  1. No sweat dosse, there's a lot of time left in the contest. Interestingly (I'm easily amused) I just checked the scoreboard and your doe would put us currently in first place.
  2. Hey team. Had a good hunt this morning. I went to the same place as yesterday, knowing there were plenty of deer around even though they were well hidden yesterday. This time I had deer within range 5 times. First time was too dark to tell what it was, second time 2 bucks came by but it was still too dark to see my pins, third was a small fawn - all were within 20 yards. Then along came this doe and I had to wait for a good shot at 34 yards. Zipped a 100 gr G5 Montec out of old faithful, my Hoyt Razortec, through her lungs and later found the arrow just beyond where she had stood. She kicked, ran about 40 yards, stopped, wobbled, and fell over. I was giving her enough time to ensure she expired before going to retrieve her and another doe came in to about 25 yards. It's nice and cool here now so she's hanging skinned in the garage and the tenderloins are in the freezer. I'm just entered her in the scoring thread. Hey dosse - we need your pictures in the scoring thread also.
  3. I thought there would be lots of deer out this morning, but activity was dismal. I saw 4 of them in the bow-only area I hunt, the nearest 200 yards away. Perhaps tomorrow will be different.
  4. Way to go, njbh27! Looks like we're cooking with gas now. Get that guy entered, if you haven't already.
  5. Way to go, dosse! Good to see someone earning their keep around here.
  6. A very important and excellent public service announcement; thank you Steve. Luckily, I have this on the side of my fridge to remind me in case I forget.
  7. OK team, looks like lots of you are about to get into action. Good luck one and all.
  8. Well for crushed fruit! I had no idea, so a very happy birthday to you, Mike. What's it like to be really, really old? Oh:poke:, never mind; I already know.
  9. Hello fellow assassins. Got back from my little trip a couple days ago. I'm afraid I didn't connect on anything good to eat, but had a great time. My son had arrowed a nice 4x4 elk at the beginning of the month and I got in at the end of early archery season and the beginning of rifle season. First adventure was rowing across a river in pitch black before dawn. We were paddling along quite nicely and BAM! Hit a big embedded stump in the middle of the river channel. Since we weren't sinking, we continued on and got to our designated beaching point. Then it was off to the particular meadow where my son had got his elk and had been watching more in the same area pending my arrival. As it turned out, first morning of the gun season was my best opportunity. We split up in the dark and accessed opposite ends of the meadow. As light gathered, he had elk within 50 yards of him, which I couldn't see. But they were grazing toward me, so he didn't pressure them at all. Danged if a couple other guys didn't come up from the river, spot the herd, and nail a nice cow. They all ran off and I never even got a glimpse. After that, we couldn't find an elk. So now I'm home and it's hot. I believe I'll be waiting for awhile before I do any whitetail hunting. Good luck to those of you with season openers just around the corner.
  10. Thanks for your kind words regarding my granddaughter's buck, folks. She is still on cloud 9. As for team name, I'm happy with whatever we end up being called - well, within reason of course:yes:
  11. Hey crew. Canuck2/Jack (yes, another one) checking in. Our season started here September 1 and I'm thrilled with the result already. I've had my granddaughter shooting a .243 all summer and she was more than eager to start hunting. Took her out the other evening and, cool as a cucumber, she shot this nice buck - her first - at 110 yards. She was so pleased and Grandpa wasn't far behind. Now, to see what I can do to live up to this fine start to the season.
  12. Steve, I am so saddened by the loss of such a fine lady. My deepest condolences to you and all your family.

    Gas Check...

Yup, good way to compare. If you use the approximation of $1.00 Cdn = $1.04 US (this fluctuates all the time) and 1 USgal = 3.785 liters, the conversion factor is 3.94. For example, $l.30 / l x 3.94 = $5.12/gal (US dollars and gallons). In town today it was $1.359/l Cdn = $5.35/gal US. Happily, there is a whistle stop just over the border here where the price is currently a mere $4.57/gal. The lineup is usually long. __________________
  14. You had another one??? This is beginning to become a bad habit. Happy retroactive birthday, Steve!
  15. I remember that, buckee - someone, Kathleen perhaps, got a good picture of that.:sleep1: Nice going, Kaeden. But the secret is out - your Grandpa has always been proud of you.
  16. Like dirt here. Well into the top category. Seniors games this year, buckee?
  17. lol - As I recollect, you were climbing around in an eagle's nest while I was excavating these. They're gypsum crystals, not uncommon but enough to divert me from antelope hunting, at least momentarily.
  18. Some very interesting 'things' here. Several of them made me stop and contemplate which single one I would most consider 'me', since I imagine we all have more than one topic that fascinates us enough to deserve a thought or two. I raised Quarter horses for many years and was consumed by that, but it's been a good 15 years since I eased out of it, so not a qualifier. Wildlife photography has always been a passion, but I don't pursue it nearly as actively now as I once used to. So, outside of hunting and archery, I'd have to give the nod to mineral collecting. Just as meteorology has a couple folks here spellbound, geology does that to me and I worked for many years in that field. Here's a few example pictures. www.angelfire.com/bc/canuck2/minerals.html BTW MCH, my sons and I had a real baseball and hockey card collecting spell about 20 years ago - great fun. I still have a bunch of Cal Ripken rookies and a few various full sets.
  19. Well done, Spanky. That's a nice looking buck. Dawg - right on - it was a good ride, wasn't it?
  20. Funny you bring up this topic - I just reintroduced this one. It was taken by a good friend of mine on a trip to Wyoming a couple years ago, wasn't it Mike?
  21. Luke, best wishes to both you and Tammy on your special day. You are both blessed, indeed.
  22. Hinkel hears a Horton????
  23. You are, indeed, one of the wise men, Mike. Merry Christmas to you.
