Re: Wanted - Ground Blind [ QUOTE ] How Much we talking??? I think a DB might be toooooooo rich for my cheap azz! [/ QUOTE ] I've got a buddy here that is thinking about buying it for $325. I told him he has until mid next week to decide. If not, I'll let you have it for $325 shipped to your door. It is practically new. Never even sent an arrow through the screens. Only shot through the openings w/ no screens.

Re: Wanted - Ground Blind I might be willing to part with my Double Bull BS-5. I am buying the new Double Bull Matrix and have not decided what to do with the BS-5. Interested?

Re: I\'m going to Cabelas!!! I was there last Saturday. I've been there probably 30+ times since it opened. What do you want to know? It's like 250,000 sq.ft. of hunting/fishing/camping bliss. It has the giant mountain in the middle with about every North American species represented. They have an awesome whitetail display when you walk in. They have an Affrican display and an exotic display. Then wall to wall shoulder mounts of every conceivable animal. I only have two complaints about the place. 1) crowds. I used to go during the week when I'd be on sales calls up that way, so I got spoiled. I hate going on weekends. It will be nuts when you are there. 2) They never have what I want. I seem to always want the couple items out of their catalogs that the store does not sell. Torques me off every time. My advice. They open at 8:00 am, be there then. By noon it will be shoulder to shoulder in people.

Re: My favorite duck/geese hunting gear is my......... That is tough. Either my Browning BPS or my Final Approach Elimator blind. Oh heck, I could go on and on. I love virtually all my gear! How are you supposed to pick just one?!?!? -
Re: Wild Game/Hunting trivia - HELP Docdog - you want to handle the party? Awesome guys, keep um commin'
-
I've been put in charge of coming up with a very informal trivia contest at a wild game cook out party the weekend after this coming one. The group will consist of about 50% hunters and the rest who know little to nothing, but ar there to eat some wild game and have a good time. So, I need help. I thought what a better resource that the creative minds on this B.B. to help me devise some questions. I got one out of the turkey forum just now ... the snood - the thing that hangs down over a turkey's beak. The questions all don't have to be super hard. Some hard ones would be great to stump some of the die hard hunters in the group. I want questions that everyone can laugh at each other about. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Just post Q & A trivia in here. Thanks all!

Re: Copper John..... Spike TV does not carry hunting shows anymore. Their claim was that "real men don't hunt anymore". The Men's Channel is offered on The Dish Network, I don't know if Direct TV carries it. The Men's Channel started off carrying a lot of low budget hunting shows that were pretty bad. It still has several of those, but the quality in general is going up. Copper John and Double Bull are among the bigger companies that are now on that channel. Between the Men's Channel and the Outdoor Network, hunting is on nearly 24/7 around my house. As for the C.J. show, I missed it. Have to catch that one.

Re: vanes or feathers? I gotta agree with J.B. on this one. Feathers out last vanes any day. The worse the feathers look, the better they fly. That is because the inconsistancies in the surface create small eddies of air across the surface, creating a very low friction surface for the surrounding air to pass over the feather. Similar to dimples on a golf ball. Take a smooth golf ball and even Tiger Woods could not put any distance on it or even hit it straight. Put crazy dimples everywhere and he can hit it 300+ yards and straight as an arrow. Vanes are heavier, slower off the string, get wavy, and tear. Once they tear, it is over. The only downfall to feathers in my opinion is rain. And they can be a little louder than vanes. I keep a few arrows fletched with vanes just for rainy days, but beyond that, I shoot feathers exclusively.

