    Is anybody going

Hey to the other non-olympic attendees. I've been conscientiously boycotting the whole fiasco since I believe it affects way too many local citizens adversely; for example, vast sums of money used for the 15 day party for rich folks could have been useful for health care, education, and so on. Besides, it has been easy to avoid it since I've been here in California since mid January. On the negative side, I sure picked the wrong winter to get away from the snow and cold.
  2. Shaun, if I were in your situation, I'd sure go for it. Them northern pike you speak of - the mosquitoes swoop down and grab them right out of the water. I don't know how cold you've been in, but 40 below is plenty chilly enough; tried that one winter up north. I had a cousin who was RCMP in Baker Lake (also on your map) for a number of years and he & family loved it. His son, who is also young and single, just finished a 3-year stint up there (I forget which settlement) and has now moved back down here. He has some fabulous photographs of northern lights. Besides the fishing, good hunting is also likely, especially for caribou. As for transmissions, I bet you'd have some good cold-weather malfunction challenges. Carpe diem!
  3. Now THAT is a fine chess piece.
  4. Tony, you'll have a blast. The rut should be on and the bugling will make you weak in the knees - but I imagine you planned it that way. I have relatives in a small town not far north of Big Timber and they hunt the Crazys with great success. Pictures, we want lots of pictures.
  5. Well gang, I think we did darn well. All 6 team members who showed up here regularly got deer, and that's pretty impressive. Even more impressive is the one team, #10, whose members all got deer for a 100% success rate. I did a quick count and - based on the deer entered so far - there's about a 53% connect rate for all the hunters entered. That, in itself, is very good. Congrats to all you guys. It has been a slice and I hope I hook up with some of you again (the ones who got the biggest bucks ).
  6. My eldest son jumped into archery with both feet in 2008; this past season he got his first archery deer in the evening of opening day, Sept 1. It's a real even velvet whitetail with 5 points per side. I told him he was a ditz for holding his bow upside down in the picture. Nice velvet on yours, too, Leo.
  7. I got a lump of coal. But it was a nice, big lump.
  8. Boy, you don't let any grass grow under your tires, do you? When my wife and I came home form Utah in 2 days last May - at about 600 miles per day - I thought I was really hard done by. You've got stamina, man. Glad you and Rilda had a good trip; your new rig sounds awesome. Very cool to hear that everything has fallen into place regarding the new house. Have a fine time with your family while they are there - I know you will.
  9. May visions of these dance in your head for the next 10 months or so.
  10. Steve and Diana, a most excellent Christmas to you.
  11. That's right, KentuckyTurkey - duct tape, eh.
  12. A most happy birthday to you, doog.
  13. No, Tony, I think you got a real deal. BTW, I have this bridge for sale - you interested?
  14. And from TBow I received a very nice whitetail calendar, each month featuring a different painting of whitetail bucks by an artist who really knows his stuff. In addition, a roll of the handy man's secret weapon.:clap:Thanks heaps, TBow.
  15. Well team, our season is done here as of yesterday - unless I travel big time miles, and I don't think that's in the cards. All I got this year was the one buck, so I've got most of the next year to sulk now.:bummed: I also heard from JimT and he was shut out this season. Dang. Best of luck to all who are still hunting; our team has made a very good showing.
  16. Thanks for the ideas, Bill. I think I will leave a flashlight c/w batteries outside overnight and see what transpires.
  17. Excellent, Anthony - things seem to be going good for you in various directions. That doe should count for us now and I see we are still in good shape overall. Anybody have any idea where Huntaholic1 and JimT are these days? I chickened out of this morning's planned hunt when I saw the temperature was 4 degrees below zero. Stayed in the nice warm bed.
  18. Anybody have experience with D-size batteries in cameras in the cold? I have a trail cam that takes 3 D-size batteries and it's currently out in -4F/-20C weather. I'm wondering whether I should go check it and/or replace the batteries, or just give up altogether.

    Tigers a cheat!

Does this mean she'll be getting a fat contract to promote Nike now?
  20. Anthony, way to go! You certainly were determined. I'll add your deer to the team trophy wall as soon as I see the picture posted.
  21. slaw, congratulations on that honker of a buck. Dandy brow tines on him. How many points in all - 9? Make sure you give that info in the entry thread. I've added your mug shot to our trophy wall. www.angelfire.com/bc/canuck2/realtree.html
  22. Boy, am I asleep at the switch. Dan's buck had me so mesmerized, I forgot all about adding him to our 'team wall'. But he's on there now, and here's a link to our deer so far: www.angelfire.com/bc/canuck2/realtree.html Nice going, guys.
  23. I returned from my blacktail hunt without any venison. The weather conditions were horrendous and really put a damper on hunting for the most part. Had a good time, nonetheless. Started?? Ya Dan, I'd say it has. In fact, that's almost a good entire career for many hunters. That's a darn nice buck in anyone's book, and it looks like that point may even be an inch or more, no? Well done. It appears that, after the most recent update, we are still in second place. That's a darn good position to be in at this point; keep them coming, team.
  24. Diana, we were on Galiano. Yup, the whole gulf islands area is gorgeous.
  25. Having spent the last several days in the same storms as buckee and doe-ee have been experiencing, I can confirm that every living thing on the west coast of BC has webbed feet. I did a little blacktail hunting on a small island (about 20 miles long), and haven't been so wet in years. In fact, much of the time I had expected to hunt was, instead, used for reading a couple Louis L'Amour novels in front of a roaring fireplace. I saw a few does and fawns, but the lone buck I spied was lurking on some private ground where I couldn't hunt. This is him, and a pretty good size for a Columbia Blacktail. Oh well, I guess I get to try again at some time in the future, like maybe next year.
