  4. Again on the safety aspect... When cutting graphite shafts, wear a dust mask. Breathing in graphite is not good... Bob
  5. "Bessie...you really are a 'motor mouth' !!"
  6. I shoot the same rifle in .308...and it shoots better than 1" at 100 yards. I had the bedding re-done, and the barrell floated...both helped...but I think the biggest factor was having the trigger pull re-set (I think it's around 3 pounds now). Out-of-the-box, I've found they're very heavy pull...and one of their features is how easy they are to adjust...so it won't take a gunsmith long to do it up for you. Also, as has been said, be sure to check the scope, mounts and rings that they are tight, not just snug. Be sure to let it cool between shots...the light barrell doesn't handle too many rounds before it'll start to string them. My gun also has a strong preference to the Ammo it shoots, so be sure to try different loads, bullet weights and styles from a couple of Manufacturers, if you're shooting factory. (Surprisingly, my Winchester rifle doesn't like Winchester ammo !!) Bob
  7. WOW !!...I haven't been around in a while...Sorry to hear about this Lewis!:bummed: Feel free to give them my phone #, and such...If they need any help or directions or somethin' brought by...have them give me a call. Bob:(

  9. Newfoundland speed bump !! Unfortunately, this past weekend, a young couple was killed just outside of Shediac, NB, on Highway 11, when they hit a moose. Their 2 year old son was in the backseat, and was relatively unhurt...but orphaned in an instant.:bummed: Bob
  10. Black shaft with 2 white and a red cock vane. I don't wrap right now...but I've been considering making wraps with silver / white, maybe even red, reflective tape...I've tried the silver on a broken shaft and it looks pretty decent and adheres to the shaft well. I figure if I lose an arrow or am tracking after dark, it should show up pretty easily in a flashlight beam. What do y'all think? Bob:confused:

  12. Wow!!...you've almost finished your homework !! Ummm...Is that STANDARD or ACTUAL cubic feet ??:shifty: Natural gas is compressible...so you can vary the BTU value by pressurizing the 'cubic foot'.. which allows you to get more gas in the specific volume. (I'm an Instrument tech by trade...and work as a Senior Designer, Instrumentation, for an oil refinery...and it just so happens that flow metering is one of my specialties) ...and...yup...I do know the answer;) Bob:)
  13. Tell me about it !!! Stoffer is my MP...:argue: He and I were exchanging emails and voice messages over this !!:argue: He has sold his soul and his electoral future...IMHO Bob:nono:

  17. oooorrrrrr... The bear is probably pushing close to 500 pounds, dressed weight... The buck will be close to 275 pounds dressed, or even a bit better... Which one would you want to loose an arrow on. (Both are within a half-mile of the camp) Bob:shifty:
  18. Here ya go redneck...much more realistic... http://www.tac15.com/tac15i.html The video claims single hole accuracy at 50 yards. When it was first introduced, Pete Shepley claimed 1" groups at 150 yards. Yup...relatively "untapped"... Bob
  19. Here are a couple of my thoughts / considerations / reservations around the crossbow... It drives me nuts when people say that the crossbow is no different than a compound bow. That is an over-simplification...and it is not true. I hate when people try to 'justify' a crossbow as archery tackle, simply because it shoots a projectile that resembles an arrow, and looks like a 'bow' lain on its side. It is NOT a bow...it is a CROSSbow...Accept it for what it is...understand it for what it is not. When shooting either a compound or trad bow, the archer is integral to the accurate delivery of the arrow. Their form is part of the mechanism that sends the arrow, accurately, down range. That is not the case with the crossbow. Sitting the bolt on the rail removes the mechanics necessary of the archer. The archer himself will always be the most limiting factor in the effective, accurate range of shooting a bow. On the other hand, the most limiting factor of the crossbow is the mechanism...the device itself. Its lack of widespread acceptance hasn't seen much progression in its design. The basic platform, however, has MUCH room for advancement, and you only have to look as far as the TAC15 to realize that the potential is there to remove the crossbow's qualification as a limited range weapon. I have no qualms, whatsoever, in the use of the crossbow for hunting...but it is not archery tackle. It is a crossbow. Give it its own season. Maybe even overlap or run it concurrent with existing archery seasons...but keep it licensed separate from archery. It's potential for 'improvement' is relatively untapped, and design and mechanical enhancement will see it move from a trully limited range weapon. As consideration... Remember when the muzzleloader became recognized / validated as a hunting gun? States and provinces accepted them as 'limited range' guns and granted them special seasons. After all, back then, shooting 150 yards with one was a feat. Nowadays, there are in-line muzzleloaders shooting 250 and beyond...essentially equating the performance of centerfire rifles...and that was never the intent of their special season. The same will be true of the crossbow...the limitation is the device, not the archer. Just my 2 cents with a nickle's change... Bob
  20. Ooopppsss... A day late, and a dollar short... Happy Birthday Leo!:happybday: (Your card is in the mail...:shifty:...) Bob
  21. There was a time when hunting was about heritage...and tradition...and fathers and sons sharing the out-of-doors... Now it is about business...BIG business...and 'keeping up with the Joneses'... "Only big bucks are acceptable...and you'll only shoot 'em if you spend big bucks on our products..." That mentality will be the ruination of hunting...it is pushing people out, and discouraging new hunters from taking it up. The 'industry' claims to be our friend...but in reality, they may be our worst enemy...:jaw: Bob
  22. Mah name is Jethro...an' ahm a Brain Surgeon... (WHAT?!?...no reaction Mr. Judge???) Mah name is Jethro...an' ahm a Judge on the Supreme Court... ("Guilty as cha'ged" !!!) Bob:hammer1:
  23. For a righthanded shooter, typically, an arrow hitting nock-end left is acting too weak in the spine...for a lefty, nock-end left is too stiff. I have close to the same set-up as you and shoot 400's with 100 gr. points. The 340's shouldn't be too weak, so I'm perplexed...unless you've got fletch contact on the cables or rest. You can try a heavier point, or up your bow's poundage...if the problem goes away, you'll know it is too stiff...or if the problem goes away by dropping the poundage / lighter point will mean too light in the spine. Those are the two easiest things to try...first. Then you'll want to look at your rest position, and bow tuning. Bob
  24. Just so we all know just what the actual charges were... Apparently, they 'bargained' away the shooting of the illegal deer, and only went after the baiting and improper tagging. (Now you know why he plead no contest;)) Bob