mossy oak or realtree? i am a mossy oak
Bow Hunter Derek replied to wtnhunt's topic in Hunting Equipment
Re: mossy oak or realtree? i am a mossy oak Natural Gear Actually, I own a little of everything. MO, MO Forest Floor, Advantage Timber, Advantage Wetlands, Max-4, Realtree HD, and of course Natural Gear. I generally place a higher regard for the function of the garment rather than the camo it comes in. For some reason, the bulk of the garments that I buy for function are offered in either MO or Advantage Timber. I actually only own one RT garment, a shirt. I've got several things in Natural Gear as they seem to have expanded their market in the last couple years. That pattern just works amazing in Indiana during deer seasons. If I'm not wearing Natural Gear, then generally, it will be Advantage Timber. -
What do you like to see in a hunting video?
Bow Hunter Derek replied to ParsonsOutdoors's topic in Lounge
Re: What do you like to see in a hunting video? I'll tell you what I can not stand any more in hunting videos ... fake cut aways, fake stalking re-enactments, fake recovery re-enactments. Nothing torques me off more than to watch the deer come in, then the camera suddenly flips to the hunter drawing the bow, then flips back to the deer being shot. Granted I'm not out there when it happens, but I'd bet my next paycheck that 90% of the time when they show the draw of the bow, it is an after the fact staged sceen. I hate the fake stalking sceens. How can you stalk on an anmial when the camera man has gotten 20 yards out in front of you to get the stalk on tape? FAKE! I absolutely hate it when the camera is already at the downed deer and the hunter walks up all excited, like they've never seen the deer before. FAKE! I know that I'll upset a few here by saying this, but RT Monster Bucks has been one of the worst at this fake re-enactment stuff, especially with the drawing of the bow sequences. Some of their older stuff had some very fake stalks and recoveries as well. What I want in a video is back at camp and set up stuff, similar to how Road Trips does it. The only time I want to see the bow drawn is when the hunter just happens to be between the camera and the deer. I want the camera to follow the shot deer until it has either ran out of sight or goes down. I want to see genuine enthusiasm and respect for the animal. (I hate it when the hunter gets to the deer and says with no emotion, "Folks we just took a good solid Texas whitetail") I want to see actual recoveries, including tracking (not every step, but some real tracking - good and bad aspects). Most of all, no fancy edits and cut aways. Show the hunt, cut out the Hollywood crap. Primos is as close to this as I've seen in a professional video, but they still have work to do. -
Re: This room has come along \"THANKS\" ! Nothing quite like stomping around in swamps and stubble fields to shoot some ducks and honkers. I've also noticed the increased activity here. Pretty cool.

Re: Whisker Biscuit Best HUNTING rest out there, in my opinion. I shoot A LOT. Hunting, practice, techno leages, etc. I use the WB for everything. I go through a buscuit per year. Carbon arrows woller out the hole when you shoot as much as I do, but it is the price to pay for such a great rest. I don't think the new buscuit is that bad on fletchings. I shoot primarily feathers and I still say that feathers last longer than vanes through a WB. My love affair with my WB is going on 3 years and I can't be happier. I'm looking forward to seeing what WB has new in 2005.

Michael Waddell's Compression sleeve??
Bow Hunter Derek replied to RyanH's topic in Hunting Equipment
Re: Michael Waddell\'s Compression sleeve?? IT'S A SOCK! I just don't get it. I've got tons of old socks. I'll cut the toe off, write "Whitetail Stud Hunter" on them and sell them to you for half of what the Michael Waddell Realtree sock will run you. Win, win situation. Amazing. -
Re: Cabelas Coupon That does it, I'm using them today. Can't run the risk of Dundee not having what I want (which is usually the case).

how the heck did u train ur duck dogg?
Bow Hunter Derek replied to struttinhoyt's topic in Waterfowling
Re: how the heck did u train ur duck dogg? Start them young. Get the Water Dog DVD. I got it based on the recommendations of the guys here. It is great. I'm in the middle of it with my 14 week old yellow lab. It is a ton of work. But I'm seeing progress. My problem now is with the nasty snow and ice up here, getting her outside to work with her is not a lot of fun (mostly for me). So most of the training is short fetching drills in the house. -
Re: Cabelas Coupon [ QUOTE ] Nope!! Just used 3 on an order for 149.99, knocked off 90.00!!!! [/ QUOTE ] No way ... really?!?!? If that is the case, I'll be ordering a pair of boots today.

Re: Cabelas Coupon Figures. That's alright. I'm going up to Dundee this weekend. It is a Member weekend, so I'll get $30 for showing up, plus $40 a pop for signing up a couple guests. Then I'll use one of my $30 off coupons, and cash in about $100 in points. Heck that's like $240 bucks of free stuff. Not a bad deal. I'd still have a $30 off coupon to use later.
-
Re: Cabelas Coupon I've got a couple of them I plan on using. Does anyone know, can you use two of them on one order. What I mean is if I order over $200 in one order, can I get $60 off?
-
Re: Kent Fasteel? I've used it in our early goose season for the past couple seasons. I shoot 3.5" BB's and it dumps geese good. In late season, I switch over to Heavy Shot for maximum knock down on larger birds w/ thicker breast feathers.
-
Re: Im sold on 3 1/2 inch shotgun shells You want to see deadly. 3 1/2" Heavy Shot #2's. Drop geese like a ton of bricks. Amazing. Just ask that big Canada goose I dropped in Ohio last weekend. He never moved after he hit the ground.
