well this saturday and sunday was the tenn. youth hunt weekend...the children were allowed 1 buck and 2 does... my grandson (c.j.) and i were up early saturday morning and watched as the woods came alive....as we walked into our hunting spot we could hear deer snorting and running off thru the woods....we never saw a deer tho saturday morning..... we had a friend that wanted us to come to his farm about 70 miles away saturday evening and so we went tto hunt there...the man has astrict management program set up on his 300 some acreas...but he did tell my C.j. if he saw any buck that was 8 point or better to take him....well we got on the stand along a food plot about 3 :00 and at 4:00 a deer steped out into the edge of it and started feeding... my grandson motioned that a deer was there and it was a buck....we took the bino's and counted the point's and yes it was an 8 point...a young deer but a solid 8 point... i told my grandson it was leagle game so take him...he shouldered his muzzel loader cocked the hammer and boommmmmmmmm!!!!!!...no smoke so we watched as the buck hunkered down and took off in a dead run...only going 30 yards and collasping to the ground...yes he made a perfect 60 yard shot taking his first anterled buck...he and i got so excited we didn't even try to wait for a chance for a doe....well mr. larry came to pick us up at dark and he got just as excited as we were.... well we finially got home last evening at around 10:pm and wore out from the days hunt...well this morning when the alarm went off we slowly crawled out of bed but we got to the woods with plenty of time before daylight ....but this morning we decieded no to try to get in to the stand until it was some light in the woods...well it payed off... deer were everwhere feeding on the ridges and c.j. finially got a shot at a big doe at about 125 yards...he shot and the deer back kiced and took off as did many more....we walked over to where the doe was standing and only found hair ...white hair short white hair...after investigating the scene we decieded he had shot low and barly took the top layer of hide with hair off her low chest....we did see 7 more does but never got a chance at a clear shot...(were hunting cutover timber ground)...we came in at 10:00 and got to church at 11:00... got home from church at 12:30 ate a bite and went headed back to the woods at 2:30...we got to or stand site(tree top) at 3 :20 and at 3:35 i thought i saw movement out about 150 yards out on another ridge...i watched closely and sure enough it was ....a doe was moving out of the beding area down the ridge... i told c.j. where she was and he finally say her...shouldered his mz loader and at aroune 90- 100 yards out he dropped her in her tracks....she was a yearling fawn weighing at around 60-70 pounds....after that we sat waiting for another chance at a doe when c.j. looked at me and said im ready to go pawpaw...i ask why and he told me i know i can still harvest another doe today but we have fresh meat now and i have to learn not to take more than we need.... i was so proud of him thinking the way he did...and i was there to watch and share with him his harvest....a nice 8 point and a nice young doe... i did get field pic's of them and will share them with you all as soon as i get them downloaded which will be tomarrow....thanks for letting me share our hunt with you ...
