I do believe that right after hunting season will be way to cold for these areas! It would be nice to BBq and go shoot the bows ect when its not really cold!! 7. Today I was calling a huge pasture to the south of me and there was a stron wind from the north, there is a trail along the west side of the pasture were I parked below the hill I was setting the call on[used the electronic in the wind}I set the call on the hill about 100 yards above and east of the truck, i went about 200 yards south were I expected the yotes to come by and try to wind me so i could catch them before they caught me!After about 5 minutes nothing so I turne d around and in the crop to the east of the truck was a yote running full otu toward the truck! I had no chance seeing I was a good 300 yards from the truck and 200 from the call which was on a hill and the cotote would have to be a few yards away or no shot, so i chanced hustling through the crunchy snow to the call, I went down the vally and up the hill when I got there the yote was 30 yards east of the truck headed to the call,He headed strait norht and I barked and he stopped at 40 yards to eat a 50 gr Hp from the .223!I was shocked, i have had one last year between me and the truck but still 300 yards away or so, this guy had no interest in the truck seeing he was only a few yards away from it, it was actually a shock he came right in like that! I ended up with 3 in the truck, one more which I chest shot at dark and he ran into a slough and never came out and his front leg was broke up high,I am posative it took out one lung, I will find him tomorrw hopefully! Plus I missed a second one from my fourth stand that was about 250 angling away, I just led him a bit to much!Should of been a 5 dog day so times are looking up!

  9. Re: Big Beaver LOL Awsome!! Looks like a nice color also!! (I was checking otu the fur sale on mondya and beaver and badger were the only 2 critters that actually really went up in price, the rest went way down![racoons did ok also] congrats on a nice catch!! PS what do you use to catch them? Conibear, ? I really hear the snares work great on a run!

  11. Re: HOW TO COYOTE HUNT? 6mm right now looking for a 22-250 right now!
  12. Re: HOW TO COYOTE HUNT? Alberta you did very well then!! I to have called in coyotes with my orange but have had lots come over the hill see the color and they are off like a bullet!! With the scent, if a person works the wind perfectly and they come in from the direction you want them to there is no need, but then the other 75% that sneek downwind and smell you you will just educate!!I try to work it so they have to come in with the wind or else come into a open field before they get downwind of me, thsi way you will get a shot before they wind you, if I cannot do this I use skunk pee as a coverup! I say Camo and cover up is not a total nessesaty but will really increase your daily yotes in the truck!!Most of all will help so there are not as many educated ones out there yipping warning others the next time you call!!I had a pair wind me today I was calling a big revine and looked behind and 2 were coming in across a wheat field, they winded me at 1/4 mile and was gone instantly, with my skunk pee I prob would of had the upper hand!!
  13. Re: JimT is on the board congrats!!
  14. Re: What is this thing, gamie taste, game has??? I do not call it "gamie" I call it strong, I have shot dome mule deer that were good size bucks in the rut that are in sage country, and there is no way i could eat them without making hamburger or sausage, the same has been with some sage grown antelope, or some big old whitetails! How many will eat a bull?? That is what a rutting deer is like,I find some of them really strong, and I do everything right! Most of my late november bucks are rutting and usually 5-7 years old and they go into sausage, My early bow kills are the ones that are steaks! They have been eating green grass, wheat, oats, and berries, have not been run like theyt are in the rifle season! That is what makes all the difference in the world! How "strong" a deer is has lots to depend on, but I find its mainly the time of year, and the food! All the deer I shot so far thsi year were hung from 12 hours to 7 days and they all tast the same,[great] the only difference is the ones that were hung longer are way tenderer than the ones in the heat! All I have to say is if it is strong or not there are ways to eat it!
