  7. If I was you...I'd tag a shag bag and tee a few up right there on the edge of the fairway......and then in your 'later' years you could tell the younger golfer's... "Yup...when I was your age...I could hit a drive clear across this lake !!"... and be telling the truth !! :D Bob
  8. I did see what was written...and the first thought to cross my mind was "Uh oh !" "NOT a good idea !" Don't consider it 'censorship'...consider it 'friendship'. One friend looking out for another. Just my 2 cents...with a nickle's change... Bob
  9. One week ago today, at 8:48 am AT, a helicopter ferrying 16 workers to the offshore oil platforms at Hibernia, and White Rose, crashed into the Atlantic. The crew of 2, and 15 of the passengers were killed:(...there was one survivor. The survivor, and one of the deceased, were lifted from the ocean on the day of the crash. All of the others went to the ocean floor with the helicopter. This past weekend, the recovery effort was able to return all of the deceased to their loved ones. One of the people on that flight was Mr. Ken MacRae...a fellow hunter living in Greenwood, NS. He was a member of another forum I frequent with the handle 'kmac'... Our Realtree forums also have a member listed under this name, although not a frequent poster... (I don't know that these gentlemen are one-in-the-same) Another person on that flight was Mr. John Pelley of Newfoundland...also an avid hunter. Apparently, last year, John was able to harvest his first whitetail on an exchange hunt with another member of that forum...his prowess was hunting Newfoundland moose. Rest in Peace, gentlemen. Bob:( Just to clarify my above comments, I wanted to note that the victim pulled from the Atlantic last Thursday was actually a young lady. Rest in Peace Ms. Maher.
  10. Have you tried to treat the gas for water?...I had a Ford that acted this way and it was a bad batch of gas...would run for awhile, and you could even drive it...but then it'd start to 'struggle' and die. Let 'er sit for 10 or 15 minutes, and away she'd go. Where your truck has been sitting for a bit, there may be some condensation that has built up in the tank. Get some gas-line anti-freeze (or I think there is a specific treatment you can buy for water)...dump 'er in the tank and see if it helps. If it works, you should probably replace the first in-line filter, again. Bob
  11. I assume this is the kind of stuff you're talking about tomspiro008... http://www.liquidfence.com/duck-turkey-goose-repellent.html Check out their site... Most of us around here try to 'bring 'em in'...not repell them away...:D Bob;)

  14. We've got terrible conditions for the deer out east here, buckee... Lots of deep snow that got crusted over, and then more snow on top of that that crusted over too. The coyotes are running on top of it all and the deer are either busting through or slippin'and slidin'. The snowmobilers are finding lots of dead deer, and I know of 3 live ones that the yotes didn't finish eating or even kill before they started. They had to be shot to be put out of their misery. It's a shame...our herd was rebounding nicely, but I think this could set us back a few years. Bob:(
  15. Yer gonna have a hard time findin' a piggy small enough to wrap that sucker in bacon !! Bob
  16. Did anybody get to see Rush Limbaugh's address to the Nation yesterday on CPAC ? I found myself agreeing with so-o-o-o much that he said with respect to liberalism versus conservatism. One point he made that really stuck with me (and it is applicable to ALL politicians) was that they are stewards of the Constitution (no matter whose constitution it is)...it is their job to uphold it and NOT to re-write it in their own image. That is so true ! Oh...and...apparently he is not a big fan of your new President ! :D Bob

    Bagpipe lessons

I have played the pipes now for over 40 years. My grandfather was Alex Sutherland, Pipe Major of the Blackwatch band here in Nova Scotia. He and my uncle started the Dartmouth Boys Pipe and Drum Band...that is why they wear the Sutherland tarten. One of the provincial gatherings of pipers is the Piper's Picnic in Earltown: http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Heritage/FSCNS/Scots_NS/Events/Pipers_Picnic/Pipers_Picnic.html Bernie is my older brother...one of the most gifted, natural pipers I have ever heard...he was offered a commission in the Army to play in the Blackwatch, when he graduated high school but turned it down. The area I used to hunt on the west side of Cape Breton is predominantly Scottish...and they know me down there for 2 reasons... 1) They call me 'The Bowhunter' when fall arrives, because I was the first to hunt that way with a bow... 2) In the early summer, they knew me as 'one of the pipers'...because they all waited for my brother and I to arrive... We could call a Scotsman in from better'n 5 miles, on a clear, still evening !!! Definately an outdoor instrument, though! I can remeber my son warning his sister..."Run, Natalie !!...RUN...He's gonna blow !!!" :D (Same dry wit as my grandfather...little bugger...:D) Oh...I should mention that the 'Picnic' is held on property that holds some of the biggest deer this province has...It'd make most hunters drool. They had a hard time keeping me focused on the pipes 'cause I was always off tracking...Awesome spot !! Bob
  18. IMO...if it is allowable within the gamelaws of your state / province, chances are most, if not all, of the scenarios have been considered. So, if the law says it is OK...then it is OK...BUT...you then have to deal with your personal ethics. Your example of shooting a biggame animal and taking the antlers and letting the rest of it lay...I may be wrong, but I think that most jurisdictions require that you make legitimate effort to recover the animal in its entirety...so in effect, it is against the law. ...and if you're going to harvest deer with a .350 Chevy...you wanna be sure those antlers are going to sell for more than the cost to repair (not likely)...or be driving your buddy's truck! Bob
  19. President Barack Obama has determined that he will impose a new 40 % tax on aspirin... When questionned as to why, he replied... "Well...it's white and it works !!" Bob :D
