no disturbing deer hunters and no non residents carring rifles during a open big game season, if that is there problem! I ahve not got a responce yet btu they are gettign lots of e-mails from me! the problem is the lady in charge, can not remember her name now but according to a retired warden she is against huntign and is working to shut it all down, she is doing a good job especially up norht in the 2 buck zones and in the CCW area,we have soeme of the best genetics in the world in those sandhills and they want to kill the hole genepool off!! Maybe that si what they are after!!!!!

I have shot 2 deer so far the one mule doe the tags were ok tillI got home then fell off, my mule buck I put in the turck before tagging which is a no no but there is no way to drag a deer with the tags on, the meat seal was lost by the tiem I got home couse my hands were a bit bloody when i took it off and put it through the meat on the belly, the hide seal I found in the box of the truck and athe antler seasl stained my antlers, when I took it off after bleachign the skull htere is glue in the antlers that will not coem off!! Just a matter of time befre they get soem sence and go back to the old string type!!

Re: Yote hunting crap, I jsut wrote for 1/2 hour and when I went to post it it was lost in cyberspace!LOL, we are headign over to my parents to help move some stuff, i will post it tomorrow night ,Sorry about that!!!

Tonight I got out after work, I have abotu 40 minutes to hunt and the fog was rolling in so i went just about 3 miles from town, parked in a ditch on a dirt raod and walked in abotu 100 yards on a old 10yard wide weed filled fence row, I was hoping to call in a coyote from the south and the fence row was east west! I was not expecting anythign in the fog, drzzle ect was just gettign out of the house and away from the hectic daya t work!I cblew a coupel barks a few howls, waited for a responce, no luck I grabbed the rabbit call, let a few squalls and then a few barks and ended with a howl, I waited about 5 minutes and took my face mask off to dry my glasses which were fogging up, I put them back on and grabbed the howler and let out a long howl and then I jumped nearly 2 ft when coyote howled back from mere feet away, I looked to the east down the fence row and the coyote was standing there not 10 yards away, I had no face mask gun was on the shootign sticks to the right of me, All I could do was keep lokking at the coyote grab the gun, put it on his fur and then I coudl not get the safty off couse my gloves so I pulled my right glove off took the safty off and put the crosshairs on a patch of fur that looked like it was below the neck, he dropped in his trascks!! I have called in alot of coyotes and had soem close but thsi was the closest I ever had one call, and also I had alot of luck to get the shot off with all the problems that came up!! Nights like thsi are why I am addicted to thsi great sport!!

Re: first kills of year!! Awsome jcwa thanks to you!!! till I started here and you got me goin on the howler not sure how i ever did so good LOL!! Tonight I was at the end of a big draw, let out a couple howls and barks and then went on the rabbit squeel with the odd playfull bark making it sound like soem young pups playin with a rabbit,I see a coyote crest a hill 1/4 mile away, I use the rabbit call and he is just sittign there looking down the draw,I grab the primos howler give 3 quick barks and he heads right down the draw, at 250 yards he stops I give 2 more barks and he continues down, he is then going into another draw that fingers out so i am not sure if he will come up the bank or foolow it around to get downwind so I give out a howl, he stops and sits and stivcks his head up and gives a wierd howl, not sure what to think of it it was more like a serios of short howls btu all together, not sure how to explain it, anyways the 55 gr hollowpoint hit home,the only thing he took off like a rocket across the draw and down the opposite side abotu 200 yards across, I took 3 more shots the third in the rump[need soem practice on those runnign shots this year having a few problems] anyways he stops stands there wobbles and drops!!the first bullet caught him on a angle and took out 1 lung and the front of the opposite front shoulder, he ran at least 300 yardsbefore dropping, the other shots were not nessesary but who knows!!ALl three today had no damage with the .223 startign to really liek th4e little gun! jcwa do you remember the website were they have the different sounds of the howls of coyotes?? I had ist saved and lost it when my computer crashed, just tryign to figure out what type of howl that coyote made!Thanks!!

This am was nice and calm so i got out the .223 and went for a rip, first 2 calling places got winded once [wint got up to abotu 10mph while at first stand] the third one had a fox rip bu me and not offer a shot in the rolling hills, if I wouold of ahd a shotgun it would of been the end! Ohwell thats what its all about, next stand had 2 pups coming in from the north,I kept on barking at them and doing a bit of squeeling and then out of noware a big male was sitting on the edge of a hill about 250 yards away, I tried to coax him in but no luck so I settled the crosshairs and heard a thump and he was gone, before I could put another shell in him his feet were in the air kicking,#1 for the year, as I am walkign the 500 yards or so to the truck out I seen a coyote 3/4 mile away by a slough sitting there, the slough is only abotu 500 yards from the road so igot to the road drove up as close to the slough as possable walked in and reached the hill and knew he was close so I started to lip squeek, he started to take off the other side I grabbed the howler and let otu 3 barks, he stopped in his tracks,I cranked the scopeup to 9 powersettled the crosshairs abotu 4" above his back and let it rip he dropped and did a few kicks and was done, I walked it out and was abotu 365 yards!! What a way to start a year out!! Now the fun part the skinning begins!! bTW the hides are looking pretty good, the first one is great and the second a female is ok but a bit dark in the belly still,!

Re: sheds found while deer hunting!! I hear ya LDB!!! I have been doing the exact same thign, sort of still hunting a draw and see a nice pathc of ceder and decide to take a walk over and check it out lOL!!!once its in the blood its there for good!!!!

I used to as a kid but I do not shoot them much anymore, just don't seem to have the time, when i do go out I use the big guns,the .223 does not blow them enough I like the 7mm mag! Those little buggers can sure do the flips!!

I knwo a few guys who shoot the .17 and actually my fur buyer swears by it, he sayd he can tell when a hide coems in shot with a .17 couse absolutly no damage!!the .17 rem that is another buddy has the .17 machv and it is great to just a bit slowere I believe but the ammo is harder to find like AJ said!

A big mule will lay wwere eh can smell behind yet see in front, to hunt mules spend more time glassing than anythign else, liek thet said get out before daylight and be on a hill glassing, trust me you will see deer thta you never knew were there!! I have rattled in a few mules but have not had the luck I have with whitetial!! Good luck!!
