  1. Shivering sheepdip, hoosier - that thing's a humdinger! No wonder you couldn't sleep. Well done. I went out this morning and finally had enough of the coyotes ruining things. Popped one, which upset the whole region. But maybe I can convince the yotes to stay away and the deer to come back.
  2. Well done, ny_gun! That's a good looking buck. 'Bout time somebody on our team got 'er done.
  3. The deer hunting here is wallowing in the October doldrums. One of my two favorite areas has had the heck beat out of it with the first general open season for does in many years. The ones that are left are living under rocks during daylight hours. In my other area, the coyotes are having conventions and the deer have vacated. I think I'll have to spend a week or so sorting them out and hope the deer return for the rut.
  4. I was away for 10 days and got home on Sunday. Finally did a little hunting this morning and evening. On the morning hunt, I skulked after a group of 4 bucks with rifle in hand but decided none was big enough to take at this point. This evening I bowhunted in a different area and had a doe at 51 yards, too far for me to be shooting. I think I'll go back to the place that had the bucks in the morning and see if any new ones show up.
  5. Got back from the BC Seniors Games, where I shot like a sack of &%#$*&, got thoroughly soaked camping, and now have a whale of a cold. Gonna go crawl under a rock for a couple days.
  6. Well, it's still your birthday out here (10:28 PM), so Happy Birthday! Hope you had a good one, and it sounds like you did. Way to go on the doe.
  7. Did my last morning hunt today until after I get back from the provincial seniors games (archery) about Sept 20. I will also be away from our team thread until I return. This morning I watched 2 4-pts (one may have been a 4x5) for about an hour having numerous sparring matches. Problem is I was 375 yards away and had no hope of putting a stalk on them. But fun to watch, even through binos.
  8. Excellent, everyone's here and rarin' to go! This morning was interesting. I had 14 deer go past me, more or less in a clump, from 25 to 75 yards. The 25 was a doe and fawn but 8 of the 14 were bucks (3 spikes, 2 2-pts, 1 3-pt, 1 nice 4-pt, and a dandy 5-pt. The big ones were 50+ yards away but they got my blood circulating. Going to adjust my position slightly tomorrow.
  9. Either team Big Dreams or Rackoholics works fine for me. Like Grand Central Station where I've been hunting; the deer are all stirred up and I think I need to find a new spot for awhile. Yesterday afternoon a buddy and I were doing a little archery in my back pasture and a nice big bear was watching us from about 50 yards up the hill. I think we'll be seeing lots of them around the apple orchards this year as the wild berry crop is a huge flop.
  10. Hey gang - looks like we have a good crew here. Our archery season started today and I was hunkered in a ground blind before daylight. Didn't have any bucks come close enough but a pair of moose moseyed by me at 15 yards. Really neat. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

    Told yas...

You all prolly make very good points. BTW, I've been told not to end a sentence with a preposition, so I'm not going to. See youse later; I guess I'll go check the spline of my arrows.
  12. All the best to you on your birthday, you young whippersnapper.
  13. I qualified to shoot for my zone (there's 16 of them in BC) in the provincial Seniors Games this September. They confirmed that I have a pulse, so they quickly added me to the team. It will be fun, as usual. 3 days of shooting; a 900 round the first day, 3D on day 2, and a 450 at 80 cm target on the final day.
  14. Thanks, you guys. I was hoping I'd be able to slip by under the radar, but no such luck.:bummed: It was a fine day.
  15. That's a sonofagun Jeramie. I hope she shows up soon for you. I know how attached you become to them. I, too, have a 13 year old mini schnauzer, as well as an 11 year old. Great little dogs.

    MPG's

I haven't checked mileages in ages, and this tread inspired me. My truck is a 1997 Ford F250 Diesel extended cab 4x4. This past week, I made roughly a 700 mile trip to the coast and back. On the way home (empty - I hauled a freezer and near a cord of firewood down), I figured I did pretty good as I got 23.5 mpg. Then I realized I probably can't play in this thread unless I use American instead of Imperial gallons.:hammer1: So that translates into 19.6. In the winter we also use a RAV4 that gets around 30 and in summer a Mazda Miata, which does over 40 with no problem, unless my wife is driving.
  17. Rats, according to my computer, I'm 1 minute late wishing you a happy birthday. Hope it was a good one, Diana.:happybday:
  18. Wow! When I heard that you had broke down, I was really distressed for you - but no need. If you have to have troubles along the way, it's sure nice to find folks who help so much in a time of need. They sound like wonderful people and its good to find out that things worked out well for you.

    Ladies and Gentlemen

Excellent! Couldn't have been won by a nicer whitetail fanatic. Can hardly wait to get in on the excitement of your hunt, Mike.
  20. Another supportive wife in this house; mine supports all my hunting activities and is always eager to cut up a deer on the dining room table. She has hunted occasionally and killed several deer, but it's not a passion with her. We would both far rather eat deer and moose than beef, even though we raised cattle on our farm for 20 years. All I know is that it's a lot easier to have a good relationship if you have common interests.
  21. In addition to the friends I've had voting up until now, I just finished pulling about 30 others out of my email address book. I sent a mass mail-out to them, imploring them to vote every day for the next week. If everyone on here does the same, it could result in a huge surge of votes. Let's git 'er done.
  22. Week 2 is finished and Mike is now in the final four. New poll has started - hit it hard with them votes.
